Rockford Wok Bar Grill

Rockford as a very stylish design, very comfortable and warming staff.
I did find that their food is pretty generic. Very much reminds me or Earls or Moxie’s, with a twist of new plating.
They also don’t have too many options for Gluten Free customers…
Other then that, I would recommend them for a nice dinner out for 2 – 4 people, business meetings or even larger parties, but not for a fancy evening out.
Make sure to call about the menu if you have any allergies before heading in ;)

I’m hesitant to write a good review, because this place often seems empty– despite the amazing food and ambiance. Still, as much as I don’t want it to get busy, I have to share!
I’ve been here 5 times this month, and I have to say their food is excellent. The thai soup is amazing, and I have a cup of it every single time. The rest of the menu has varied, as I wanted to try different things. Price wise it’s a bit on the higher side… depending what you roder. THeir soup/​salad/​half sandwich special is only $ 12! At dinner! And very filling. And VERY tasty. Their other dishes are excellent, and huge in size.
The place is like a Cactus club/​Joeys inside, which isn’t a bad thing. Its very nice– great for a date, or a night out with friends. The service is impeccable– likly because it’s been slow over the holidays.
I would take family here to impress them, and with our bills averaging $ 100 for 4 people– it’s really a great deal for what you get.

This restaurant is incredibly generic, the food was fine and the service was reasonably quick, but it feels very similar to Cactus Club or Joey, neither of which offer experiences I’m particularly fond of. I ordered the blackened chicken salad and was disappointed to discover that it came with a heavy covering of tortilla chips not advertised on the menu, which is unfortunate as I don’t really care for taco salads most of the time and would definitely have asked that they be omitted if they were mentioned on the menu. I’m sure that a lot of people will absolutely love this restaurant, but it really isn’t for me.

Congrats to opening a great restaurant, great food, great atmosphere at a reasonable price. Management goes beyond call of duty to make sure everything is great (thank you Amy).

Aesthetically, the interior of this place is a Joey restaurant copycat. That might not be a bad thing, since that means it looks very modern, if a bit trendy. They have fairly decent drink specials too, which are cheaper than the Joey chain. And the service is pretty good, very attentive.
The problem is the food. I’m willing to give it another chance, as I’ve only tried two dishes from here, but so far not impressed. It tries to do a similar thing to Joey’s in terms of Asian fusion, but the taste is just not there. The Mongolian beef noodles I had was not flavourful, just super salty.
To be fair, they do have a guarantee advertised on their menu that if you don’t like something you can send it back. But why would I go through that when I could just go somewhere where the food is good to begin with?
One plus that I haven’t seen done anywhere else is that if you do take leftovers home they give you a nice black, reusable canvas bag. That is a cool way to get exposure for your restaurant, and it is perfectly lunch bag sized.
There are some good reviews, so I’m willing to give it another chance if I come by it again. There’s some good, some bad. So why the 2 star rating? Other than cheap drinks, Joeys just has more consistency, better food than Rockford Wok Bar. «Meh. I’ve experienced better.»

I lump in Rockford Wok Bar Grill in the same category of casual trendy dining places Cactus Club, Earls and Joey’s are trying to be. The fact that it has a Asian wok section of the menu appealed to me a bit.
The fact you can get a simple $ 4.00 glass of red or white wine all day is a good thing given how much a glass of wine does costs elsewhere. The food, however, was disappointing. My girlfriend has a lemon chicken stir fry dish that was bland and I had a Black Pepper Beef stir fry that bordered on burn the tongue spicy rather than being flavorful spicy. Our waitress mentioned these dishes were better than some Chinese take out place but I would disagree knowing I would pay more at this restaurant for what their idea of a trendy dining experience is to be.
The atmosphere within the restaurant was dark and even though we got to sit in a booth that in itself was a challenge to get in and out of. I would imagine having to work with a space at the end of a strip mall you cannot make miracles from. There was not a sense of warm and cozy there as you would get from other places.
I remember noting that In the same strip mall there was a Tim Hortons where I went after the meal for a donut or two for desert.
In the end, I found Rockford Wok Bar Grill to not be anything special worth returning for.

Congrats to the management staff — you made our time great. Food was consistently good with a safe menu with a few very cool dishes. Pleased everyone at the table. Cannot wait for my next meal.
Good to have a restaurant like this on the Shore.

The best prawn Tacos ever! We tried a fews of the plates to share and the food was excellent. A welcome new addition to the North Shore. It reminds me a little of PF Chang in the US.
Will definately go back for some more!

A truly asian fusion chain restaurant with a casual contemporary setting located along Marine on the North Shore. With a heavy asian influence, the dishes are sweeter and spicier than usual, making them highly flavourful and thus, I’d recommend sharing them as tapas rather than as individual meals — best for groups of girls.
— Spicy wok-​seared squid — ($ ¹¹⁄₈ pieces). Crispy & well-​seasoned. Recommend!
— Rocket seared tuna salad — ($ 15). Delicious & everything works perfectly. Highly Recommend!
— Strawberry Kiss ($ 6) — Good, but would be much better with some soda in it.
— Sliced sirloin steak baguette ($ 15) — My bro: «the horseradish cream makes it too sweet; it tasted like a burger for girls»
— BBQ ribs ($ 24) — interesting. Ribs were covered in Hoisin sauce, which made it very sweet. Better to be shared.
— Szechuan beef ($ 13) — Very spicy, well-​portioned, beef is breaded (tastes like popcorn chicken, but beef)

I don’t get the whole «fusion» thing, I think it might be restaurant speak for «I-don’t know-​what-​the-​hell-​we-​are». I had the $ 15 blue cheese hamburger, under cooked with like a good blue cheese salad dressing, but blue cheese should make you think of gym socks not salad, french fries were fine, my wife had a thing that they gave her chopsticks for, but overall the food was not memorable, it was nice to see what could be done with an old Burger King, but I would Rank Rockford as a new Earls/Cactus/Milestones/Joey’s Wannabe and the mediocre middle of the road dining experience is pretty crowded in this town. so if you want Meh this will do if you want better for not much more la Cuchina is right next door and their wine comes with a cork not a screw top

Food price is great, food quality is outstanding and the host and wait staff are friendly and eager to please. On my first experience at the Rockford wok bar and grill, I ordered a peanut chicken (which came with rice drizzled in sweet soy and a side of steamed/​seared seasoned vegetables). The food came out very quickly and was presented very well and as soon as my drink was empty my server was already bringing me a refill.
The décor of the restaurant is very new age chic and the music set a very cool and comfortable mood. Also, i was very pleased that they have $ 4 canadian, margerita and highball specials… Everyday! This is great news since i am a huge hockey fan and i love my beer. At a quick glance it looked liked they had an extremely diverse menu, from chicken wings to share with your pals while drinking some beer, to a delicious traditionally cooked wok dish. Overall a great experience. Highly recommended!

We’d been breathlessly awaiting the opening of Rockford, having seen the sign and «opening soon» status for many months. On a snowy Saturday, we finally got the chance to stop in for a late lunch.
The décor is dark and trendy with a lounge/​bar area on the left and a dining room on the right. Because it was still light out, we chose to sit on the dining room side and we got a large and comfortable booth by a big picture window. Unfortunately, the aforementioned snow combined with the single-​paned window made for a very cold and drafty placement. I used my jacket as a lap blanket for the duration of our stay.
I ordered the Buddha Bento Box (almond chicken, homemade ramen soup, salad, jasmine rice & tempura green beans) for $ 10 off their specials sheet. My boyfriend ordered a burger and fries (my apologies, I was too cold to pay attention to which burger he ordered).
Our lovely, if underdressed for the season, waitress informed us of their «Love at First Bite» guarantee: if, for any reason, you don’t love your meal at first bite, they will fix or replace it for you. At first glance, this is a great idea and I wish all restaurants would be so willing to accommodate; but, then I thought, shouldn’t that just be standard practice? I digress…
Our meals came out quickly and my bento box looked lovely. Until I saw the feta cheese on the salad. As a picky eater, I’d always hope that feta would be an ingredient they’d mention on the menu. Then, I noticed the almond chicken was covered in a strange sauce. Upon tasting, it was proved to be a highly buttery sauce with absolutely nothing almond about it. Being too cold and too hungry to wait for any replacements, I worked around these issues and tucked into what was left.
The «home made» ramen was excellent. A perfect mix of flavours and not so salty you wish for a pitcher of water to rinse it down with. The tempura green beans were fantastic! I don’t know what they put in that batter, but they were light and crisp and very flavourful. I dug around the feta cheese on the salad and found a nice mix of greens, dried cranberries & sweet almond clusters in a lovely light vinaigrette. It was a shame about that awful butter sauce on the chicken as the one un-​drenched piece was quiet lovely on its own.
The boyfriend’s burger was drippy with juices & sauces and his fries, while cut from real, fresh potatoes, were under-​seasoned and a little wilty. He reported it was a perfectly serviceable burger, but nothing to write home about.
Overall, it wasn’t the best experience. It would be a good enough place to go with a group of people (on a non-winter’s night), but I’m not sold on it becoming a regular haunt.
