Nothing fancy here but we love this place. We’ve tried the Nagasaki Chanpon, the Soba with Tiger Prawn Tempura, the gyoza, the Menya Shoyu Ramen … All delicious. Best Sunomono Salad I’ve ever tasted!

Ramen is solid. I feel like I would frequent here because its out of the hassle of downtown and the price is right! Cheap and decent ramen. The broth is savoury(I had the nagahama), milky and rich. The décor is simple, traditional and rustic. The seating is all just logs, which I think is stellar. If you like ramen its worth a try, especially if you want to avoid the hassle of parking downtown. Just remember to park south of this place– tones of 2 hr and meters.

The noodles were alright! Would come back to try something else though.

I often go here when I am in the area. I wish I could give a half star more to this place. 3 stars for their ramen, 5 stars for their gyozas.(I even asked to sell me uncooked gyozas).

Was having a Ramen craving and Menya just hit the spot! Located close to Cambie on Broadway is this cozy lil ramen shop. The Japanese staff are always very cheery and polite in seating/serving you. I ordered the Tonkotsu Miso ramen because that’s what I was craving but noticed they have other interesting dishes on their menu. like Chanpon and jah jang myun. I’m only acquainted with the korean counterparts to this dish so I’m making a mental note to come back and try these since I’ve never seen this offered at other Ramen places before. I got the set menu with the Ramen and so started off with the Takikomi Rice Ball. It was so delicious! Seasoned with soy sauce and had lil bits of mushroom in it. So simple yet so delicious :) The gyoza that came with the noodles were adorable, a perfect bite size or two. The noodles in the ramen were cooked perfectly and I appreciated the deep fried garlic chips in the soup. They give the perfect amount of garlicky-ness to the soup. Menya has tons of condiments on the side and I made sure to put in a couple drops of spicy oil as well as sesame oil just to kick it up a notch. The broth, the noodles, the corn, and the bamboo shoots together were perfect! At first I worried that the set menu would be too much but it was just the right amount of food for me.

This is one of my frequented ramen places in the city. Their food has a very homestyle feel to it. I usually order the Nagahama Ramen with an egg and the prawn & veg tempura. I like their simple, clean, and flavorful broth. Their cha-su is pretty good too — not overly fatty but flavorful. Their tempura is tasty, not greasy, and lightly battered. Gyozas are small but good. It‘s not the best ramen in the city, but it‘s a great fix when you‘re craving something soupy and comforting during those many vancouver rainy days. And it‘s cheap. Service is good and fast. It never gets super busy and I‘ve never had to wait for a table.

I have been there so many times. It’s not fantastic ramen, but good enough to go when I am around there. I ate Champon Ramen, which is made by frying pork, seafood and a lot of vegetables with lard. I usually eat their Nagahama Ramen, but I wanted to try something new, so I ate Chanpon noodle. It was nice for me to eat a lot of vegetable(usually I don’t eat enough vegetable), but it taste kind of bland.

Definitely a fan! My sister and I were able to grab a seat just before the lunch rush at around 12pm with no problems at all. We were offered tea and the server was so friendly when explaining some of the questions we had about the menu. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen(pork /miso broth) that came with corn and bamboo shoots. I added a boiled egg for an extra 75 cents of course! We decided to share the set that came with a bbq pork rice ball and gyoza. The broth was amazing, authentic, and full of flavour! I enjoyed every single bite of what we ordered! I could tell that these guys were popular because there was a swarm of people lining up right after we were seated. Heads up, they are closed between 3pm and 5pm so keep that in mind! I definitely recommend this place over Benkei which is also in the cambie area. Menya all the way!

lolwut… I haven’t reviewed this place yet, although I’ve been here many times over the last several years. The ramen is just so-so, depending on who’s cooking it that day. What I love and what i order every time is the jah jang myun. It’s not like korean jajangmyun or chinese jajangmian. It’s kind of in between, quite similar to taiwanese style dry noodles with meat sauce. I love it. I could eat this stuff for ages.

We live around the corner and get food to go at least once a week. I have recently switched to a special diet and they have been very accommodating. Excellent Ramen. I love the Tan Tan men, but due to diet, i’ve switched to the Shoyu. Hubby loves the Miso Ramen with extra chashu. Delish ramen and great service! Love this place!

Sign of a good ramen restaurant? Two empty bowls. And yes, we all know my husband finished mine for me. =) I had the Nagahama ramen, with an additional egg, in the ramen set(four gyoza and a rice ball), and a Sapporo beer. My husband had the miso tonkotsu(?) ramen, two rice balls, and the chicken kara-age. First of all, yay for cold Sapporo in good-sized cold cups! There’s nothing better after a long week then a cold beer with your ramen. The rice balls came out first. I had the chashu rice ball, which was delicious! I wish I had room for more than two bites, but I knew that if I wanted to eat more of my ramen, I’d have to let my husband finish the rice balls. Then the ramen came out. My broth was so good I was tempted to drink it all. The egg was cooked to silken perfection. And the chashu, while not overly fatty, was still delicious. And lots of menma(pickled bamboo)! Yay! The noodles were excellent, too, really delicious. I managed to eat much more of them than I ever could at Kintaro. Maybe that’s because the noodles were thinner? I don’t know. I don’t know what my husband’s ramen tasted like. He inhaled it. =) He *told* me it was delicious but besides an extra comment on the egg, and then a comparison between the broths when he finished mine(mine was lighter and clearer, his was based on a miso paste that might have had a touch of hot oil(la yu) in it, which he nevertheless loved). The gyoza were adorable. The perfect size for me. So cute. And tasty, too. And the kara-age was perfect. We were both full and happy. And the staff are Japanese, which makes my husband very happy. Me too. Nothing like speaking Japanese to someone who thinks your just a dumb haole, and then seeing them light up with appreciation.

Authentic Japanese Ramen. Bowl is real artsy Japanese porcelain ware. Reminds me of dining in Yokohama and Tokyo. Chopsticks very Japanese. My daughter from Nagoya gave me my personal Japan sculpted chopsticks! Domo aregato!

Thanks Annie for reminding me to check this place out, been meaning to, but with those lineups and parking, the other day I lucked out. Ordered the tonkatsu ramen, and liked the corn(albeit probably canned but that’s to be expected), broth, plenty of onions, bamboo but so few pieces of meat: maybe 2.5 at best lol. Granted, for under $ 8, it’s more than decent to fill the craving. Probably not one to recommend to out of town guests, perhaps the in-laws, lol, but nothing to really rant and rave about. A bit of garlic chips come to think of it, but butchered and soggy. That’s why I like the Maru-whatever where they supply you with a cup to put in at one’s discretion, so crunchier that way ;) It’s even smaller than the other ramen places in DT, so best to make sure you write in your name on the waiting list, self-serve. Otherwise, doesn’t matter if you’re there first or not.

Went here with a friend for lunch today. If you want authentic Japanese food prepared and served by Japanese, come here. I had the tan tan men and we split san order if four gyozas. It was delicious and I will be back! They open at 11:30 and I suggest you get here around that time. They get people waiting all the way outside the door. I think it’s worth the wait.

Menya Japanese Noodle is a small restaurant located on West Broadway near Cambie Steet. This ramen shop seats are limited, it’s not good for large group and no reversation. In cold day, I’m craving for Japanese Ramen but didn’t want to drive all the way to downtown. So I checked it out. Tonkotsu Miso Ramen — Pork bone soup broth was rich and taste ok. Cha-shu was cold. Menya Shoya Ramen — Chicken wasn’t smooth and broth was tastless. If a bowl of ramen can’t make you full, another option is available set menu + $ 3.40 for 4pcs goyza or rice ball. We ordered goyza, it’s ok. Menya Ramen is so famous in Japan. But, I don’t think it good enough in Vancouver.

Vancouver Ramen Challenge — Menya Ramen We just happened to walk by this ramen joint on Broadway between Cambie and Main St and decided to try it as it appeared authentic. We had the Nagahama Ramen which is Tonkotsu style with added egg of course and also ordered a spicy fish roe rice triangle. The price as cheap at about $ 8/bowl of ramen but it’s not even worth the $ 8. If you want ramen, then definately stay in the west end of Vancouver downtown that’s where they all seem to be clustered around. This off beat location may be fine for those who doesn’t want to hassle in downtown area, but it will be worth the track. Value 3⁄5 atmosphere 2.5÷5 service 3⁄5 quality 2.5÷5 11⁄20

I’m a fan of Menya and it’s my preferred ramen spot this side of Downtown. It’s leagues better than Benkei down the street. I really enjoy the consistency of the noodles here; always. The pork is consistently tender, the broth may not have the same depth as Motomachi on Denman but it is thick without tasting too oily or salty. I’m pretty boring and usually get the Menya Shoyu ramen. It’s often quite busy but they have a number of seats along the windows which are great for my solo lunches. Sometimes I grab an onigiri for a late-afternoon snack.

Classic, simple, affordable and delicious. I really enjoy coming here by myself when I am running errands in the afternoon on the weekend. I love how the soup is rich, but not oily. Definitely a go to spot.

Authentic, Casual Japanese Ramen Stopped in for a quick bite. Menya is a mom and pop operation serving very tasty and delicious ramen, donburi, and bento boxes at a reasonable price. I had the oyako don(egg on rice) which was simple but filling and deeply satisfying — very much a reminder of what a casual meal in Japan is like. The servers are very friendly in a traditional Japanese way and are very prompt with refilling drinks and bring our food. The place is pretty tiny and I can see it getting pretty busy on a friday or saturday night. Being located a block from one of the main train stations, I’m surprised it wasn’t packed — perhaps it’s the bright lights of Sushi California across the street that’s drawing all the attention. Either way, give this hidden gem a try. It might grow on you.
