The tomato cheese ramen is very good and a strong broth that really brings out the fusion of Italian and Japanese. A little pricey without much toppings but well worth the price. I would recommend getting an egg with it but nothing else as the rest are not worth it. I would recommend you to try but expect to wait as seating is limited and the neighborhood can be rough at times

I love this place! It’s quite small and you’ll usually have to wait a little while unless you come during off peak hours. The food is always good and I always find myself craving this when I think of ramen. I get their tonkatsu ramen most of the time and it’s always really good. I like their noodles and their egg is on point. I just wish they gave a whole egg rather than half and more nori — the nori tastes sooooooo good when soaked in the ramen broth. My other favourite is their tsukemen, which, if you haven’t tried, you must! It’s their signature and I guess what put them on the map and it’s every bit as delicious as you think.

What’s with all hype? Had the tsukemen, not too pleased. The noodles were ok(same noodle as the ramen?) I’m used to the thick stuff you get in Japan. The broth was the worst part(original), tasted kinda eggy which lacked flavor. The pork belly was decent. The service was great tho! I hate giving low stars but hot dang! Is this really the best tsukemen in Vancouver?

Oh.My.Gosh. So freaking good. The ramen slut is speechless. Sorry Benkei you may have to step aside as my favorite ramen joint. I came at 1:40pm on a Monday and I still had to wait in a line up so I was glad when it didn’t disappoint. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen and added bean sprouts to it for $ 1. The broth was on point 5⁄5. The noodles were great. I like how bamboo shoots and a half an egg were standard fillings. The price($ 9.25+ $ 1 for my add on) was very reasonable. I’ll definitely be back. My only complaint was I burnt my tongue on the hot soup because it was so tasty I ate it before it could cool down. The only thing you should be aware of is that this place is NOISY. Like I mean, NOISY. There’s loud rap music playing and every time someone comes or goes the servers and the cookers scream thank you or hello. I could barely hear myself think. Once the food came I blocked it out though and the rest was fine. Might not want to come to this place yo catch up with a friend if you are planning on conversating.

This ramen place is the one to go to be it summer time or winter time. For the warm months you can get the Tsukemen with cold noodles. It’s the type where you receive a concentrated broth where you dip your noodles. For the colder months you can still enjoy Tsukemen with warm noodles. I personally liked my noodles cooking in the hot broth while I savour it so I ordered the tomato and cheese with pork substitute. It comes with tofu but I don’t feel like tofu that day. It was so tasty. I also added a soft boiled egg which was cooked to perfection. It was so creamy yummy. The service and staff are awesome. They greet you as soon as you stepped in. The place smells good and is very clean. The wooden floor is not slipper or sticky. I would definitely come back and recommend this place to friends and family. The reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because the spicy version of the ramen are way too spicy. And believe me I can handle spicy. The Church’s chicken spicy is moderate compared to Taishoken’s version of spicy.

On a cold November day, my friend and I thought we should have something warm. I had this place bookmarked for awhile, and since we were in the area, it was the perfect time to try it. On Tuesday, we arrived at 11:45 am, and it was already half full. Keep in mind they had just opened at 11:30 am. By the end of our meal, the restaurant was full, and there was a line for a table. I was surprised it was that busy! At first, I wanted to get one of their ramens. However, after reading some reviews, everyone said to just get the Tsukemen ramen. I had not tried dipping ramen before, and wanted something more soupy, but I went with the recommendations anyway. And I’m so glad I did! I got the karamiso and my friend had the spicy broth with our Tsukemen. We had the broth bowls in between us so we could share and try both. I ordered pork shoulder and he got pork belly, which comes in the broth. But for some reason my pork shoulder came out really fatty — I wonder if they accidentally gave me pork belly instead. The karamiso broth was really good. A little spicy and very garlicky. The spicy was a bit too spicy for my taste, and it just got spicier near the bottom. These broths were thicker than the typical ramen broth, and they coated the noodles nicely. The dipping way of eating ramen is also neat — although at the end I just got lazy and dumped the broth on top of the noodles. We both got warm noodles with our Tsukemen. I loved how the noodles stayed chewy and bouncy. These were also slightly thicker than regular ramen noodles, I think, which I liked. The soft boiled egg also comes on top of the noodles. Unfortunately they were not making the hot(ishiyaki?) stones that day as their oven was broken. Otherwise I would have loved to try that to keep my broth hot! The Tsukemen was so tasty — I would definitely come back again when I can. It’s a good sized meal, and afterwards, you can have UYU soft serve for dessert :)

Taishoken has given my stomach a new taste sensation I know I will want to repeat. I just found a new world of ramen eating — TSUKEMEN(dipping noodle)! My friend Andrea P. and I were lucky to be seated right away on a Saturday afternoon, we were greeted promptly and loudly. We instantly knew we were going to order tsukemen but there are options such as original or spicy flavour, cold or warm noodles and pork shoulder or pork belly as the meat. The waitress stated that cold noodles were the traditional route, but most people like the warm noodles, so I opted for the warm noodles, original soup and going all out with the phatty goodness with the pork belly. The noodles were noticeably thicker than regular ramen noodles and they were definitely chewier, which I adored! I enjoyed the gooey egg that came with it, just the right goo and rich yolky goodness. Now for the main dip, the broth was thick and had a layer of oil on the top. I’m not usually a very saucy girl but the thickness of the broth stuck to the noodles like a magnet, the noodles consequently had a taste that was very rich and salty. It was a saturation of flavours and along with the very tender and soft pork belly, that just took my stomach to another level of digestion. I was taking my time to eat and my broth cooled down, so it was very cool(or shall I rather say HOT) that they had a hot stone called a «yaki ishi» that they places inside your bowl of soup! It sizzles and heats up your cooled down soup — so fun to watch! In the end, I couldn’t finish my tsukemen because they gave a lot of noodles(not complaining here) and the soup was just so overwhelming with its heavy flavours. So I had to pack it up and it made for a nice midnight snack, although the noodles lost its extra chewiness once reheated. Overall, very nice service with prompt help and waters were never half full. If I’m craving for a dose of coma inducing flavours and good chewy ramen noodles, this is where you’ll find me!

This place doesn’t disappoint. Really good and flavorful ramen. Just like how it’s supposed to be done in Japan. I would come back again but I live SF Bay Area so that’s another story…

After watching a movie with some Unilocal Elites at Tinseltown, my boyfriend and I were hungry. The first restaurant we looked at on the street was this ramen place Taishoken on the opposite side of the street. It opened till 9:30pm. It was a good timing to eat some late night snacks here. We ordered a spicy tsukemen and a karamiso tsukemen with warm noodles. The portion was good(I.e. The bowl of noodles was not too small or too big. It was about right). The noodles of the tsukemen were round and thick that I really liked the chewy texture. I liked tsukemen more than the regular ramen. The tsukemen came with a piece of seaweed and half of an egg. The sauce or soup that came separately was great! No matter it was spicy or karamiso(two flavours in this sauce or soup — spicy at the bottom and lots of garlic and miso flavours on top) the flavour was excellent. It is a ramen place, so I did not expect the service was extraordinary. It took longer to wait for the tsukemen to come, but it was alright. It is worthwhile to come back to try other ramen in the near future.

Came here for a rainy day bowl of ramen. Decided to get the tsukemen because of the reviews! Now, most people like ramen cause of the broth, but I think noodles conquer all. In any case, the ramen was awesome — chewy and delicious. However, the tsukemen broth is a bit to salty for my tastes. I came with friends who had the tonkotsu ramen, which was rich but lighter and less salty than the tsukemen broth. Overall, the staff were very nice and attentive. Solid ramen shop!

DISCLOSURE: I am not a soup person. I prefer to chew rather than slurp my food. That being said, I had a really nice meal here! Here is my step-by-step guide to an enjoyable ramen experience at Taishoken. 1. Enter restaurant. You will be shouted at in Japanese. Do not be alarmed. You are welcome here. 2. Sit at one of the few tables. Sit at the bar if you have to, it’s comfy enough for two, and the servers bring water on the regular. 3. Order the tsukemen(original, not spicy). Pork BELLY not shoulder, because REALLY. 4. Wait approximately 7 minutes. 5. Prepare your chopsticks. DONOTBEALARMED when they serve you a bowl of soup and then a separate bowl with noodles and egg. 6. Sneak a surreptitious peek at the Google. Determine how to eat soup with minimal embarrassment by dipping noodles into the rich and yummy broth. Savour the delicious pork belly and the bouncy, springy noodles. 7. Learn how to wrangle your noodles properly so you don’t drop broth all over your white shirt. DONOTBEALARMED if you have to slurp a little. 8. Use Tide to Go Pen to rub out ramen broth stains all over your white shirt(see note 7, re: noodle wrangling) 9. Next time order soup for take out so you can slop away in peace, ideally wearing a full bib.

Lunch time. Cloudy day. Queue out the door. You get the picture. For what it’s worth, there’s a good bowl of Ramen to be had here. So, first, they have a few different kinds of Ramen. After choosing the type of Ramen, you have the option of pork shoulder or belly… DUH, belly. I chose to try the Tonkatsu Ramen, which is the common Ramen. I thought the soup was very flavourful and just the right amount of creamy. Pork belly was delicious. I wish they’d give us a whole soft egg instead of just half. Mine also came with a generous amount of bamboo shoots — yum. The Spicy Ramen was very pleasant and delicious, too. The $ 10 price tag isn’t terrible for a good bowl of Ramen. I missed their $ 5 promotion during their opening. I would walk by and never once thought to give it a go. For shame. This takes a spot on my Ramen list, for sure.

Came here two weekends ago. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen which comes with 2 slices of pork chasu, negi, memna, aji-tama, narut, and nori in a golden rich pork and chicken broth. I also added a veggie curry don for a few dollars more. I’m not really a ramen enthusiast but I felt the ramen was pretty good. I can’t really say the same about the don. I personally thought the veggie curry son was a bit too spicy and masked the taste of everything else in it. Nevertheless, I would still recommend coming here. The service was decent and it is in a convenient location close to Rogers Arena and Stadium skytrain station.

Update to my previous review. No longer a fan of their shoyu ramen(bland). I only like their kimchee ramen!

Weak broth… good noodles… fairly quick. That’s the main highlights… let’s flesh out a little detail… Am I a ramen afficianado? Well. I don’t know about that… When I eat it at home, I’m not just popping in some flavour packet… I’m using a broth, herbs and seasonings and such, and MAYBE if I’m lucky… I’m eating that soup in an hour or so… So… weak broth… back to that… basically it just tastes like it was made a little while ago… not much time for all that depth to soak out of the bones/meat/whatever they’re using to make the broth. The noodles… I liked them… the wife thought they were a little too al dente. Ehh… what does she know. ;) Service speed. pretty quick. This was a good thing for us, because we were hitting a movie across the street. So food in front of me, in my face. out the door. I think I’ll stick to Ramen Jinya if I’m in the neighbourhood for ramen.

Come here for a no frills experience. The atmosphere is very much one of «come eat ramen, then be on your merry way»; the décor, menu, and service are all simple. Two additional elements I particularly liked:(1) that it’s in a super convenient location, and(2) it has space to enjoy your food and not feel cramped like most other ramen places. Only gripe is that portions are small(or I was hungry, who knows: P). I will be back.

This is my second time here. Came here because my mom has never tried Ramen and thought she would love it. This place is authentic. There are some restaurant that uses instant noodle but this place uses fresh made noodle. You can taste the difference. The place is always busy. Its very small and a bit dark. Its more of a eat and go place. Food came super fast. So its perfect if you are in a rush. Like all ramen places there are not a lot of choices. I would say they have like 10 options or so. THeir broth was quite tastey and smooth. You can tell it took a lot of time to cook that broth. They are however a bit more expensive them other ramen places and yes there are only 2 pieces of meat. highly valued meat. I highly recommend this place.
