As a chinese, I am super disappointed at this so called ‘chinese’ restaurant. The stir fried veggies had an odd bunch of raw veggies that somewhat resembled salad. The rice on the side were so rough and seemed undercooked. The fish congee we ordered had nearly no rice at all and seemed more like a bowl of soup. The fishes were frozen and seemed to have been added last minute.

This eatery on w10th was recently recommended by a friend as having some tasty ginger beef and I am a huge fan of the dish. I usually take my whole family all the way to Chong Qing on commercial and 12th St. but decided to head west this time and try the small but pleasant place. the food arrived very fast and fresh and the servings were also generous. The double fried ginger beef had just the right balance of sticky goodness and even ginger distribution throughout the whole dish. I was pleasantly surprised at General Tao’s chicken and its near perfection in proportional ingredient’s with sliced chilies. The bill for the 4 of us was just over 50 $ which is 15% less than a similar offering from the east side restaurant we have been supporting. We will definitely be returning!

Disappointing. Very disappointing. Greasy and made us feel uneasy after our delivery. Driver was rude.

Terrible. Ordered the flat noodle, pork and shrimp(hot). Was given a heaping mound of noodles with a few grams of meat. And barely spicy. This is the second time I’ve been here and I don’t foresee a third time

I think I know good Asian food when I eat it, so when I tell you that this restaurant was the worst I’ve been to in a while, you should trust me. My husband is an Asian food-obsessed foodie and suggested this place as we didn’t want to drive far. He was very disappointed with everything. The flavours and textures were just all wrong. When the hot n sour soup with noodles came, I couldn’t eat it nor have it near my nose. This from a gal that can eat anything. My son’s side of rice was«old». The steamed wontons in chili sauce were vile and tasteless. There were only massive chunks of bell peppers in the Buddha veg dish, in a soupy rice noodle mess, and the sweet n sour pork that my son loves tasted strange and he had to ask for more sauce. The waitress was absolutely uninterested from the getgo and seemed careless. I will NEVER go to this neighbourhood restaurant again.

This is the only place we order Chinese from. The service, whether in-house, on the phone or delivered is always really friendly and helpful. The food tastes fresh, good portions and never makes us feel sick after. We love: deep fried peppery squid, dai-ching chicken, deluxe veg chow mein, ginger beef, wonton soup. The food tastes better in house though. We find the styrafoam containers take away the crispness of the squid.

My quest for good bad Chinese takeout continues. This place isn’t amazing or refined, but it’s solid. The things I tried had fresh ingredients, weren’t too greasy and were a good price. I particularly liked the garlic chili eggplant. I always ask them to make things spicy when I order because they can be a little bland otherwise. The only thing I wouldn’t order again was the dumplings — the wrappers were too thick and gummy.

The restaurant looked rather quaint and neat on the outside, and I thought it might be a good idea to check this place out… went there on a Saturday afternoon, tried out their super special lunch special(which is about $ 5 I think) … I thought the noodle soup(preserved veg and shredded meat) would be a good idea, but when I received it… it looked really bad. It looked like instant noodles. And then as I ate it, I figured out that they probably reused the chow-mien noodles for this dish. Icks. Could not finish that because the soup was really bland… The waitress seemed rather bored… and didn’t seem like she cared so much about her job. I watched her as she cleaned up the stuff… she dropped some cups on the floor, and I was really hoping that she brought it to the back to wash it, instead of placing it on the table… I am only giving this place 2-stars because of the location and cheap price. I miss Chin-Ho restaurant(which used to be right across the street) – too bad, the landlords took over the Chin Ho space. Maybe I will come back here if I am really broke and I need cheap Chinese food to contain my hunger.

Was not super impressed with this place. Only came once for takeout. First off, the lady got my order wrong, despite me telling her the name and item number of what I wanted. I ordered the prawn in black bean sauce chow mein, instead I just got prawns in black bean sauce with onions and peppers. I noticed the price was more than expected, but I just figured they increased their prices without notice(as Chinese restaurants tend to do). Once I brought my food home, I noticed why it was over charged… The dish itself was ok, but nothing great. And there were waaayyyy too many largely cut peppers! Seriously, like 2″ squares of green and red peppers! I ordered some vegetarian spring rolls and I was literally squeezing the oil out! Gross. After having the food, I realized $ 25 including tax and tip was way too much to pay for 1 prawn dish and 3 spring rolls! And I felt pretty gross afterwards. Sorry, but I won’t be returning.

Lunch special is pieces of veg and meat, battered and deep fried. Each dish was a different flavour of super sweet, jellylike sauce covering everything. Tastes like sugar syrup and rice. First impression is the last impression. Bye ginger chili

We ordered delivery from this location for about 8 people. The food delivery was fast. The quality of the food is so so, probably greasy and not very rich on contents. The worse part was that they delivered wrong orders, e.g., chicken instead of prawn.

The food would be a 4, but the service, décor & lack of an adequate wine list downgrades it. I had a spicy chicken dish that was delicious. However, my dining partner ordered a very mediocre scallop and prawn dish. I like how they brought us rice in a tiffin. Our waitress’s english was quite weak, but the owner or manager came over to heap. We appreciated that gesture.

Ginger & Chili was maybe some of the best chinese food we have had! We order the same food most the time. BBQ duck and BBQ pork was delicious… very little fat which you don’t see much. I asked for a recommendation of a dish. Ginger chili beef was amazing. Quality of the food is top line. It was super fast service and after received a follow up call… I highly recommend Ginger & Chili Szechuan Cuisine!!!

If you are looking for amazing Chinese food near UBC, this might be it. I love their speedy delivery(and unforgettable phone number: 604−222−2223) and excellent food(check previous review) so I decided to try dining-in for the first time. I was really impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant and the good lighting(not too bright, not dark) and overall calm atmosphere. I love how its in Point Grey, where it is so relaxed and quiet even during weekends. Lunch is about $ 9, which includes rice, wonton soup or sweet and sour soup or spring rolls. The squid curry and shrimp with vegetables were not at all greasy nor heavy which was perfect for lunch. Vegetables tasted very fresh and to my surprise didn’t taste so westernized. However, the sweet and sour soup I had leaned more towards the western side(because of its sweetness) So, I’d say it is a hit or miss since some dishes may be more westernized than others, but I don’t have a problem with it so it was great. Try their dim sum dishes! I had their turnip pastry and it was delicious!($ 4 for 3) Overall an excellent place to have a quick hot meal.

On my continuing quest for GB that comes close to the late, Great Wok I went here today for lunch to try their Ginger beef. The dining room décor is what you’d expect; hand written signs, the pink tablecloths, black laquer chairs, but clean and uncluttered. My co-worker and I both ordered the House platter wnich comes with ginger beef, cup of wonton soup with 2 wontons, green salad, white rice, and green tea. Wontons were tasty, broth average. The mains arrived with plates heaped high with GB, rice, and salad. The GB was a step in the right direction with a semi-crunchy shell and nice tangy sauce, yummy, but not quite there… maybe I’ve got this Great Wok GB on a pedestal! I’d give 5 stars for value(lunch for 2 for $ 20 tax/tip in), 4 for flavor, 4 for service

Delicious food!!! My boss ordered dinner from here for all of us and everything was really tasty. I don’t imagine it was too expensive and it’s super close to UBC which is a plus(for us)! My favourites were ginger beef, sweet and sour prawns, egg rolls, chow mein noodles… I will have to update my review to make it more useful when I order from there myself.
