I look at most of the reviews here, that have been either in the lines of a 3 star, or have practically slagged the place and someone should have just closed this business listing and put a new one, as this place has not just changed in name but also in ownership and had a face-lift from what I used to come to. Gone are the days of the green sign and the ugly interior, yet still all the reviews from the past follow this and after coming here a few times in the last month I actually enjoy coming here for the food and the service. On my latest visit, which was a weekday, my friend wanted to do lunch around my area and I suggested this place to have dim sum. We got there around 12:30 on a Wednesday, it wasn’t too busy, the parking lot was semi-packed in the front and then I went in and saw my buddy. This restaurant has an odd shape to it, and we sat on the left side, which is a bit narrow compared to the right side, but it was just the two of us. And the servers did not forget about us in this corner of the restaurant. We had an assortment of things on this day, from the rice rolls with shrimp, sui mai, har gow, claypot rice with ribs and chicken feet, a seperate order of chicken feet, some specialty type spring rolls, yes this order was just the two of us while we drank cup after cup of tea. I can say that now, this place definitely has better food, all of them came to our table steaming hot, and not one was over seasoned, all dishes came better than expected. One of their signature dishes that we did not order, but I have had in the last few visits is the mushroom bun, think of something that really, actually looks like a real mushroom, but is actually Chinese bun like, but it does have mushroom filling inside, it’s pretty cool, and one thing we order when coming here. I know they have 20% before 11AM on the weekdays, a place that probably will generate more traffic from the locals but if you are not from here and somehow find your way toward this location, I do recommend it. Their parking lot right in front is medium size, and the streets have no meters, so it should not be a problem, but really it is about the food, and after being here 3 times in a month, it is consistent. The décor, not too posh, the prices, fair to say for what you are getting. I hope to try their dinner one day, but for now this seems like the close dim-sum and the choice pick for the Hastings Sunrise area.

Dimsum in a convenient location! My friends and I decided to make a last-minute decision to go for a fast dimsum lunch, and I was definitely surprised at how friendly and fast the service is here. We ordered the shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, steamed spareribs, chinese donuts, salt & pepper tofu and tripe. My personal highlight was the tripe as it wasn’t as fatty as some other places and the flavour wasn’t as overwhelming or garlicy. However, I did find the portion of the tofu to be slightly smaller than what I was expecting. Would definitely come back here because of its convenience and accessibility. They also have a deal for dimsum before 10/11am, so will definitely wake up earlier next time!

My parents used to come here a lot for family dinners, but we stopped coming because of the quality of food and service were terrble under the old management. We decided to come here for dim sum, curious if things had improved. The seating is still very tight. I wished they would of got rid of some tables so it would be easier to manuver around. Food was good. They had some specialty doshes that other restaurants did not offer, for instance red rice roll with deep fried fish inside. The siu mai with surf crab was disappointing. It was just siu nai with surf crab served on top. We sent back a plate of fried rice noodles because the noodles was still hard and unedible. They were kind enough to substitute for another dish. Service could be a bit better. The entire time we were here they refilled our tea pot once. It was pretty close to the end of our meal.

Odered dinner for one takeout. New owners raised their prices from $ 15 to $ 20. Got the food home and found that they did not give me plum sauce for the spring rolls or soya sauce for the rice. The food was not very good on top that. Won’t go back there.

Great dim sum and no wait! Service is definitely lacking, but the selection of dim sum is large enough to make you not care. Hard thing for me with a lot of Chinese food restaurants is t g e amount of sodium in the food. I always feel incredibly sluggish after eating certain dishes at certain places. This is one of them. Décor is gorgeous on the inside and they have their own parking lot. Food is a 4 Service is a 2 Atmosphere is a 5 Pretty easy to find too! ^-^

Went on a Saturday night. The food was tasty but the service was absolutely terrible. The manager was attentive to get our order but after that she was no where to be found, nor the wait staff. Tea took over 10 minutes to fill and our plates were not cleared after the lobster dish nor were we given bowls for our rice/noodle dish. And to round out the night it took the manager over 20 minutes to give us our bill. For a group of 11 spending over $ 400 at this place, one would expect at least a minimum level of service that we did not receive. Embarrassing! Please avoid this place for eating in.

We were a group of 12 people with a reservation for my boyfriends birthday dinner. This was our first time coming and we didn’t mind giving it a try. I rate this place 2.5 stars based on food and service. — Service was insanely slow, we even made a list of what to order before we got there because we had a feeling it would be busy. The line up on the Saturday night was out the door. This was our first time coming here so we were not expecting that. There were only 2 waiters in our side of the restaurant and one waiter on the other side. They were running around frantic the entire evening and never looked up to see if we needed anything. — We had to ask for wine glasses 4 times. We got 6 glasses and had to go and get the other 6 glasses ourselves. We asked for a baby seat 3 times and my friend had to get up and ask the waitress himself. We asked for glasses of water 4 times and never got it until the restaurant was almost empty. — Food is decent. We ordered around 12 – 14 dishes(we had plenty left overs). Some that I can remember were: 5lbs of Crab in ginger garlic sauce, seafood chow mien, fat noodles with beef in satay sauce, scallop fried rice, shrimp fried rice, peking duck(cooked 2 ways), whole crispy chicken, deep fried pork chops, veggies and tofu, hot and sour soup, fish maw soup, gai lan and beef. — DONOT get the duck. Probably the worst dish we had because there was hardly any meat for the lettuce wraps or on the peking skin. Everything else was okay. — Even with our huge order and bill of about $ 400, we didn’t get a complimentary dessert even though I saw other groups did. — We had a really fun time because we brought our own alcohol(called ahead and they let us) and got pretty tipsy and enjoyed each others company and conversation. If it wasn’t for the good company and alcohol the experience would have been mediocre at best. THISPLACE needs to hire more WAITERS on SATURDAYS …

This review is for dinner The restaurant is fairly large and it’s kept up relatively well so it’s not dingy. The service was spotty as our waitress seemed completely clueless and angry at life… but all the other servers seemed to be ok… The food was good but not amazing. It’s a hit or miss situation where some of the dishes were meh and others were good. There are tons of Chinese restaurants in Vancouver so i’d say this place is a worth a try but probably not good enough to be put into regular rotation

My in laws like to come here as its close to their residence. Average Dim Sum laced with tons of MSG. Prices are very reasonable. Dinner prices are not as economical as lunch, one of the special dishes is the Chinese style German Ham Hock with super crunchy skin. They charge over $ 23 for the Daily Soup, which is very expensive for Lotus Root, Dried Octopus and Pork Bones Soup. We also ordered the Beef Brisket Hot Pot and they gave us the Mixed Beef Offal Pot, it tasted like left over Beef Honeycomb Stomach, Beef Tripe with some raw White Turnip. Décor is catered for Mainlanders with lots of heavy ornate furniture and large TVs. Service is good. Plenty of parking at the lot in front.

I like this place for take out. — Friendly staff — Menu with pictures. — Reasonable prices. — Good portion size. I drive by frequently so I would always order for pickup. I will give sit down dim sum a try one day.

service: slow… mega slow in ours case. We went for dim sum and the place wasnt even that busy but the food came real slow. food: avg, good~ the egg tart was a white cream color instead of the typical yellow, that threw me off. they have durian dessert for the brave ones. the best dish is probably the chicken feet dish that we never got! so sad they totally forgot to cook it for us and we ended up cancelling that order. interior: very nice, although a little crammed. overall: not bad~ wished the service was faster

Average quality dim sum. I found the portions to have slightly shrunk over time but still I come back to eat here once in awhile. They changed their discount policy. It used to be 20% off on weekdays but now it is 10% off and no tea sitting fee. Took my family out for dim sum during the weekend and they gave us some raw deep fried spring rolls! The server took what was left of the dish(one spring roll was already eaten) and informed us it was not cooked. She took the dish to be recooked. We did not get a new dish but same spring rolls back. The refried rolls were not as crispy anymore. We did not get a discount for that mistake. Luckily, no one got sick from the raw food. Now when it came to paying the bill, the manager punched in $ 60 rather than $ 40 on the credit card machine. If I had not been paying attention, I would have given a too generous of a tip for okay service and food. Please pay attention when paying and not be talking to people!

«Dim sum is food for the Asian Soul!» There are a lot of dim sum places in Burnaby, and having this many options makes it pretty hard for me to tell you whats good or bad without comparing it to other places I’ve had. Of course when making such comparisons, I would keep in mind about costs and menu options, but for those of you that go for dim sum often enough clearly know that local chinese restaurants and higher class ones are clearly on different levels. So with that out of the way… Here’s what I have to say. Golden Lake is a place that has been in this location for a long time. Of course not under the same name. This place has been renovated and renamed more times then I can keep track of, but each time, the same couple things hold true. The parking around the area is not the best. Never turn into the parking lot unless you’re having a very lucky day. The odds are you’ll simply be stuck in the small parking lot waiting for people to get out of the way and for you to get back on Hastings as quickly as possible. The second is the the space in here is still pretty tight. Chinese restaurants always maximize space. They are the masters of it, so be prepared to feel a little cramped. As for food… it’s alright. I don’t know how to be more simple than that. Our family always over orders. We love to eat and one of my folks only gets Sunday off, so when it’s time for tea, we go all out. Which also means we get to try a lot of dishes. The Har Gow and Siu Mai is… mediocre. You’ll probably find better at Prince. The specialty dishes whether fried or baked is. decent. the noodles we ordered were a little hard. so in that I’d like to say Grand Dynasty is better. And as for desserts. I ordered the sponge cake and it was overly dry. but… I should have learnt the only good places for those is Chinatown bakeries. Lastly. service was pretty shoty. I’ve mentioned in other reviews that I don’t expect to be treated like royalty. But at the same time I don’t exactly like waiting forever for sauces, more hot water, and most importantly the bill. Of course I’ve had worse experiences and this is just average at best.

I hear all negative stuff. First of all, the food is great. 2nd — the service is pretty decent. One has to remember that this is not fine dining where you get the full attention of the wait staff. They wait staff are doing their absolute best. The prices are more expensive than the previous restaurant there, but with Chinese food, you get what you pay for. Even though one may think that prices maybe high, just think again when you dine out at a hotel, a place such as, Coast, or wherever else. You’ll find that even the most expensive Chinese food is a bargain. Just to conclude — I love eating there! Service has always been first class IMO. Wait staff is always accommodating. I have an infant and a toddler and they always make sure that there is ample room for them, as well as keeping them safe from hot food.

Sadly it always seems when I fall in love with a dim sum place they end up closing. I really hope this one doesn’t– now I only go to Golden Lake good location– parking on street and the lot(lot can be hectic warning!) THe food is always hot and delicious Good variety of food I dont eat meat so I am happy to report a ton of seafood options :) Servers are always friendly Owner and his son(i think) walk around check up how it is going and are very kind Only place I go now for dim sum– and I love it each time! Drooling just writing this one LOL

Get that sponge cake; either i didnt have it last time, but sure, is it ever cheap for dim sum, just $ 3, and lots of it too, look at the height ;) And they also installed a new real nice, big fish tank just for their fish, though i don’t think it’s for edible purposes, but sure nice to look at haha

We came here because it was closest to our hotel while visiting from Seattle. The service was definitely awesome. The servers were very entertaining. I was with a group of 10 and they did did more than their best to accommodate all our needs(10 different forms of payment). I am used to the dim sum being pushed around in carts as writing it down on the sheet is not as convenient. The dim sum was not the best that I’ve had but definitely good though. The only thing that hindered their business is the no stopping your order policy. My eyes are usually bigger than my stomach so I jotted down way too many dishes. As they were bringing out our food WE all wanted them to stop when we realized that I over ordered. I asked the friendly waitstaff to cancel the rest and he said it is against policy since it is made to order. We had enough food left over to feed our whole group for dinner and still had loads if leftover after our second meal. The price was not bad either. I will definitely return to golden lake next time I am in their neck of the wood.

Reccomanded by a friend & close to where I lived. Parking: * * * * in the front lot & on the street ‘free’ Décor: * * * kinda expensive but busy Seating: * * * tight space Service: * * * * friendly Food: * * * * fresh & delicious Fastness: * * I waited for more than 35 mins for our food(on a Sunday noon) Toilet: * * * clean but small Price: * * pretty pricey consider it’s location Overall: 3.5 Stars I learned that later if we go on the weekdays before 11 am(Mon — Thur), the dim sums are 20% off. But if you choose to go on Sundays, the traffic is crazy — longer wait & prepare to pay more for the same dishes. I might go back & try their dinner later if they are still around by then… *** I have tried their dinner last week(9÷18÷12), very impressed. Service is excellent, Food is good, Price very reasonable. The manager Peter is very accomodating. Yay! I’m a fan and will go there more often.
