Just a disclaimer, this is owned by an «uncle» but I will try my best to review purely by taste and not nepotism. Phở is my least favorite Viet food, but I crave the phở here when I visit Vancouver. I’ve witnessed the love that they put in making the broth each morning. Their phở beats any bowl in Houston I’ve eaten. The banh mi Special(Dac Biet) and Meatballs(Xiu Mai) are thebombdotcom. The homemade mayo is so comforting… nostalgic of when I was a fat Asian kid asking for extra mayo and pâté on my banh mi each weekend in Houston. I start my mornings here when visiting Vancouver.

When I need a quiet place to eat phở where I won’t bump into anyone. Now that I’ve said it, I’ll probably jinx it so I apologize in advance if I see you next time in PJ’s, unbrushed hair and socks that don’t match. I used to eat here once a month because they open super early.(9:00AM on weekdays and 8:00AM on weekends) A steaming hot bowl of phở is the perfect hangover food and #6 is my usual. It’s the rare beef, tendon and well done beef flank phở noodle soup. The noodles are perfectly cooked with their tasty broth.

So I was craving some Bahn Mi Yesterday and figured I would stop by my go to spot down the street. When I go to place my order I’m informed all their bread is sold out. Sad, but also excited that I now get a chance to try Thy. I make the short drive over to Victory and found parking right in front. At 2:45pm there were only a couple of people in the restaurant, I placed my order for their«Mixed Meat»… $ 3 and 5 min later I have my fix and I’m heading home. Just as good or better then Au Petit! I’ll have to make another trip this week to sample their Phở and Coffee! Heads up! It’s not pretty, but most great places aren’t and they do have a dine in fee… So a sandwich are $ 3.00 if you order to go or $ 3.50 if you decide to eat in.

If this is the one w/a green awning, hmm… Used to go there a lot. Try their House special Viet Sub, it’s pretty good. that’s all i order. the phở bowl noodles are a bit on the small side.

OK. so there is this long ongoing debate as to which place has the best bahn mi(vietnamese subs). I have to admit that this was the first place that I enjoyed a bahn mi in Vancouver. but I thought I would do a Bahn mi taste test with my family. the first week, we tried Le Petite Café on Main, the special with the meat ball was ok, not as great as everyone said, I missed the pâté which is usually the best part. so I would give that place a 5⁄10. The next week we tried Tung Hing on Kingsway. I liked the idea of watching them make it in front of me, but there were so many people there, it felt like I was at some bahn mi factory. I would rate the Bahn mi there about 6⁄10. All in all, my family and I all agree that Thy makes the best banh mi, especially if you like it with the pâté. It’s nice and warm and complimented by their pickled veggies. all for under $ 4.00. Anyways, we decided that we would stick with Thy because their Bahn mi is the best. You can order in advance of picking up. We have always ordered the Special Banh mi for take out. I haven’t tried anything else at this restaurant.

Behold! Another hidden gem in this beautiful city of ours. Thy offers phở lovers one of the best bowls of Vietnamese beef noodle soups in town. I’ve been here on numerous occasions and the food is always freshly prepared, the well-seasoned broth arrives steaming hot and the meat proportions are generous. Unlike other phở places where the noodles leave your mouth with an almost powdery aftertaste, the rice noodles at Thy are textured perfectly and hasn’t been sitting in your bowl beforehand. Not a fan of phở? Worry not. Thy also offers the best Vietnamese subs in town — hands down. The subs are perfectly toasted(never burnt), perfectly seasoned and accompanied by generous proportions of meat and marinated vegetable. What makes Thy’s deli masterpiece so desirable? When served to you, the butter is melted so it works as a sauce which binds all flavours of the sub together providing you with the best Vietnamese sub experience imaginable. Like many phở restaurants, cleanliness is not their A-game. Thy is an older restaurant and upon entering, you might feel a little dejected, but the food makes up for it. Parking is available along Victoria or the side streets. Thy is, as stated, a hidden gem. Whenever I make a trip out to eat here, I always get a large bowl of phở and a sub. If I don’t, I know I’ll regret it and crave afterwards. Don’t make that mistake!
