Food was meh and service was pretty shitty to even expect any tips. I don’t always say that and I’ve been to a good number of Chinese Restaurant to be able to say this. Was here for dinner and order a set menu for 4 for 128.00. The menu was suppose to include squab but they told us they were sold out and in replace they gave us half a chicken but they didn’t adjust the price. Doesn’t that sound odd considering chicken should be cheaper? Wasn’t too pleased with that already. Food itself wasn’t too pleasing either. One of our bowls tasted like dish water detergent, soup was kinda bland, lobster was kinda small, chicken tasted frozen(though they didn’t say what kind of chicken we were getting) and the red bean dessert was watery. The only good thing was the dried scallops and egg fried rice. Which had enough flavour and stuff. Service alone was not there. Aside from being greeted at the door and seated at a table that’s right where the A/C was. There were 13 tables occupied and 5 waiters there. You would that think that would be enough. But i overhead a waiter complain to the boss i believe about them having to run around serving and that they don’t have enough staff. If math serves me right, that’s 1 waiter to about 2 or 3 tables. I sure hope you can serve at least 2 – 3 tables at a time… Another thing was they forgot about our chicken and they didn’t even bother to refill our tea/water. When we wanted to pay for our bill. I waited for 10 mins and no one came by so i walk to the front counter to pay. When I was paying the boss asked for 10%. Now when were we ever obligated to tip? I understand that the waiters don’t get paid much and rely on tips but when service wasn’t there then why should I need to tip the 10%? I would say I’m a normal tipper for ok to awesome service. I do usually tip between 10% all the way to 25% if i get outstanding service. But this place doesn’t deserve it. I usually don’t expect too much from a Chinese restaurant. Like if they have good service and ok food I’ll come back or vice versa. But this place isn’t one i would say I’ll go back. I’ve actually been here like 5 years ago(not sure if it’s the same owner) and food was already kinda meh. Just thought i give it a second chance but that was even more disappointed.

I’ve been to TONS of dim sum joints in Canada and China and this place is pretty decent. We go there for dim sum and for dinner and they never disappoint! The food is flavourful, nicely presented and decent portions. Pricing is definitely better than other dim sum joints nearby. It is actually good that others don’t like this joint… that means I can actually get a seat without waiting. Lol…

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked in here: the outside looks a little worse for wear, and across the street the mall seemed to be attracting the bulk of the customers, but none-the-less we ventured this way and were glad we did! It’s surprisingly spacious inside, with plenty of tables that fill up quickly as the clock strikes noon. They’re good with reservations(that that make them don’t usually have to wait again when they arrive), and the food is delicious! We ordered: — deep fried taro dumplings — sesame glutinous rice dessert balls — spring garlic spring rolls — liver rice roll — xo fried turnip cake The taro dumplings and the rice balls were fantastic. The rice ball contains black sesame paste instead of the usual lotus seed paste, so it was a nice surprise. The spring roll was good as well but looked a bit on the small side. The rice roll had a heavy skin, so I wasn’t really impressed there. And the turnip cake was not very flavourful — it’s like they just deep fried turnip cake and then spooned some xo veggies on top. The price is decent, and the service is good. Overall this place is not bad for a dim sum visit. $ 30 for the two of us — and it was our first time venturing out to his neighbourhood for dim sum. We’ll try and go back to sample a few more things in the near future.

Although the restaurant sits in a mostly residential neighbourhood in the east side, it is popular among the locals and it gets busy for lunch even after 1:30pm on a week day. The dim sum menu offers items that are not usually found in other dim sum restaurants around town e.g. pan-fried clear rice noodles with pork jowl, deep fried shrimp cake coated with shredded taro. Service is prompt, dim sum dishes are hot and the stir-fry dishes are full of wok hei /wok chi.

I hate it when restaurants go downhill after a steady and seemingly well run business. I came here for a baby celebration banquet so there was a table of 6 tables. All our tables received a set menu of 10 items, but here are the items I wanted to make note of: The Crab Claws — the skin was not crispy even though they were suppose to be deep-fried. I suspect they were made in advance and reheated since the skin was soggy and chewy. The meat inside seem to have shrivelled up and the it did not taste fresh. The Lobster on Yee Noodles — extremely watery and tasteless. The lobster tasted fresh, but it looked like a soupy mess. The Baked Tapioca and Red Bean Dessert — too chewy and the tapioca at the bottom didn’t have enough sugar. It was tasteless and I only ate the top part where it was slightly sweeter. The Steamed Rockcod with Ginger and Green Onions — was steamed perfectly in my opinion. Not sure if it was a fluke, but I loved it.

Popped in on a Sunday for dim sum with a group of 8. We had reservations so avoided the wait at the door. Food wise the dim sum was pretty good — definitely not the best to be found in Vancouver — but better than most places. Being relatively new the place was clean but sadly there were no ladies pushing carts. The scallop dumplings were a memorable favourite, as were the egg tarts. Everyone left stuffed for $ 12 each. Not a bad option if you’re in the area.

The dim sum was slightly better than average, but for a restaurant in Vancouver there are definitely better options nearby. The underground parking lot is small and difficult to maneuver in.

I came here because I had a coupon from Red Pocket for half off the Peking Duck dinner. Caveat of the coupon was minimum 4 people in the reservation. So my party of 4 came. We had the duck of course plus their signature dish of steam tilapia on egg and the lotus root. Everything was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly. Even the supervisor/manager came over and asked me if it was my first time there. Décor is nice inside. Only thing is the washrooms aren’t the nicest I’ve been to but it seems standard for Chinese bathrooms to be derelict at times. All in all it was a good experience with good quality food. The bill came it about $ 80 for the 4 of us, minus the coupon it was about $ 55 ish. I will definitely be back!

What a way to celebrate a birthday with Peking duck 2 course for $ 17. My partner brought his mom, best friend, and me here to celebrate his mother’s birthday. In addition to the two course we also ordered a egg white/crab meat on broccoli, half a ginger rubbed steamed chicken, and a rice(half red sauce and half white sauce). The menu was the most interesting one I’ve ever read in a Chinese restaurant. First half of the menu was in pictures with dish name in Chinese printed neatly beside every photo with no price. The second half was more«normal»; there was Chinese and English translation with descriptions and prices. Duck skin with crêpe wraps came first. The duck was done well. Meat was juicy and fresh. Crepes were warm and soft. The green onions and sliced cucumbers were a bit dry but overall it was good. Second duck dish was diced up duck meat sautéed with diced water chestnuts, celeries, carrots etc. I enjoyed this dish a lot as it was not greasy or salty. The diced duck meats were significantly chopped bigger than the rest. Minor imperfections but no big deal. We wrapped the minced bits in fresh lettuce. It was refreshing. The egg white/crab meat with broccoli dish came next. I find it odd as according to the menu, this dish should contain deep fried soft tofu and none was found. Aside from the missing tofu, the dish was good. The crab didn’t taste fishy or as if they came from a can. Broccoli was cooked just right. The ginger rubbed chicken came. It was soft, tender, and moist but there was something about the taste that just turned me off. Perhaps it was the secret rub but I was just not a fan. My partner placed one of the best pieces on my plate but I couldn’t stomach it. As a supposed«free range chicken», the meat was on the soft side, as if the chicken was caged, but in a bigger pan. The rice dish was the last to arrive. I’ve never had a super good half and half(ketchup with sautéed onions and shredded pork vs. white sauce with shrimp and green peas) fried rice so there’s no bench mark to compare this dish with. We had red bean in soup and Asian biscuits as complementary dessert. The total bill came to $ 90 before tax before the Groupon and around $ 57 ish with the Groupon. We had quite a bit of leftovers to pack home. Food is decent. I’d recommend Peking duck here.

My honest rating towards this place is 3.5. Bing Sheng is one of the better dim sum places in the area for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The décor of the restaurant has a more oriental feel to it than a lot of other dim sum places. They got a wide variety of dim sum to choose from on their order sheet and a huge selections for tea. My go to tea for dim sum is Gook Po(Dried Chrysanthemum mixed with Puer tea). It taste good and has plenty of health benefits. It has been said that this tea is good for cooling internal heat and aiding digest of oily food. Some items on the menu are pretty much a hit and miss. The dishes I remember that tasted good was: Steamed prawn dumplings, stir fried rice roll in soya sauce, garlic prawn spring rolls, sui mai, steamed tripes, steamed tendons and beef stomach. And the ones I don‘t recommend getting are: sticky rice bun(bland), and beef stewed hotpot(bland). All the dishes came out piping hot, and the sizes for each dish were pretty generous. Services is average just like another dim sum restaurant, nothing spectacular. NOTE: Plenty of parking around the streets and if you‘re one of those unlucky ones that can’t find one, they have free underground parking.

We came to Bing Sheng on a friend’s recommendation. We looked the dinner so much that we came back for dim sum lunch. Here is a run down of what we liked and disliked about Bing Sheng. From our dinner experience, we liked the vast selection on their menu. There are good variety of beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and vegetable dishes. They had the roasted quail on special which was comparable to other«best» we have tried. Their signature, award-winning dish of streamed fresh tilapia on egg was very unique. Although their pricing is not the cheapest, the quality and taste of the food provided good value for the money paid. As a bonus, they showed the hockey game on their two large flat screen TV which provided for a great atmosphere. Watching a Canucks hockey game in a Chinese restaurant is not a norm! When we returned to Bing Sheng for dim sum lunch, we made a reservation knowing it will be busy. To our disappointment, we still had to wait for over 30 minutes to get a table. I guess such a wait is the norm for this place. Once we were seated, service was brisk. Our order was taken on a checklist sheet and was promptly served. However, our waiter did not come back to refill our tea or take away the empty dishes until we flagged him down. Again, this may be the norm for this busy place. However, I must say the dim sum dishes were one of the best I have tasted in years. I can easily forgive the lack of service with the incredible taste. I give Bing Sheng 4 stars only because of the shortcomings I experienced. This place can easily be a 5 star place. I will definitely return here and recommend it to friends.

Came here for dinner w/my parents-in-law. I couldn’t think of any good restaurant around this area. Food were quite salty! But the portion were huge! I would say with such reasonable price with portion, it’s ok. Quantity not quality of food. Food quite oily n msg.

For my area of dim sum eating, I have to rate this one the tops compared to the rest of the hood. Everytime I come here, the food is top notch, and maybe it is the stuff I order. Right across from First Avenue Market, this place used to house many types of restaurants, and I think finally they have one here in ‘Bing Sheng’ that will be staying. The parking situation of this place is the dark nasty underground parking(don’t go there) or parking along Renfrew Street! The restaurant itself may not look like much outside, but the inside has been done up as nicely as they could for a place like this. Comfortable seating, big tables, bright lights, and a sense of clean. This is not a kart pushing dim sum joint, so you will be getting the Chinese only, or English only ordering sheets, which means there is no cold dim sum plates floating around, as when you order is when they cook. The dim sum hours go right up till 3:00PM, and it empties out near 2, so if you do not like to battle it out with everyone else, try to go there later. The prices are standard for the type of food quality you are getting here, and it shows once it hits the table, hot and fresh is what you get. The XO pan fried turnip cake, and the spare ribs with rice rolls are really good here, along with other things. I have been here once for dinner, and the quality also shows during the night, so no need to be hesitant about stepping your foot into this place.

I enjoy going here for Dim Sum. Don’t come here before 1pm as you would have to wait in line for a while. They have the best chicken wings. The dishes are in the bigger size and you can tell that the quality is way better than No. 1. Most of the staff are really nice except for one guy who is always grumpy. If you order the wrong thing and you want to return it, they will not listen to you and say«sorry it’s been cooked/steamed». But if you get the manager then you’ll have a different story. The ambiance is alright. They always have infomercials playing on the TV or old Chinese films. They do not do carts which I prefer since I rather order my food. Their prices are on the higher side but not as high compare to other dim sum places in the west side and downtown. I’m a regular here.

Not sure how long this place has been there, but I’ve always just gone to the mall across the street. Parking is all along the street. It wasn’t bad at all, but it was a weekday after all. The décor isn’t bad, and had a bit of the authentic dirty feel. Nice chairs and carpeted floor. The turnip cake was a bit unusual in that it was served as deep fried squares. I actually thought it was agedashi tofu(I didn’t do the ordering). Much of the dimsum wasn’t as oily as many other places. This does make many of the items a bit bland(why do bad things have to taste so good), but for those who value their hearts, this is not bad thing. Many other places are too heavy on the seasonings/MSG. The fried squid did look peculiar as it looked like someone had opened a highlighter over it. But the pieces were large. Everything else tasted pretty standard. Oh, and the food came quickly which is always nice. They use those Scantron sheets. The items look around the $ 4 range, which is not the cheapest, but meh. I’m not sure if I’d be back anytime soon, but it’s a nice alternative to No.1 across the street.

Morning dim-sum comes with free Chinese newspaper. You’ll see mostly older gentlemen from the neighborhood sipping tea and reading newspaper. Dim sum is ok, not great but not bad either. For dinner they have a good steamed chicken pieces with a mixture of chinese herbs and susages.

I’ve eaten here twice and I was disappointed with the food. Very salty!!! The first time I came here was for dim sum and I was happy with the food. I don’t usually care about service when I’m at a Chinese restaurant or at any restaurant. It’s always so busy and they do their best to cater to everyone. I’ve basically learned to order quick and fast. Last night, I went again. This time it was for dinner. We never tried their dinner so my family and I gave it a try. The food came out instantly after we ordered. I could taste trouble once the first dish came out. It was salty. The next dish, same thing. Out of 7 dishes that we ordered, only one was not salty and that was the boiled watercress. A few at the table asked me why I stopped eating, «are you on a diet??». How can I eat anymore when the food is so salty! If I kept on eating, I might just end up with heartburn. Moments later after the conversation, my stomach began to hurt. So pretty much for the remainder of the dinner, I just sat quietly. I had a little bit of red bean dessert and it was so sweet. I had a spoonful and that was it. I gave the rest to my mom. This restaurant is needs a new chef or more people like me to tell them to ease up on the salt.

It’s a pretty new joint in the neighbourhood and much, much better than the competition across the street in No1. I HATE No1. Will have to Unilocal that later. This place is reasonably priced, definitely not a hole in the wall, and the dishes come out pretty fresh and decent sized. Service is not your typical crappy, Asian attitude. They’re definitely aiming for a higher end clientele in a predominantly working-class Chinese ‘hood. Like I said, it’s a nice alternative from everything close by!
