Had Valentine’s dinner here, this is a Thai/Chinese restaurant. Even though it was incredibly busy service was fast, food was hot and great. Our water glass where kept full. We shares crispy spring rolls and cashew chicken and still took some home. Menu is quit large.

Absolutely loved it. Delicious. Fast service. Recommend. We had Tom Ka GAISOUP — DELICIOUS, green curry and flat noodle dish as well as green papaya salad. All were good, and house red was good as well.

After walking past this interesting looking Thai/Chinese restaurant countless numbers of times, I finally decided to give it a try. I went with a friend at around 7pm on a Tuesday and we were seated very fast. The service was fine, maybe a bit unattentive at times. We decided to share a traditional chicken green curry and a shrimp Pad Thai. Even though the Pad Thai was very tasty and just spicy enough, the dish was definitely lacking in shrimps as I struggled to find them. The star of the night however was hands down the curry. The spices had me sweating after only a few bites and it felt like flavours were punching me in the mouth, but in a good way. Portions are a bit small in my opinion but prices are fair. I would rate my experience a 4.5 but the fact this Thai/Chinese/Dim Sum restaurant did not offer free tea disturbed me a bit. Obviously not enough of a reason for me not to visit again.

My husband and I order from this place a lot! The Pad Thai and curries are consistently tasty. My favourite is the jungle curry or Penang curry. To top it all the service both for dine-in and take out are quick.

Stopped in here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. They had a good crowd. Went with the pad Thai, a true measure of the quality of any Thai restaurant. I really, really, really liked it. Did I mention I liked it? The only complaints I have are as follows: 1) A few of the crumbled peanuts nearly cost me a tooth. Not sure what happened there. 2) The server twice asked if we wanted dim sum. The answer the second time was the same as the first. «No thanks.» Not even sum. 3) The menu has more text than a Stephen King novel. Royal Thai: Be what you say you are. Thai. Drop this Chinese and Vietnamese nonsense you advertise out front and cut the menu by about 90%.

The food and service were good, but not amazing. Decent prices.

Great food! With a disclaimer as basic white girl, both my date and I really enjoyed our meals. Spring rolls tasted more fresh and«real ingredient» than typical spring rolls, and the pad Thai was excellent — flavourful, good ratio of noodle — protein — veg. Fast service too!

Service was so-so. They forgot about my coffee and they were rushing us so much, we felt like we were numbers instead of clients. We got their red curry, which was super rich and creamy, I definitely recommend it. My friend had pad Thai and she thought it lacked flavour.

This is my go-to place when I crave either Chinese or Thai food. I wouldnt say it’s the best place for asian food in town, but they offer wide variety menu, good food and brisk and attentive service. Usually it gets quite packed on weekends, however it’s quite spacious that it could accommodate well over 100ppl. On weekends, they serve dim-sums. I was a bit disappointed when they served siu-mai which was still half frozen inside. When I complained, the server took my entire plate back to the kitchen, microwaved it then brought the half bitten out siu mai. But dont get me wrong, I still love their dimsums. If it’s your first visit, I would recommend you to try their mapo-tofu, red curry, and/or chinese broccoli(gai lan).

Same review as before. The satays were a lot better. Service was good. But come on… you charge for asian tea!!!

This is very much your average Thai restaurant. Unfortunately, I don’t like eating at the average Thai restaurant. I had problems with the freshness of some of the vegetables and the tofu and the Pad Thai was very oily. Service is about average, nothing that stood out as good or bad. The décor was about average. I really don’t understand why the reviews are so positive… I kind of feel mislead by them!

Bright atmosphere, large menu, great food, and prompt service. And when I say«prompt service» I mean the waiter appeared and wouldn’t leave until I made a decision. He was charming, but it was like… «Go away and let me decide in peace,» lol.

I’ve been here a number of times now and keep going back. We have become regulars. + Nearly every dish I’ve had was terrific + Good location + Good prices + Constant water refills + Fortune cookies Highly recommend the Pa Nang(#48 Thai menu) with a side of rice. Note the first half of the menu is Thai, then the numbers re-start and it is Chinese. Other good dishes: Broccoli Beef, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew.

One of the best Asian food places in Ottawa! But what I was most blown away by was the service. I have never been to an Asian place where there is constantly 4+ servers running around pouring water for you and attending to your needs. Not only that, but one of the servers noticed that I was dying from the spiciness of the pad thai(the spiciness ranges from 1 – 5, I got a 4 and cannot imagine what a 5 would be like) and got me a glass of cold lychee juice! How very observant and thoughtful of him! This kind of service I have never gotten anywhere, especially at an Asian restaurant. The servers are really funny too. 5 stars for excellent service and great food

Being originally from Toronto I’ve had A LOT of good asian food but this place is right up there — definitely the best I’ve had in Ottawa. I’ve been here 3 times and everything I’ve ordered has turned out to be delicious. Price is right, service is quick and location is great — right near the market. Seriously how could you not like this place?

My wife was having a craving for Thai Food & Royal Thai was right around the corner so we stopped in. We’ve been back 4 times in the last week. To break down my thought… The atmosphere– it looks like a fancy place but people dress very casual to eat here. The servers are dressed nicely. 4⁄5 The food– the food is pretty darn good here. I can only have 2 things on the menu but they’re delicious. The portions are an ok size. Enough for one person but I highly doubt you’ll have leftovers. I’ve noticed you get more food when you order take out. The service– I really like the service here. The first time I came it wasn’t the friendliest but every time after that it’s been fine. They’re very attentive and polite. They always seem to have like 5 times more people then needed on staff but I think that’s the reason why everything is so well maintained. Overall I will be coming back & would recommend that you check it out.

Royal Thai is delicious! The inside is more romantic, and classy, so if you want to dress up for your date night, you won’t feel out of place! If you just feel like eating some delicious Thai food with some friends, it’s the right place for you as well! There is always one specific waiter who seems to be there all the time, he is very friendly, he loves to talk about his life, and give you some great recommendations about what you should order! The pad thai, sweet and sour chicken and the green curry with chicken are truly fantastic! I really love the combination of flavours that they use, the food is so tasty! I’ve traveled a lot through Southeast Asia, and tasted a lot of exotic dishes in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines and I have to say I’m quite impressed with the quality of food at this little Ottawa restaurant! This is one of my go-to restaurants when I’m reminiscing about my travels, or if I’m simply craving some delicious food! I highly recommend Royal Thai!

Good option for Dim Sum(of the circulating trolley variety) in Ottawa’s Byward Market area. Prices reasonable, service good.

My wife and I love this place and consider it our favorite Thai restaurant in Ottawa. The chicken satay is always perfectly cooked(tender with a nice flavour to it). The No. 55 cashew chicken with chilis is delicious too. If you like slightly quirky restaurants, the servers don’t seem to be assigned to a specific area in the restaurant. The result is that you may see four waiters during the same visit: one takes your drink order; another takes your meal order; one checks on you after you’ve started eating; and one gets you your bill. But the funny guy with the glasses will always make sure your needs are met. It’s casual. It’s relaxed. It’s not expensive. It’s a staple to which we keep eventually returning.
