THEIRCARROTCAKE truly is the best carrot cake I have ever eaten; and I consider myself to be a carrot cake connoisseur! The pieces are generous in size and are four layers tall, each layer being approximately 1 cm. Between each layer is an abundant amount of whipped, creamy cream cheese icing that is extra delicious when the cake is eaten at room temperature. Eating one piece in one sitting is only possible for true lovers of rich, sweet foods.

This little shop on Church street is a newly opened outpost of a much larger store in the posh Summerhill area. I’m a little torn as to what to think after two visits… it’s not clear exactly what they’re going for. They have a few baked goods, a case of deli/prepared items, and a cheese case. The other side of the store has a set of quite pricey gourmet food items like olive oils. For some reason, I feel rushed and uncomfortable browsing. I’ve had a couple of their baked goods: a scone and a ham and cheese croissant… both were tasty, slightly small, and just slightly less fresh-tasting than one might expect. I was all set to get a sandwich, but then noticed the prepared sandwiches sitting in the cold case were around $ 10…pretty pricey for nothing fancy. The first visit, I had a rather unfriendly guy helping me. The woman this last visit was perfectly pleasant. I think I’m going to give 3 stars right now and adjust after a few more visits.
