While I’m still not sure if this is one shop or two, Johnny Ruth & Living Planet made me ever so happy! You’ll be greeted by hilarious anti-Harper propaganda and fantastic Newfoundland-themed graphic tees that are legitimately cool and anything but touristy. From simple ‘Bayman’ or ‘Come From Away’ declarations, to stylized illustrations of the zany Rawlins Cross intersection, to an owl that says ‘what?’ instead of ‘who?’, I loved them all. I mean, Godzilla versus the Puffin? This is just really rad stuff in a really beautiful space. The rest of the shop is a fantastic mixed bag of unique products. There’s more refined fashions for both men and women along with ridiculously good gift shopping. Again, this is not a tourist trap so don’t expect too much in the way of coloured row houses, but there’s plenty of other goodies ready to catch your eye.
