Zazou Salon and Academy

One of the cooler salons on the North Shore. I’ve been going there since they were in their old location over by the Dairy Queen. Their present location is an easy place to get to, nicely furbished, and the stylists all young, hip and creative. Find a favourite that «gets» you and your style and you can’t go wrong!

I decided to treat myself last year and cut my long hair off and get it straightened. The cut was good and the relaxer left me quite satisfied, despite the $ 250 bill. I went back and found out that I didn’t get the first cut discount I should have been offered, and got peddled lots of product to buy that was not good (for my hair). I went back for the second relaxing treatment for my roots and they set my hair slicking it to my head, and did all of my hair not just the roots, and when I questioned why they were slicking it to my head I got a curt response «was it ok last time». My hair was bent at the roots, and the when she cut it she added tons of layers, which I never asked for and hated. I switched hair dressers and am getting a consistently better cut at a fraction of the price. I just asked one of their experts about redoing my roots now that they’re growing out and she said that what I thought was a bend is actually a burn where they over processed it and if she tried anything all my hair would fall off. I tried calling a couple times to give the salon a chance to try to fix this and keep getting put on ignore when I call. I suggest saving yourself a ton of money and your hair and looking around. I love Talio, have sent a few people there and they’re very happy, and would never recommend Zazou after this.
Update: my hair continues to break where it was burnt.

My new favourite place to get my hair died. I go to Natasha and she is a whiz kid. She absolutely nailed it!

Woo! I was in desperate need of a cut/​colour and I needed it ASAP, so I called in asked who would be good at doing a funky short/​colourful do for me and they recommended Shaun. Being my first time here I was confident but also a little nervous because I was trying to get from black to bright red and almost no idea what I wanted as far as a cut goes. Shaun was really heckin’ cool and he did an incredible job. the colour is better than i couldve imagined and ive gotten soo many compliments, I loove it. the salon is a tad on the pricey side but having wacky hair like mine done so well comes at a price and i have no problem paying for the quality.
Anyways i couldnt be more happy with my hair and this gorgeous salon.

Just moved to north van and went here to get a roots touch up and hair treatment.
Chelsea got my hair colour EXACT. I was amazed as it’s a mid ginger and pretty hard to match. I was sooo impressed and very happy. They are all really friendly and I felt welcome as soon as I walked in and not intimidated (which was a nice surprise).
I’m not giving it a 5 as it did feel a little messy in the salon space and I wasn’t impressed with the moisturizing hair treatment I had. I couldn’t tell the difference.
I’m use to the Kerestase one which leaves your hair feeling like satin, so I would skip that if I were you and save your $.
I will go back to Chelsea from now on as i felt happy walking out of there :)

For years I would go place to place trying to find the Right stylist that best suits me. My boyfriend told me about Zazou when we first met and ever since then, I’ve been in love with their service for over 2 years!
Great staff, so caring and understanding. They go above and beyond to perfect each haircut that I’ve wanted. My regular hair stylist is Tessa, she is just a doll and sweetheart! I recommend her talent to anyone and everyone! If you get your hair done by her, please let her know that Katelyn sent you ;)
I also get my brows waxed there and every single time they have been just Perfect! I don’t have a single complaint about Zazou’s services.

A great hair cut is hard to come by but I am super pleased with the cut I just got from Natasha at Zazou! Very clean, technically beautiful, soft and pretty. I have long hair and to find someone so close to home who can cut such perfect bangs makes me a happy girl. Most important and impressive is that Natasha listened to exactly what I was asking for and didn’t stop until it was perfect going slowly to make sure she didn’t take to much off so that it was exactly what I wanted. Thank you Natasha, I’ll be back!
Furthermore the salon itself is gorgeous… I really high end salon tucked away in the north shore mountains in my Lynn Valley neighborhood. Bruce thank you for creating and growing an amazing business in my hood!

Ok, so, I’m one of those people who hopped around from different stylist to stylist, from shop to shop, because I couldn’t manage to find the right fit for me; Zazou changed that for me. A friend reccomended them to me and I’ve never been so pleased with results. My stylist, Jackie, really listened to me and was honest in telling me her opinion. The stylists are artists, I tell you, ARTISTS. It’s totally worth the time and money — they’ll give you tea, coffee, or wine. I’m into it!

I’ve never personally been here but my wife goes and seems to quite love it. I am writing a review merely for the price range listed doesn’t seem to match what we’ve been paying. For a women’s cut and color it’s $ 150, that doesn’t seem to match the two dollar signs given it by others. I could be wrong but just so people know it’s going to be fairly pricey to go here.

So I was in desperate need of a new stylist, since where I’d been going before, I suddenly tired of playing phone tag… so I passed an eye-​catching billboard on the way up Mountain Hwy in North Van and called Zazou. I’m glad I did. Really. I had Natasha cut and style my hair, she listened to what I wanted, offered up some advice and ideas and I happily gave her creative control. The atmosphere was funky and laid back; not at all pretentious like some downtown salons can feel like.
They do spa treatments there as well, and a private curtained area for pedicures was off to the side as well.
The stylists range in experience (and price). I called this morning and took one of the last 2 remaining spots and Natasha was ore of a junior stylist I guess you could say, but she was far from inexperienced.
I’ll be back. Yeah.

I love that I can get a downtown salon and spa experience in North Vancouver. Zazou is hip and professional, yet down to earth. I’ve had my haircut, my eyebrows waxed, a pedicure, a massage, and a facial at Zazou and it was all fabulous. Zazou has spa specials each month, so check their website to see what’s new. Another great offer is that Zazou has a Refer-​a-​Friend discount where each time you refer a friend you get $ 20 towards your next spa visit and they get $ 20 off of theirs. Great salon. Fabulous atmosphere. I started going to Zazou when they were located in their previous locale across the street. It was small and cramped but even then it had a funky, trendy vibe about it. Now that they have all grown up and moved into this fabulous wide open space, that vibe is still there. You feel like you are in a chic downtown salon, except you look outside and you are surrounded by the mountain s of the North Shore.
When you walk in the salon they make you feel very welcome (not like some high end salons) and offer you a complimentary beverage (wine and scotch available!!). The stylists are all very nice and talented. Depending on the popularity of a stylist and their seniority the price of a cut and style will vary.
It is not a cheap (ie inexpensive) salon but I have discovered the hard way with hair… cheap hair cuts just do not work… unless its a buzz cut you are going for. I always leave feeling really good about my hair and that is the result of having a great stylist (Kim).
If you are in the market for a new salon and stylist, check this place out. You will likely be pleased with the results.
