Not working out the last few times. Food not hot. Soup too cold. Too much flavour in the soup like they added too much mix. Just not going back for a while.

Ordered the buta-mayo don(pork mayo on rice). Pros: Great place for a quick bite. Cons: Standard«fast food» joint, so don’t expect amazing service.

3.5STARS We were grabbing food on the way back to our hotel when the roommate decided he also wanted a beef bowl. We stopped in on Saturday, January 16th around 8:30pm to grab takeout. The roommate got the Gyu don: beef toro($ 7.50). I took a couple bites of it. The beef was tender and the rice cooked well, but it didn’t have much flavor. It needed more sauce. We added some shichimi to the bowl to give it a little kick. Great customer service which is why I’m rounding up to 4 stars. The girl at the cash register was super sweet.

This place is a gem in West End. Must try: Buta Kim Don — you can ask for spicy or mild. Katsu Curry The portions were generous and the taste was authentic. Service was very true to Japanese hospitality with all the workers speaking in Japanese, screaming orders in Japanese back to the kitchen. We loved the pickle station with 3 – 4 varieties of Japanese pickles. It was a great compliment to our food.

Yum ramen on a cold night. Found a table with the kids. They even ate the shoyu beef one. The girl and I shared the miso kimchee one. Yum, huge bowls of steamy goodness. Chewy noodles and rich warm broth! Kind and helpful staff.

I have been on a quest in Portland, OR to find the best bowl of ramen noodles… I came to Vancouver not realizing that one bowl here would make all my searching for naught… from now on, when I want ramen… I’ll just come to Vancouver… so many ramen shops… and honestly, I don’t know which is your worst and which is your best… but honestly, the bowl of Yakiniku that I had at Donburiya may be the best bowl of ramen I’ve ever had… the shoyu broth was rich and sweet… the fatty, thin slices of beef were tasty and the peppery onions and cabbage accented the chewy, fresh noodles. Not only were the noodles tasty but the price and serving size made these even more of a logical place to come for you to come and get your ramen fix… at least you won’t have a long drive from Portland to enjoy these noodles!

I forgot what Ramen we got but it sure was good after walking through the streets in the cold weather. A bit small for our body type but we made it work lol

Had a late lunch here yesterday with a friend before the Whitecaps game. We arrived right on time for their happy hour which meant 20% off their rice bowls. The place was almost full when we entered and so we sat near the front right by the cash register. I wouldn’t recommend doing the same — we had our space invaded by people getting take-away several times. I ordered the chicken bowl and he had the beef. As you can see from the photo, it consists of a few pieces of chicken atop some lettuce and rice. They have some kind of sauce mixed in which made it more palatable. The chicken wasn’t bad, but wasn’t as good as the beef in terms of flavour. There wasn’t much chicken or beef in either dish — perhaps a half-dozen pieces of chicken in my bowl. Still, the whole bowl was more than enough for a filling lunch. I’ve been here before about a year or so ago. I believe they’ve changed the table layout and the menu, and it’s now more expensive. It’s still more of a fast-food/take-out than a sit-down place — high turnover is their thing. The bowls we had were $ 8& $ 9 respectively, which I think is a bit much for such a basic dish. For ~$ 2 – 3 additional you can add more meat to your order, or upgrade it to a combo which includes salad or miso soup. With the discount, the price was just about right. Service was efficient, but not especially friendly. We were not offered or brought drinks at any time. The server looked a bit despondent when she took our orders — I think hoping that we would order more. Our food didn’t take longer than fifteen minutes. When she brought our bill, she had not taken the discount into consideration. Once we brought it up, it was corrected. I don’t think I’ll be back. Nothing special but you could do worse if you’re in a hurry.

Came here for lunch today, on a Thursday around 12:30pm. Thankfully it wasn’t too busy so there were tables free. It’s a rather small place so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s jam packed if I came during a lunch rush. I’ve been on a ramen binge lately. So today, I ordered the Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen which comes with pork broth, pork chashu, seasoned egg, kikurage, onion, green onion, and bonito flakes for $ 11.75 before taxes. I’m no ramen expert but I thought it was not bad, not foodgasmic, but will satisfy your cravings. It came with two pieces of chashu. Not sure if it justifies the price, don’t think it should really be more than $ 10 tops. I would probably come back if I’m hungry and in the area, but will try something else next time.

This is a nice spot to grab your japanese fix. Quick and easy, great customer service as always. The miso soup is average and I wouldn’t call the katsu curry a winner either. Their noodle meals are great specially during winter time. I would come back if I’m really running out of options.

I stop here for lunch from time to time. They mainly serve this unique rice bowls with fried meats. You garnish them with picked veggies and hot sauce. I like the # 3 served spicy: minced pork and tofu. I don’t think this place is for everyone, however. It’s a little different but good.

Donburiya means rice bowl(donburi) market(ya), and that is exactly what this little shop on Robson is. You’ll find close to 2 dozen different rice bowls & assorted snacks. I’m not going to claim culinary greatness or originality from this little shop, but my big ol’ family has grabbed some decent, quick, inexpensive meals from this place over the last few years. One caveat is the size of the place, which might hold 20 people at most. Maybe even less. We’ve seated a party of 6 here before, but it was a miracle. I recommend take out. Here’s a good place to get a fix if you enjoy things like tekkadon(tuna sashimi on rice), mabo-tofu(spicy pork & tofu on rice) or yakiniku(beef on rice). My daughters like the udon here as well. They have ramen, but with all the great ramen stands on Robson, we don’t go here for that. Prices are excellent — entrees run in the $ 8 to $ 10 range. There are even several items less than that! I rarely find myself disagreeing with Marc D., who is — in my mind — one of the best reviewers on Unilocal and one well-educated dude when it comes to food. Even liking this place a little better than he does feels strange, but if budget is an important part of your decision making process — Donburiya just might be the right stand for you.

We just happened upon this place. We came at the right time. Not many seats on the inside, but we were able to sit our party of 8. By the time we were done eating, there was a line of people waiting for a seat. My husband got the chicken teriyaki rice bowl. It was good. My son had the tofu rice bowl and he said«it was pretty good«. Stir fried beef Udon good, and kim chi ramen good(although a little spicy). Nothing was extraordinary, but everything had good flavor and was a good price. Portion sizes are large. My 2 kids could have shared one order of the stir fried Udon. I got the medium Ramen and could not finish the bowl. Wish they had a small.

Always wanted to try this place for Katsu curry. I was impressed by friendly and fast service and food was good. Pork cutlet was nicely fried in crispy texture with Tonkatsu sauce on top. It also came with rice and enough amount of curry sauce in it. Overall they should’ve omit the Tonkatsu sauce and it wouldn’t taste salty. They also have daikon and pickle on self serve counter for side dish.

We literally passed by and had no idea what we are getting into. Literally, hole in the wall. The girl who took our order speak no English. Had to repeat myself three times. Made sure it was a vegetarian! But oh boy I’m glad we stopped in for dinner. My vegetarian ramen was absolutely delicious! I wish we had this here in Arizona. The vegetarian patty was pretty good as well. Ahhh. I want to go back now. *sad face*

At first glance this place just seemed like an average ricebowl type place to me. But once I got my Chicken Teriyaki donburi bowl and took a bite it was instantly one of the best teriyaki bowls I’ve ever had. The sauce was light but tasty and that’s really important to have for a good teriyaki dish I feel like. The prices here are also pretty amazing, really good price for value and portion size. I also tried the katsu

On a sunny Sunday I was craving Ramen as had a cold and needed some comfort food so decided to give this place a try. I called and ordered take-away which took less than 10 minutes and that should’ve been my clue that the food wouldn’t be fresh:( I got a miso soup, which was just average, a chicken teriyaki ramen that was very watered down and a chicken Don which contained skinny pieces of chicken with lots of fat and not much flavour… do yourself a favour and skip this place as you’ll be glad you did!
