This Japanese food was very low quality. Good selection but really not up to par. I believe it is busy because it is cheaper compared to much better Japanese restaurants in the area

Don’t care much for raw fish, so my sushi experiences are almost exclusively from the vegetarian side. Love the Vegetable Dragon — thick slices of avocado hugging a yam tempura roll, drizzled in sauce and topped with sesame seeds. My favourite, and best sushi choice on the block for cheap and fast.

I can deal with ‘bad’ service if the food comes in less than 10 minutes, and tastes above average. It’s a no-frills restaurant, you came for the food, so expect food and nothing more! Sun sushi is super casual and close to UBC. Therefore, dinner and lunch rushes can get pretty hectic. Their menu is quite extensive as with many sushi restaurants in Vancouver. If you want to try a bit of everything, I suggest you get a bento box. Bento boxes are a good value and provide a good variety of Japanese favourites. I had the bento box(under $ 10) with tofu teriyaki on rice, tempura, yam roll and salad. The proportions were good and it satisfied my sushi craving!

The food has very average quality and is just fine if you want to grab a quick bite. Service can’t get any worse. This used to be a good place to go to, but their lack of waitress training makes my dining experience extremely horrible. Waitress was not helpful when she saw that something was spilled by accident, but just gave us napkins after we asked for it. The same waitress was very negligent when we were trying to pay. Overall really bad experience, and it has happened several times already.

Came in with some preconceived notion that it would be middle of the road. Kept an open mind. Mind is closed now. This is as average as it gets and below average. Such a shame cuz the location is excellent especially for students. But as they say«if you don’t know any better how do you know?» The Cali roll is heavy with rice. The tempura is heavy and just ok. The sashimi is not fresh. The chicken Teriyaki is overcooked and the skin was dry. The service is non attentive. You could do better. But you can see that they have their customer base of people who settle for par. I won’t be back.

The quality of the food and service is in accordance with the price. It’s not bad if you just crave some sushi and if don’t mind thin, flimsy, and insubstantial nigiri, overstuffed with rice. Also, the server also just«drops» the food on to your table, while passing. But I don’t really mind that, and it’s expected from most Chinese restaurants anyway. There was a short piece of hair in my bento box, though. I didn’t want to make a big deal, so I didn’t say anything, but it damaged my experience of the restaurant.

Great family lunch on a nice Saturday here at Sun Sushi. We had an array of boxes, sushi plates, rice bowls and salads — and all was solid. Service was quick, except refilling for our tea. Everyone liked the food, it wasn’t anything particularly«Special» about the food, but simply good, solid food, which is all we wanted and expected given the price and speed.

Go there for lunches sometimes, the price is alright, especially for the point grey area. THE taste is acceptable, but not delicious, the service is quick, but no personality…

I’m sad to say that my opinion of Sun Sushi has slowly degraded over time. I recently ordered a miso soup(aka a very hard dish to mess up) and it was completely watered down. It had barely any flavour and nothing inside :( Also, their prices have been slowly but surely increasing recently and, with that said, I no longer consider it a great«bang for your buck» restaurant. The service, since the start, has always been below par and now with the raised prices and questionable food quality, I fail to see the appeal.

At night after a volleyball practice, we went to Sun Sushi. First thing we asked was«Are you open?» and they said«Yes». Once we took a table, they had a conversation in their own language and then got back to us and said«Sorry, we are closed!». We can’t be sure, but we got a feeling that they threw us out because they thought we are inappropriate people because some of us were in volleyball shirts and shorts. Anyways, they were not so respectful. We didn’t get to try the food though.

Pretty tasty sushi, tempura and bento, fast service, and reasonable prices. The menu is one of the largest I’ve seen. On the flip side the servers were pretty grumpy, and only filled our tea cups when we arrived and just before we left — and the tea was cold anyway.

Sun Sushi offers good prices, but anyone who knows their sushi will be disappointed if they want something above average. West Point Grey isn’t exactly full of sushi restaurants, so I’m not surprised by the 4 and 5 star ratings given by other reviewers. In Vancouver though, this restaurant is a solid 2 or 2.5 star because their focus is on price and not quality. Students are probably going to love this place for the price and the short distance from the campus. One good thing is the speed of service. It took them less than five minutes to get the order to my table. In terms of food quality, it’s merely a notch above supermarket sushi. I’ve been here a few times for lunch and the quality has been consistently on the low end. The few times I’ve been here, I ordered one of their teriyaki lunch bento boxes and it came with some dark colored tempura which was clearly fried in oil that was past its useful life. The three thin pieces of nigiri sushi was nothing to write home about. The teriyaki? Another ‘meh’ rating from me. Far too salty and the quality of the meat was questionable. This is a decent lunch place but for dinner, I would opt for something better.

Love this place, close to home for me and very good prices! The sushi is fresh and really good. My personal favourite is the gyoza(best I’ve ever had.) The food comes out very quickly so if you need good sushi to go and your in a hurry, come here! The staff are pretty quiet but it’s okay!

As a native persian man, born and raised in my native land of iran, this sushi restaurant is rather lack luster. If you’re looking for the mcdonalds equivalent of a Japanese restaurant, you’ve found your place. Sincerely, Odeegouyy

I’ve been to SunSun Sushi many times. The pros: — it’s cheap($ 5.9520PC special) — it’s easy to get to with lots of parking The cons: — Every time I have been there they have piles of dirty dishes, metal trays of ingredients and other dirty cookware stacked up on the floor. You can see it and smell it from a bunch of the tables. Dirty. Gross. — the staff aren’t very friendly at all, nor are they attentive. I usually have to go find my waitress to get water, tea or more water. — it smells like fish when you walk in. At a cleanly, quality sushi place you won’t smell the fish.

Fresh food, good eats. The service here is amazingly fast and you won’t be waiting long. For newcomers, I recommend the House Roll or Agarashi Tofu. These are my consistent favorites here. The sashimi here is very fresh.

Fresh and very reasonable prices for serving sizes. Service is hit or miss. It’s been good before and it’s been lax on another visit. The ika karage was excellent. I’ve had the bento boxes and they’re surprisingly very filling. Not the best I have ever had, but given the price, I’ll likely keep going back.

Like a lot of other reviewers have said, you really can’t go wrong with the sushi special; Miso soup, yam tempura roll, california roll, and tuna roll for $ 5.95! It’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but it certainly good! I have never left feeling disappointed, and the fish always seems reasonably fresh and the rolls are satisfyingly tasty.

Lots of reviews here so I’ll keep it short. Go for the sushi special $ 5.95 and you won’t be disappointed. I keep switching between 3 and 4 stars but after having been here over 4 times already, I think the 4 star rating is quite deserving. Best of all, it’s super close to UBC so avoid the sushi crap at the UBC Village and go for a quick 10 min ride on the 99 bus to Sun Sushi.
