A bonus star for opening EVERY day, now that’s consistency. Medium sized store that accepts Amex. Smirnoff in back wall freezer, nice touch, ready to go. No Remy Martin here, Hennessey available. Own parking lot beside. Nice guy with glasses.

The North Shore Liquor Shop is tucked away at a little strip mall in Lynn Valley. The store isn’t very large and won’t have the same inventory of larger stores, but the selection has always been fantastic for my purchases. Whether I’m getting some Hoegaarden for myself or Brava for the lads, they’ve got a good beer selection from cheap swill to expensive obscure craft beers. If they don’t have something, they’ll be happy to bring it in for you. I asked them to bring in Lost Coast’s Tangerine Wheat before BC Liquor was carrying it, and they had it in a week later. It also sold out in three days so it became a staple in their selection. What’s really nice about having these guys bring in a product that BCL doesn’t normally carry is that you’re not stuck with buying a case of something you’re wanting to try. So they carry the risk of the extra product and you pay a small stipend for alleviating it of yourself. I’m not much of a wine guy, so all I can tell is you is yes, they have a bunch. They also have a selection of liquor where I can find a suitable whisk(e)y. As far as pricing goes, it’s not cheaper than BC Liquor, but no private liquor store is. It’s the tax you pay for the convenience of buying from these locations, or for simply being ill prepared with your celebrating/drowning of sorrows. Of all the private liquor stores I’ve been to in North Van, North Shore Liquor Shop has the best non-BCL pricing. The staff are friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. They have great hours: 9am to 11pm, every day. Every. Day. Yes, that includes Christmas to avert those celebration disasters of extra guests and too little booze. If I’m buying any liquor for consumption at least four hours away, I will most likely go to BC Liquor. But if it’s a Sunday or holiday, or I need my beer cold now, NSLS gets my business. Even if it’s post partying from The Black Bear, I’ll go here instead of Black Bear off sales(I think it was a ridiculous $ 18 for a six pack of Sleemans the last time I made a purchase four or five years ago from their off sales). I’m a repeat customer here and will continue utilizing their services.
