If you ever want Japanese BBQ, Gyu Kaku is definitely the place to be! I go there every year for my birthday with a few close friends. Make sure you make a reservation as the place gets busy especially with bigger parties. The place has nice and trendy renos and the place is still relatively new. I believe they have all day happy hour on Mondays. Since i’m a meat eater I love getting all the meat such as chicken, pork and of course beef! They also have some pretty cool appetizers as well. Their seasoning, taste and quality of the meat sure is awesome. The smell and sizzling of the grill is already mouth watering. If you are too lazy to figure out what to get I suggest you try out their set meals and it is more fun to go with 3 or more people so you can try out more different things on the menu. Service is also pretty good at this location. Don’t forget to check out their dessert menu afterwards. Paid parking available at lot beneath restaurant.

Great place to dine, but a bit pricey. Tip: be prepared for the BBQ smoke to get in your clothes/hair I would return again.

Whenever we come to Vancouver from Coquitlam we try to go to this restaurant. The chicken karaage is my favourite, it comes with soup and salad. The bibimbap is also very good, they Make their own sauce.

Came here with a group of friends and took advantage of the happy hour fixed menus. Even though there were five people in our party, we chose the four person meal and we were all full by the end! There was a great selection of meats and vegetables for grilling as well as bibimbap, rice, salad, miso soup and ice cream for dessert. Really fun place to go with friends so you can cook the BBQ together and it’s really cheap for what you get during happy hour(which is almost all the time). Coming here is a great alternative to going for all-you-can-eat restaurants since you’d probably be paying a similar or lesser price for eating until you are stuffed! Even though the restaurant was fairly busy, our waitress attended to us and made sure we had everything we needed. So far my favourite place to go for Japanese BBQ!

Great experience all around. My family and I went on Monday all day happy hour. Authentic and delicious Japanese BBQ food. Super friendly and courteous server. Be sure to set aside ample time because you will have to BBQ your own food.

Came for the happy hour special for two at $ 49.95. If you add their app you get another $ 5 off and free edamame if you add them on Instagram or Facebook. Amazing amount of food, feeds well over 2 people. However, I think the quality of meats is better at the downtown location. Service attendants are a bit too busy to give the best service but overall, great deal!

Food was yummy and the meats were great quality cuts. We got the samurai meal… It was good but expensive and small portions of meat. We were not fully satisfied. The hostess really annoyed me. We arrived at 5:45 to a restaurant with only two tables full and the hostess repeated 4 times that we need to b done by 7… guess what? It’s 7:20 as I’m sitting here writing this and there are still 3 empty tables around me. She was rude as hell if you ask me.

With the prices they’re charging, no wonder there’s an abundance of front line staff. Came on a Monday evening, which supposedly has happy hour discounts all day. Ordered a Geisha set, 3 small plates of meat, a large sake and the total came to $ 100+ for two. Not exactly cheap considering it’s already hh pricing. Service was polite and attentive, I just wished the place had offered better value overall.

Went there last night to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Six of us settled on the Shogun which came to about $ 20 pp before all the other beverages. In the end with my sake and my partner’s beer I think we paid about $ 60. This was a fun place to go with a group. It was busy being a Thursday night. Our dinner included beef, pork, and chicken. We had salads, gyoza, kimchee, rice, bimimbap and Karagi chicken. Also they had a $ 934 ounce, Sapporo Beer! Killer! Service was okay. There were really long breaks between courses and our waiter was hard to find sometimes. Granted it was busy and he was probably all over the place. This is someplace I’d take family and friends when they visit Vancouver. We celebrate our food diversity!

Gyu Kaku, once you go here it’ll revolutionize the way you think about grilling meats. Not my first visit, and definitely won’t be my last. Gyu Kaku has 2 locations, the first being downtown, and the second location is on broadway. Both are AMAZING. We came to the broadway location for a group of 6(made reservations earlier) and ordered a set meal for 4, and as many of the dishes as we could fit into our stomaches. Which was a lot. tongue, heart, chuck, marinated, pork belly, duck, pretty much all we can eat which was a lot. They usually have 2 servers per table(one in training and an established staff member) which works out great because they can always take more orders and refill those beer mugs!

Came here over the weekend for lunch. First time at this location. Been to the downtown location numerous times in the past, but stopped after what it seems like their ventilation stopped working. One of my pet peeves is smelling like my food after eating it. Anyway this is newer than the downtown location, so might as well give it a try. It’s a BBQ grill your own food style restaurant. I had chicken, beef, veggies. When grilled properly it is all very good. The chicken is one of my personal favourites. Honestly, you don’t even need the extra dipping sauces. Food is an easy 4 stars if you have a good person manning the grill. Definitely worth it if you come during happy hour or when the food is discounted. However, loses a star because of not having enough staff. The server we had was nice but incredibly hard to get a hold of on a number of occasions. And the food also took a while to come out despite it all being raw. There also does not appear to be free parking. Reimbursement appears to be only for ihop and the Chinese restaurant. As a result, overall this is middle of the road rating for me. PS: Considering I had BBQ, I didn’t leave smelling like it!

SUPERHAPPYHOURISSUPERAMAZINGEVERYONE. Came after 9pm on a Monday night and a pitcher of Sapporo was $ 12. Crazyyyyyyyy. The atmosphere is not bad, place is pretty clean, service is decent. The place is pretty busy though, which is totally understandable because the super happy hour is just so, so bomb. Boyfriend and I split a pitcher, ordered like 6 food things including spicy pork, toro beef, calamari, etc and our total came to $ 30 which is amazing. A pitcher of beer is usually like $ 18 so. If you go on other days a glass of beer is $ 3 which is also crazy. Perfect for the broke student that I am! Will be coming back for sureeeeeeee

Our first time here at Gyu-Kaku and we had an amazing experience! Food was yummy! Employees are very friendly! We’ve ordered their Chicken Karaage & Crispy Bacon for appetizers to start. It was really good! Comes with some kind of light chipotle dip. For our mains, we’ve ordered Bibimbap Sukiyaki Beef. It comes in this sizzling bowl, and it was really hot! They’ll mix it in front of you, which added a unique experience. We’ll definitely come back here again to try out their hotpot and other items on their menu.

i always find myself coming back to this location, probably because its a relatively close one and more parking choices. If you dont know gyu-kaku, it is an international yakiniku chain from japan, and its quite good? im not sure how bbqing meats yourself is good but its good. haha. to me, there is no difference between this bway location and the DT nelson location. same restaurant, same menu, and almost same service. the good thing is that this location has neighbourhood parking, no lineups, relatively quite, and smoke-free [nelson location tends to be very smoky due to lots of ppl]. a common complaint about both restaurants is the timing for bringing out certain dishes such as meats, somethings that should of been pre-ready to serve are always delayed. while cooked appetizers are always first and on-time. even for all their faults, i cant bring myself to dislike them. they’re a major player in bringing the yakiniku fad to vancouver, and thats a wonderful thing. A representing Four, out of Five.

Come here tons! The price is very fair and they have a lot of nice set menus. They have a lot of different kinds of beef — the portions aren’t huge so go ahead and try a few! Service is good too. They constantly replace the grill, leaving you with a nice clean surface for the meat. If you’re into sweets, try out their smores!

Ambiance & Service 4⁄5. I like their hot plates that have the vents built in so you dont smell after. Nice décor and young crowd at night. Service is overall pretty good unless it’s busy. 8⁄10 times I’ve been there it’s been great service. Open late till 11pm most days and later on weekends. Food 3⁄5 Good if you marinate the food enough with the sauces they provide. Dont have super high expectations. Location 3.5÷5 Lots of Meter parking below and a parkade. Walkable from Canada line(about 10 blocks), is near a few main bus routes. Price 3.5÷5. Regular hours $$ Happy hour $ and Super happy hour -$ haha

Gyu-Kaku is basically Japanese BBQ at the table along with a few cooked snacks. We decided to have dinner on a Monday night since it was Happy Hour(HH) all day/night. All items on their HH menu is ½ off and there were quite a variety. We ordered chicken, beef, pork, tofu, mushrooms, asparagus and corn. Beer and sake is also on the HH menu so we were happy. We called ahead for reservations and they have a 2 hour limit, but it was enough time for us. Service was excellent and we were never ignored. Staff came to change our BBQ grill for us once through the meal and made sure our beverages were full as well. Our bill came to $ 210 for 6 people without tax and tip. Great deal for happy hour, but might get a little pricey during regular menu.

I work near by and this is a usual spot for me to head out for lunch. They have combos around $ 10. As well if you download their app you can also collect points which you can redeem for food. If you check in in-front of them, they give you free edamame(big portion). Dine on Thursday and you also get 20% off on your combo. the waitress are very friendly and will always ask if this is my first time here. They would take the effort to explain the menu. Food is fresh but can be quite pricy for the small portion.

Gyu Kaku is a chain store in North America, we have 2 locations in Vancouver as well. They have few menus — happy hour, weekday lunch, weekend brunch, course menu and regular. I kept returning to Gyu Kaka few times before I wrote this review. The service was great and food quality pretty the steady. We went there for lunch and picked from their weekday lunch menu which is available from 11:30 — 6pm. I’m quite impressed with their set lunches that they offer — so much variety, it was difficult to pick. Had $ 3 Sapporro and various discounted BBQ dishes! Even though I’m not a meat lover, such a small dish of beef(tenderloin or steak) dish. I can handle it! I prefer to return at Happy Hour rather than normal dining hours, it can be quite pricey. If you better deal besides happy hours, just download their apps to collect the points for free dish.
