Pros: If you like a secluded pub and some good drinks along with a decent portion of food, this is your spot away from the Granville street chaos. Cons: need more staff for the weekends.

Update: Went for drinks. Beer selection is decent and service still friendly and attentive, even during a busy game night. Would recommend mainly for a pre or post game drink.

We had the bbq wings and the chicken and waffles. Wings were great… Nice and sweet. The waffles were great and the fried chicken was amazing! Loved it! Would’ve preferred if the kept the syrup on the side tho cuz it was a bit sweet… but overall… loved it!

I really didn’t like the food here, better off going to BP across the road. Wings were really dry and bland, service was mediocre.

While in Vancouver for a Foo Fighters concert we were looking for a place to get dinner and pre show drink. We stumbled onto this place thanks to Unilocal and it was awesome. The beer menu is small but they make it count. They offer pints or pitchers. Everything on the regular food menu looked awesome. We had poutine to start with. As a group we tried three different dishes and loved them all. Finally the service was great. In true Canadian fashion the waitress was friendly and eager to answer our questions. She got the food out quickly and checked up on us regularly.

Was enticed into Back Forty with the witty signs out front. I’m a sucker for good advertising laced with a bit of humor. There was a good a crowd sitting at the patio which helped it’s appeal. Good beers, which is all you should want at a bar I suppose, but I like to munch when I drink so good appetizers are really important to me; thus knocking this place down to a 3 instead of a 4. Don’t get the riblets. They’re dry and sad. Back to beer. We got what the daily special was and it was refreshing after a long walk around downtown. Big mugs with adorable mustaches. And topped the night off with tequila shots. But dang, shots are expensive in Vancouver. Just drink beer. Our waitress was delightful, willing to answer our questions and knew a lot about the alcohol they serve. The place had a great ambiance, with adorable signs and paintings.

We accidentally came across this little gem while walking & getting familiar with Yaletown. There was a pre-game crew at the bar when we arrived & you could tell they were very at-home here.(In the best of ways — like family). The people were kind & the service was awesome. I had the fried chicken sliders. And that sause they come with… yep, I’m liken’ my fingers now.

I can only imagine that this establishment chose it’s location on purpose and wanted to be near BC Place; however, it appears they don’t really want the business. A few times my friends and I have gone here because it’s «so convenient» but everyone we are treated like an annoyance because we don’t sit or stand exactly where«they» prefer. The drinks are horrible unless you order something from a bottle. The sangria is actually one of the worst things I have ever tasted. Overall… Don’t go. Spend your money somewhere a bit further away and add time for the walk to BC Place.

Sehr geile Sparerips, geiler Brotpudding zum Nachtisch und super nette Kellnerinnen, dazu kühles Bier und Sport im Fernsehen. Top Laden, gibt nichts zu meckern.

Everything was awesome: pork ribs, chicken wings(they had special, .35 for a wing), honey lager beer, and service.

Came in for a World Cup game, it was pretty busy. Our server, Christine, handled our table wonderfully. She split our checks at the end, for the 5 of us & they were all perfect. All of us had nothing but great things to say about her. As for the food, all in all was very good, a little under seasoned but nothing that couldn’t be fixed with salt & pepper.

Ahhh… just post work. Looking to watch a hockey game on a screen. Wife is thinking Vietnamese… I’m thinking most Vietnamese restaurants don’t have TVs… we end up at Back Forty(home of many a different restaurant in the many years I’ve lived in Vancouver). Walked in… place is LOUD(capitals… because it was LOUD). Someone walked by the entry way and told us we could sit wherever we wanted. Sure… that sounds great. The place was pretty busy… we asked at a long table ½ filled if we could share the other end… no problem they said. And… we sat. and sat… no one came by(it was busy…) I was fine, I was watching the hockey game… the wife… not as fine with it. Eventually someone came over… and what a gem she was. Great server… great questions for finding a good enjoyment level for us… can’t stress enough how good the server was. Food wise… we started with a poutine… shoestring fries, gravy, cheese, and green onions on top. Wife(formerly from Montréal) wasn’t too impressed. If it isn’t a classic poutine… she’s not digging it. For mains… wife ordered chicken and waffles… I ordered pulled pork po’boy. The wife’s waffles were cold… like store bought opened package, put on plate… place heated in oven fried chicken on top of waffles… serve. My po’boy was a little better. not great, I’ve had better… MUCH better. Side was macaroni salad(fries was an option, but I just had poutine… coleslaw… it’s already on my po’boy… so mac salad it is). A little dry… a touch more mayo would have been nice… but not too bad. So… a solid 2 ½ stars, rounded up because of the great server. A repeat visit? Unlikely… I’ve had better bbq down the street at Memphis… and it wouldn’t have mattered if the game was on or not.

Was here earlier this evening. It was a Sunday night around 8pm and was empty, which was great because I wanted to be able to enjoy the conversation with my friend. Had beers, nachos, and flatbread with beef brisket. Nachos were not bad, the beef on the flatbread was rather subpar. Been here once before and I felt the food was around average. It’s located at a convenient location across from BC Place, has free parking, and I love their witty signs. Good place for drinks and if you’re in the area, but if you’re hungry and going for food, I would go elsewhere.

First off, compliments to my waitress. She was stellar! Friendly, efficient, fast. We had to be seated outside b/c they can’t accomodate more than 8 inside? Hmm. The outdoor seating was still tight! I liked the atmosphere, very casual and laid back. I ordered beer, which was good. The selection was descent enough. I had Carling and Kronenburg blanc. The food was just ok. Poutine wasn’t great. I don’t like small«McDonald’s» type fries used for my poutine. Also the gravy was meh too. I love loaded nachos, but these were anything but. Very light on cheese and toppings. It was alot of plain chips… dissapointing! The spinach dip was just ok too. This is a descent spot for drinks but not so much for food.

Smoky wings are fantastic! .35 wings on Thursday and the beer selection is mostly local craft beer. Bar staff was very friendly. Ask for Jordan at the bar she is knowledgeable about the local breweries that supply Back Forty

I would like to be able to review the food, the menu looked very good, but unfortunately the service was so terrible that we left without ordering. The hostess was very friendly, but we waited 20 minutes, and our waitress didn’t even take a drink order. Too busy socializing with another table.

After a bad, bad breakfast, my wife and I needed comfort food — the smoker-trailer out front let us know we were at the right place. Sausage Stuffed Jalapenos, Poutine, Chicken Po’boy, and a BLT with avocado. Every single bite we ate was so good, and we kept eating long after we were full. I like to consider myself a bit of a fried chicken connoisseur(so high-brow, I know), but this was a seriously impressive sandwich. Our server was adorable, as well, and made a great addition to the experience. We’ll be back.

Back Forty has been on our list for a while but unfortunately, it failed to impress. First of the all, the nachos were horrible. The chips were stale and the toppings weren’t very fresh at all. The poutine was very mediocre, while the wings were subpar. The mac and cheese was okay, but just tasted like something we could make at home. The best dish was probably the chicken and waffles, which we ended up re-ordering even though we didn’t finish everything else. The maple syrup perfectly complemented the crisp chicken, while the waffles soaked up all the syrup and oil, making it a delicious sticky mess. We enjoyed this a lot and without it, I would probably only give 2 stars.

Stopped in for lunch with business associates and had a good experience. Attentive service and tasty food. I had the buttermilk fried chicken in a basket with the soup as a side instead of fries. Came with a small taste of slaw and some hot sauce and a brown gravy for dipping. Companions had the pulled pork poor boy and the chicken sandwich. Everyone was happy. I’d been to Back Forty before and after hockey games and it is a lively place on game day. It’s worth a visit

An unpretentious, clean bar in downtown Vancouver with great service and yummy food! They smoke a lot of their food in house, and everything tastes fresh and home made. The chicken wings are smoked, not deep fried(be careful the hot flavour is extremely hot, but so yummy). Their salads are huge, fresh, a scrumptious mix of flavours and well presented. The poutine is pretty yummy too. They have Rock Creek Apple Cider on tap, and all sorts of beers and mixed drinks. The food/drink specials are usually a great deal. I’ve been here a few times, most recently for a group event I organized. I appreciated the staff’s help in determining times and securing tables, even though it was the night of a hockey game they were able to help me figure it out so our group was accommodated. Apparently it gets very busy right before hockey games at Rogers and then dies down right after that. The washrooms could use an upgrade, but they are ok. I love that this place is clean and comfortable, they have purse/jacket hangers underneath the tall tables and lots of TV’s for viewing sports. It’s an enjoyable atmosphere to spend a few hours with friends.
