Middle Eastern desserts… They are just so delicious! And La Brioche is definitely where it’s at! You walk in and are completely mesmerized by the vast amount and variety of deliciousness and I’m hitting pretty close to having tried them all. There isn’t a bad pastry in there! I recommend this place to everyone I know, it’s especially great if you’re going to someone’s house for dinner and you want to bring something. You go in tell them what you want to spend and they pack a delicious tray for you. You always gets a lot for your money here as well!

There was an amazing variety of sweets here — huge platters filled with all different kinds of pastries. To my non-discerning eye, the main variants were the types of nuts contained and the shape of the dough. Some seemed to have cream. The proprietor seemed ok with us just getting a few items on a tray — sometimes I feel bad ordering individual goods when they are sold by the pound, but it seemed ok here. As far as I could tell, there was no brioche, despite the name. Amanda D.‘s right, the broken bits trays seem like a good way to get a lot for a small price!

This place is probably the mecca of Middle Eastern desserts in Ottawa. You walk in and see the long counter covered with large baking pans holding a sea of phyllo pastries in every shape, size and flavour. Pastries in triangles, squares, fingers, and nests, with cashews, pistachios, and walnuts — oh my! Baklava is only the tip of the iceberg. You’ll find the sweet semolina pastries I had in Egypt(basbousa), custard pastries(Greek galaktoboureko), even shells stuffed with a creamy unsweet cottage-like cheese. I can never control myself and order just one piece. Luckily, if you buy 6 pastries, they don’t charge tax. They have a whole other case of cookies and a second fridge full of decorated cakes. I have never tried those, because frankly, they don’t look that good. Their specialty is pastries, and for that they are the centre of all that is buttery, nutty, and drenched in honey. Drool.
