Fantastic! Tasty! Great service! Lovely ambiance! We had a great night. Tandoori, saag, jalfrezi, naan. Recommend.

Best Indian food this side of the Atlantic! This place deserves notice! The setting balances relaxation, class, and intimacy. The food is very flavorful, not the dipped-in-sauce-after-cooking blandness that many people pass off as Indian cuisine. If you haven’t been, you simply must.

A little pricey for some things. The food is yummy! I recommend it if you love Indian food. I’m a big fan of Palak Paneer… Tandoori Tastes in Sudbury, Ontario(my hometown) has the best and it’s hard to compare… but India Gate makes a pretty good one! Mmm. Definitely going back for more. I also love the Gulab Jamun. They make it the way I like here(with syrup)! One place in town I went to didn’t have the syrup and I was bummed out, so I would definitely recommend the dessert here. Tasty! :D

Spice was good… food isnt the great quality for the price you pay. I am an Indian lives in Toronto, Just wanted to try Indian food in St Johns. Place probably is making of margin of 80−90% for the quality they serve. Service was great though. Ordered chicken kurma… Was little watery. Then ordered chicken biryani. Its not authentic biryani mixed curry and rice, and its very moist. Very disappointed with the price and quality I got for what we paid…

Myself and my parents went to India Gate for the first time last week. I am a vegan and my Mom is celiac(gluten-free). Our waitress was super knowledgable about the menu and what we could eat. We were three people, ordered the dinner for two, were stuffed, and even took some food home! I cannot say enough good things about the service and the food. Simply amazing.(They even did the Naan bread without butter for me!)

The food is good… Not spectacular, but still very good. Service is Top Notch. Nice atmosphere. Friendly and clean. Prices are actually half decent considering location — downtown. Decent wine and beer selection too! All in all, I will come back here again and I recommended you go too! Get some!

We went here for my friends birthday lunch, and had the buffet It was plentiful, lots to choose from, and quickly replenished I found the curries to all be a bit too spicy. but other than that, no complaints

Good food but zero value. This is a $$$$ not a $$ restaurant. Good tasting Indian food, comparable to Indian I’ve had in the San Francisco Bay Area. Decent selection of dishes and ok service. Had to ask for refills. The main thing is the food is good, however I’ve felt the pricing is excessive. I took 2 friends out for dinner, 3 entrees, 1 appetizer, 2 sides and 3 sodas and the bill came out to $ 150 pre tip. Basically double the price of pretty much any other Indian restaurant I’ve been to in North America. And that’s with no alcohol or seafood.

Excellent! One of my favorite restaurants in St. John’s. Compares with the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to in the U.S.

The food here is delicious — flavourful curries and delicious naan(you must try the garlic naan!). It really is the best Indian food in St. John’s, and they know it, which is why the prices are so high. We would go here more often if it wasn’t so dang expensive(i.e. $ 80 for two people). The owners should come up with a quick and inexpensive takeout special for two people — students and the general public would be happy and loyal forever!

I am from Vancouver and moved to St John ‘s one year ago and I could not believe how good the restaurants in the city are. India Gate honestly is as tasty or better than the best Indian food I’ve ordered in Vancouver. I’m aware that that doesn’t sound right but I stand by it! My partner and I usually get the the Saag lamb, Chicken Tikka labrador, and vegetable Korma. The restaurant ambiance is really cozy but if you are concerned about how much food you are getting you get about 1.5 times to food when you order take out. The dinner for two take out is the best value and you’ll have enough for two dinners. I hope you enjoy your time in St John’s! Other great places to eat are Piatto, Raymond’s, Basho, and Bacalao!

Really enjoyed our visit here during our vacation. The onion bhaji and pakoras were divine and the kids loved the chicken wings(beware, v. spicy!). The owner was extremely friendly and gracious; the manager not so much but it didn’t interfere with our good time.

Really like the food here. Awesome garlic naan, spicy curries(you’ve been warned), smooth lassi, and crunchy papadums. Like to come here mid-week for a dinner date with the hubby. It is expensive though. Still, when you are craving Indian, this seems to be the place to go. Boisterous take out.

A-OK Lovely Naan. Decent buffet. Can be pricy when you order a la carte, but what the hey, there isn’t that many options for Indian food in this town. Parking on street can be difficult at times. Friendly service.

As the name implies, Indian cuisine. Very good! Can get very busy and the wait staff isn’t the most attentive Kind of pricey :) :) :)

This is probably our favourite restaurant but it’s not without its flaws. — The food is too expensive. Upwards of 25 bucks each for Butter Chicken or Lamb Vindaloo is too high. — The service is OK but certainly isn’t stellar. Some of the staff are nice while others, not so much. — Some of the quality seems to have gone downhill in the past year. If there was a larger selection of Indian restaurants we’d probably look elsewhere but there aren’t many options here.

For the quality of food, this place is WAY over-priced. $ 16 for a standard vegetarian dish of poor quality. If this were a cheap, fast place I’d give it a lot more credit, but as is it really leaves a lot to be desired. Good points were friendly staff and pretty good coffee.

Best indian food I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to get back to St. Johns and have it again. My girl and I split the dinner for two, and a bottle of wine. We ordered chicken tikka, spicy lamb curry, chana masala, and samosas. All of it was amazing. I even woke up in the middle of the night craving it, and had to have some more. The service was excellent, very low key, and very helpful. I tried to come once before this to sample their lunch buffet, and they were to packed to accommodate us. Now I can see why. Indian Gate, I would give you six stars if I could. Don’t change a thing.
