I just remember being epically stoned so I can’t really recall the sushi too much, but the sake martinis were fantastic. I wish there was something like this where I am!

A decent sushi spot for when my regular place is closed. Listen, not everyone eats lunch at noon, sometimes it’s 3, and that means our favourite place was closed. Boo. I’ve been to Sake Maki a few times over the years — I used to live just around the corner, so it was convenient. They’ve renovated since the last time I was there, and I like the changes — it’s cosier. My miso soup was pretty good, my real crab California roll wasn’t bad, and the veggie gyoza were MASSIVE. The gyoza were pretty good, but veggie ones never totally wow me. Boyfriend enjoyed his ramen and nigiri, although I found the seaweed used to wrap the rolls a little chewy. Service was ok, our server was on her phone for half the time we were there(like, at the table handing us menus and on the phone) but I guess 3pm is such an off time that she wasn’t concerned about doing so. Not my favourite place, but it’s fine in a pinch.

Low quality Chinese-style sushi. the sashimi is terrible. Too much grease in their tempura. Very little TLC and the owners are not very pleasant. They had weird fake hand-written reviews all over the restaurant wall for the longest time and they were all basically written in the same three people’s handwriting with repetitions of the same spelling and grammar mistakes. Sake Maki is probably the ninth or tenth best place in the immediate neighborhood, and that’s not saying much. But you do get a lot of food for a pretty cheap price. So they’ve got that going for them.

Ordered 50 $ of delivery. Teriyaki chicken don– the breading was mush and completely unappealing Dynamite roll– has lettuce I hate that Gyoza veg– was mushy and fell apart Salmon avocado cone was good, that was the only thing. Would not order again. Another fail for delivery.

My favorite sushi place in the world. I love eating salmon nigiri, and a good eel is always appreciated. But I’ve had that a thousand times at different sushi restaurants. Here, they have truly creative creations involving avocado, mango, fried banana, yams, and more. A welcome change for my bored palette. The staff are always friendly.

Really good food and they had gluten free soy sauce. Their fun rolls are adventurous and delicious. They were also really nice and let us hang out way past closing– although I do not recommend you take advantage of their kindness. We apologize for doing so

I’m surprised at the number of 5 star reviews here. I made reservations for a Saturday at noon for a group of six. It was really confusing since Unilocal says they open at 11:30, and their own website said they open at 1:30. When I made the call I let them know and they said they always open at 11:30… Anyway, just imagine this. Saturday afternoon. On the Drive. Lunch time. I can count on one hand the number of patrons that came in total. One person came to eat by herself and there was another group of three. So needless to say, not much business while we were here. The sushi was average and definitely not the best Vancouver has to offer. Service was fine but it damn well better be when you have the whole restaurant to yourself. At the end of the day, nothing too memorable here. If in the area, Kishimoto is a better bet.

Favorite sushi place on the Drive. Large portions, great sashimi, fair prices. The only downside is the service — it’s hit or miss. It can be really good, or it can be forgettable. Tip accordingly.

Great sushi! Service is OK, can be great depending on who you get. I like that they have brown rice. You can tell it used to be a greek restaurant. They would do better without all the cheesy outdated construction paper drawings on the wall… if they updated their décor. I like their dishes, they are classy. Would add a star if they used real chopsticks instead of disposable too!

The only thing you need to concern yourself with is the Angel Roll. Review over. This is a lovely little place with lots of veggie options. They even have brown rice if you so fancy. The service is always friendly and the food comes out pretty damn quick. The place is small, so be prepared for that intimate feeling between you and your fellow diners. Also, because of said smallness, this is no place for babies and giant strollers. I am looking at you parents!

It’s alright sushi but with the half-dozen or so along the Drive, much better options out there, esp. Kishimoto, which is actually authentic or Britannia, much more spacious with a patio. well, not useful at this time of year lol. Price-wise, no and decent-sized. A bit dimmed. anyhoo, dont’ like how closely the tables are arranged, you can literally join in your neighbour’s conversation, which is good if you’re on a boring date, but for 1st impressions, a definite no. Good location as it’s right in the heart of the Drive, pls be a good parallel parker if i’m behind you waiting.

Really cute little place. My sushi partner in crime suggested we come here instead of our usual commercial drive sushi spot, Kojima. Very delicious and fresh. I tried their deep fried spicy tuna roll. Absolutely melt in your mouth delicious. I ordered a few other things and was taken aback a bit that the bill for just my food was almost $ 25. I am a big eater but I’m full at Kojima’s for under $ 7. Oh well… I could tell there was good quality going on there. I’d like to go back for a nice dinner or possibly just that deep fried spicy tuna! YUM!

Cute and quaint, the little restaurant is friendly and cozy, great for get-togethers and casual 1 on 1s. They have notes posted along the walls from previous guests recommending certain menu items & thanking them. The service is great, the staff is nice and we were regularly visited. The food arrived promptly and was served very fresh. We ordered the Crunch Roll(recommended by the posts on the wall) and fell in love immediately. It’s got to be their best seller — it has tempura in it and a slice a mango over the top drizzled in sauce — it looked and tasted amazing. The portions are fair and the prices were very reasonable. They have lunch and dinner combos which is an excellent deal! I couldn’t stop thinking about the Crunch Roll. The atmosphere was friendly and quiet and anyone walking in would immediately be greeted and taken care of immediately. They have an extensive menu and will definitely return to try many other rolls!

This place is great! Very reasonably priced and great creative sushi. The décor is not amazing but the food is great. I would recommend: Prawn Mango Love(appetizer with prawn tempura and mango) Tuna Sashimi with Yuzu sauce also a version with Toro and Avocado Crunch roll Their delivery is fast and free if you order $ 20. This is definitely the best Sushi place on the drive(& I have tried them all)

Sake Maki felt like our extended kitchen for a while — we live close by, and we started coming here a few times a week… for months. lunches, dinners and take-outs… The décor is warm and family friendly — i love the colourful«Sake Maki rocks my world» hand drawn testimonials all over the walls. I love the smiling wooden Buddha faces, and the mural of mount Fuji(with little swans!) Yes, it still has decorative echoes of being a Greek restaurant — but it’s quirky, and i dig quirk. The Crunchy Roll will blow the mind of every single one or your taste buds. So, come prepared. The Angel roll is good, but doesn’t have as much purple yam as the picture alludes to. The Yam Tempura rolls are definitely at the top of my yet to be made«best yam rolls of Vancouver» list. My partner often gets Spicy Tuna and California roll — never a complaint, the Teriyaki dishes are saucy… I get a kick out of their ‘special salad’ that comes with combination platters — It’s unnatural how much i like this tiny bowl of lettuce — so special! Every time we come things are served consistently hot(or chilled as the case may be), and at the same level of fresh tastiness. It’s reliably good. I will say don’t come for lunch if you’re in a great hurry — our slowest service has been at lunchtime, and I can see how a few have received a «why are you showing up here before we close» vibe, as I got that from a take-out experience once over the phone. «why are you calling me so late?» was her tone. But, when i arrived to pick up,(and recognized as a regular?) i was warmly welcomed and received fresh rolls on time. I see others have noted poor service and poor sushi. I’m surprised, I expected to see the Sake Maki rolling a solid 4 – 5 stars, but, hey, shitake happens. If you’re by the Drive, and you need sushi — sockit to your taste buds and drop by the Sake Maki.

After a movie three of us thought we would grab a late snack along the Drive. Someone suggested we go to Sake Maki as it was one of the few places open until 10:30pm. We ordered the tuna tataki, the tuna don, goma ae, the yaki udon and some items to go. Everything was good, but nothing inspiring or memorable. The restaurant seemed clean and orderly, but they could lose all the specials written on pieces of coloured paper and tacked to the walls. The only thing I didn’t like was the waitress. We seemed an inconvenience to her as we had stepped in the door 45 minutes before they were closing. She wasn’t afraid of letting us know with her passive aggressive mannerisms. Impatient and a little grumpy when taking our order, getting our meals out as soon as they were ready instead of waiting 2 minutes to serve everyone together. Hovering over us while we paid the bill. I think some places should be more careful who they pick to interact with the public. There is a reason the mean soup guys business on Seinfeld failed.

A friend suggested this place for a small group of us for dinner on a Sunday night, and since none of us felt like cooking we decided to give’r a try. We were seated right away, and given menus, which were a bit confusing since there were two different sushi menus, one featuring specials and the other featuring rolls available, and since Sunday is typically a day for me to be mentally slow, it took me a while to figure this out. I was so excited that they had so many veggie options on the menu, so I ordered way more than I needed to, but my eyes have always been bigger than my belly, and I was glad to have leftovers. I ended up ordering a sushi combo #2, veggie gyoza, miso soup, and an angel roll,(which was filled with purple yam, avocado and mango, for $ 9! Overpriced!) The food all came pretty quickly and was really good, and I was stuffed like a little piggy before I knew it. We ordered dessert because they had deep fried banana and ice cream for like $ 6. And you always have room for ice cream because it just melts into all the cracks in your belly between the other foods, so it doesn’t take up any space. After gorging so badly I had to make a visit to the bathroom, which ended up with me using the men’s room, since the ladies one was full. It’s not like it was a bathroom with stalls so it didn’t matter, it was just a room with a door you could lock. The problem was that after I used the toilet I realized it didn’t flush. I felt like Harry from Dumb and Dumber, only THANKGOD I didn’t drop a load like he did! But of course after realizing this thing wasn’t about to flush I just wanted to get out of the restaurant as fast as possible. So of course I turned the lights off in the room and quietly snuck out before anyone could point a finger at me and accuse me of breaking the shitter. Luckily for me the bill was split up for each of us so there was no time wasted in trying to figure out how much each person owed, it was pay up and get the hell out! I was thinking I’d be back, but after posting this, my embarrassment could lead me to another sushi spot if I am ever in this area.

Ordered the crunch roll, and the fuji roll off of the chef’s recommendation. The crunch roll is primarily a californa roll(I think) with mango and coconut on top. Sweet and crunch — very unique and its a pretty good pairing. The Fuji roll is a spicy salmon roll with some extra stuff on top(can’t remember exactly what). Also got a spicy tuna roll which was good. The chef recommendations were 8.95 each and the spicy tuna roll was 3.49, with the total bill coming to $ 22 and change for two of us. It was delicious and cheap. A definitely plus in my books. However, don’t expect superior service. During the entire meal, the servers didn’t look happy to be there at all, shoving plates and trying to turn tables quickly. We were fortunate enough to get a table as soon as we entered, but there was quickly a small line up at the door. The restaurant is fairly small and cramped too. I’m completely willing to over looking the poor service and cramped space for the sushi! Will definitely go back and try some other things.
