Rivers reach menu is basically cactus club quality. It’s like the best restaurant I’ve been to in new west but its in a pub setting. I almost always get the mushroom caps and the steak. The mushroom caps have so much cheese that I have half of it left over and then I eat it mixed with my potatoes. I can’t not order them. The steak is always done really well and a great cut. Other things I’ve had are the lamb shank, jambalaya(super spicy!), and the nachos. All good! I recommend the quay lime pie martini for half of your daily calories. You won’t regret it.

We have been here many times and the food is always amazing. However, the last two times we have been here the service has been absolutely terrible. Both times our server never checked on us. Never filled our water or beverages. I have an allergy and ordered a wrap. When it came I had a question about it. I had to get up and ask a waitress who NEVER came back with an answer. I asked another waitress after twenty minutes of my food sitting in front of me and me not eating. The second time we were one of four tables in the restaurant. We waited over a half hour for our meals. A couple came in twenty minutes after we had ordered and got their food before us. I have never had such terrible service. We used to love this place, but now I do not think we will be returning.

My husband and I have been visiting this great neighbourhood pub/restaurant for many years. Over the years, we have received consistent, friendly, fun service and reliably delicious and reasonably priced food! This spot is a real gem in New Westminster and even if we were to move further away it would be well worth the drive! Let me add that despite it’s title, this spot is more than a pub. When I think about a pub atmosphere my mind immediately conjures up thoughts of drunk people and loud music. While The River’s Reach is a pub, there is a far more restaurant type of feel. I would have no qualms bringing anyone here and being proud of my choice. With a warm, inviting atmosphere my husband and I frequently pop in for a bite and stay longer than expected because we enjoy it so much — and we don’t even drink. :) Last note, many of the reviews I breezed through on here about this place were posted in advance of their new menu, so let me add that The River’s Reach new menu is fabulous! When we first heard there was going to be some changes we hesitated for a week or so before returning, but when we did, boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The new additions are awesome and while I didn’t miss them before, I would certainly miss them now if they were discontinued! Whether you live in the neighbourhood or have to commute a bit, take a little time to explore The River’s Reach Pub and see for yourself what has become our local addiction! Madelena

I was a fan of this place for over 7 years. But they recently made some changes which resulted in a terrible experience. I will never return. I visited with a friend on Feb 28th had the server Nicole. My friend is hypoglycemic/diabetic and we arrived before the lunch rush, so the restaurant was fairly clear. Nicole waited 10 minutes to get our order. We saw a 14 top come in and realized we wanted our order in before they slammed the kitchen, and we let her know this and purposely ordered menu items that should be 10 minutes or less. 35 minutes later, after we saw the 14 top get their order, my friend was starting to have complications due to her hypoglycemia, we let Nicole know and she brought out part of our order. We waited an additional 10 minutes before the rest of the order came out. We had burgers & sandwiches and«be careful, the plates are hot»: yes and the buns were dry and the vegetables wilted. We had let Nicole know we were displeased. But when we got the bill, it was $ 44 for a 75 minute service. By this time the place was slammed and she couldn’t wait to get us out fast enough. It was my favorite place to go and I would take friends and clients there, but never again.

My favourite bar in the whole area! Great service from bartenders, waitresses are always smiling and they have the best value for the menu. Pizza specials on Saturday, good selection of beers, I also tried tacos, stake and lamb souvlaki… yumm! It’s a good atmosphere too, not too noisy and the crowd is neat.

As a regular customer, I’d like to give more stars. Food is good, prices are more or less in range. Today, service was very poor. Inattentive, slow, several mistakes. The clincher was, when the bill came, we got charged for a mug of hot water! There was no mention of a charge when we ordered water? This is after consuming 2 glasses of wine and a coffee(2 people). Come on. What a chintzy money grab. I hope this gets changed.

we spend about 3 – 4 meals a week at the pub. loved ½ appies and the alcohol was reasonable. However the new menu is pricey and has deleted many of the good items. No 2 for 1 lunch coupons. Smokers love to stand outside the front door so you have to go through them to get in to the pub and then they butt out on the side walk or at the base of the trees leaving a terrible mess. The pub needs to put an ashtray outside. I guess we will be looking for another pub. a few weeks ago I would have given them a 5 star.

They only reason this place is getting a bad score is the customer service, which is a shame because they have some really great food, but the service was so bad I don’t have a huge desire to ever return. I have been twice now and both times our waitress was rude, forgetful and clearly forgot what industry she was working in. This last time, we were seated and then 25 minutes later a waitress brought us water, didn’t ask for an order or anything. After another 10 minutes we finally went to the bar to order, the bartender told us we had to go back to our table and he’d sent our waitress… ok…15 minutes later she arrives. I could go on with the time gaps. It was so frustrating and left such a sour taste. Good food, but HORRIBLE customer service

Wow, now I’d definitely come back here again for their M-F happy hour specials! In New West, I’m usually hard-pressed to find a good spot for cheap happy hour with good prices and variety. So from 3 – 6, M-F, all their appies are half price, excluding platters, and wings, already a deal at $ 6/lb. Within our group, we ordered a number of things, and after discount, the prices ranged from $ 4 – 6. The things I’d order again are: Yam fries(really crispy!), pound of wings, artichoke and spin dip, and kalamari. The lettuce wraps aren’t bad, its definitely not proper Chinese lettuce wraps, but its better than other lettuce wraps I’ve had at chain restaurants and such. I was pretty disappointed with the tzatziki and hummus. Bland bland bland, lacking flavor. The Chili Chicken actually wasn’t bad, but isn’t a dish I’d usually order. Anyhow, with drinks, and several plates of appies, the final bill ended up being around $ 13/person. Pretty good for post-work drinks and nibbles!

While sports pubs are not typically my jam, I found myself at Rivers Reach for a staff party and was totally impressed by the prompt service(considering the place was packed) and the selection of good pub fare. Pizza is half price on Saturday nights which is an awesome deal for what I thought was pretty decent pub pizza and looking at all of the nightly specials, the pub has really great options for both food and drinks every night of the week. The pub also had appies on for half price before 6pm which was a nice touch! Every item of food ordered by myself or my colleagues looked or tasted great and pints of beer were priced reasonably. Considering that I do not make my way out to New West from Vancouver often, it was a great night in a nice environment.

The bun is too dry on the burger. Otherwise it was good. I had the mushroom swiss today with fries. This is an interesting neighborhood pub which was full on a rainy Wednesday night. I couldn’t believe it, and was quite pleasantly surprised to see this neighborhood pub full. The crowd is mixed with old and young and the food and beer is reasonably priced. The servers are friendly and the bar has that old bar feel to it. I’d say it’s a traditional bar. Kinda like on the TV show cheers. They have daily drink specials and it’s actually a pretty large bar. I’d go back. It’s nice to have something in this part of town and not have to go all the way down the hill to the river.

Our party of four arrived at another pub to be turned away as it was packed due to UFC being broadcasted so we made our way here. We found a empty tall table and ordered drinks then decided to see if the heated back enclosed patio would be a quieter option. Indeed it was. We relocated to a low fat round table in the very back corner. Alas peace and quiet abound we settled in. Sadly sitting in the corner meant not seeing the waitress again once our food order was taken. The waitress apologized that they seem to cut staff when they sudden get busy. The response from the men in the group was to order two rounds of drinks :) The JDBBQ sauce beef burger was fantastic and the side of fries huge. An order of calamari and the Swiss burger joined our table. I tried a belini that didn’t particularly seem cranberry-like but it did have two cranberries in it and was almost fishbowl in size. The drink I had after that was a lime kissed Corona. Yummy. A pleasing visit but not necessarily a first choice if one is terribly hungry or in a hurry. :)

Great place to have a beer and a few eats. Not sure if it has anything to do with being across from my office but Highly recommended

½ price pizzas on Saturdays. When asked waitress said they wouldn’t give out boxes for leftovers on Saturdays because pizzas were ‘cheap’($ 10 small $ 11 medium $ 12 large). However she offered the table next to us a take out box for their leftover pizza slices… and when we were leaving I had half a ‘crunch burger’ left on my $ 10 ish plate and she didn’t offer us a box… meanwhile we worked hard to finish our pizza… so spent $ 39 for two people and couldn’t even get a box for leftovers… food was decent. PIZZA — nice & hot, toppings so so(good enough). Burger was decent. Waitress…maybe she didn’t like us… not sure… don’t really care to go back either… Note: they seem to have a lot of their regulars there. And feeling lucky? There were a couple of lottery machines there…

When I guy I am dating lived in the area I visited here to get some off sales. It is $$$, however, a lot more convenient. I was going to a dinner party that weekend and didn’t feel like going to the Liquor store by my house as I just wanted a bottle or two and just head home. Staff here were way more friendly than the cheap place by my house. I even shot the sh*t with one of them for a good 10 minutes about the new Dr. Who Vs. The Old. I even gave tips on how you can make a Dr Who drinking game by taking a shot every time a Dalek says, «Exterminate.»

I’d been here twice for lunch. I’d been hearing good things about this place from friends. But I’m not wowed by this place yet. It’s just okay. It could be the time I went. I’m planning to go back during happy hour we’ll see if I see what my friends see. Today I had smoked salmon with lettuce and capers it came with 4 pieces of toast. It was just okay. I could make that too and replicate the order on my own. There’s nothing endearing about it. The first time I was here I had — what did I have ??? See what I mean? There’s nothing spectacular about the food that I had that I couldn’t remember it. Anyway maybe I should have ordered beer too but then again I was on my lunch break from work. So it’s probably — it’s me not them — kinda situation. I’ll revise my review when I come back for happy hour.

Any time there is a pub AND liquor store withing a short walking distance from home. BONUS! Keep the car home and it’s no worries as far as that’s concerned. The staff are friendly. Have not had food here yet so I’ll be back for sure. Prices are good.

When in doubt in an unfamiliar part of town, you really can’t go wrong with neighbourhood pubs. Parking is available behind the building, as well as the side streets(1h or 2h before 1800, depending on the spot). The place is themed like«1900s», with the vintage fireplace and wood panelling. Nice and cozy. The dining area is split into 2 main areas, and there’s even a large room tucked away beside the«larger» area. Maybe it was the day I was there, but the place is way understaffed. I think our waitress passed by once every 40 minutes. We couldn’t even see where she was to flag her down, as I think she was working both areas. She was friendly and polite though. The Hyack’s «Crunch Time» burger was very good. Came with onion rings too. There’s something about fresh avocado slices and toppings. Special mention. I really enjoyed this one. This place has wings on special all day too. Didn’t try this time though. Pricing was very reasonable too. This is one of the things I really like about low-key places like this. The venue is cozy and comfortable. I will definitely be back to try more of their food, and their wings. Recommended.

I wish I didn’t have to go all the way to New West to this place, but I’m glad I did. What a nice spot! Prices on alcohol and food are VERY reasonable, portions are more than enough and the quality is spot on. There’s also TVs everywhere and they play whatever hockey games are on, so it’s a sure bet that you won’t miss one if you’re here. I came in on a Saturday night and it was absolutely packed. This isn’t the«Please wait to be seated» place, it’s kind of a free for all to grab a table. Probably the only thing I could complain about, even though I did get lucky. So yes, despite it being busy and people coming in constantly, you need to hope that you walk by as you see someone paying for their meals or taking the last sip of their beer. Again, wasn’t an issue for me, but I did see people over the 1.5h that I was there circling around for quite some time. Our waitress was prompt in noticing we had just arrived, told us about the specials and was quick to bring us back our drinks. We ordered the spinach and artichoke appy, and then a burger each. I got chicken, my boyfriend got beef. Food came out really fast considering the volume of the restaurant, though we did receive our mains before the appetizer. No big, apparently there was a mix up with what table received it and it was corrected pretty instantly. The spinach dip was the lack luster of the meal, but only because I’m used to those dips being far more unhealthy than this one was. It was packed with spinach and the chips served were barely salted. You could eat this guilt free. My chicken burger was slathered in whiskey bbq sauce and with the added monterey cheese it was delightful. The beef was great too — and I’d probably go with it next time I’m there. There was a diverse crowd here, a diverse staff and lots of opportunity to socialize, drink and gamble. It’ll be a go to for me when I’m back in New West.

Well I guess all good things… This place used to be the best pub in new west, but over the years things have gone down hill. Their food is still good and the menu has been refreshed. However the service has taken a turn for the worse. While there are still good waitresses here, most of them are cold and indifferent. I’ve been left waiting for extended periods for menus and bills. Some don’t bother checking up on your during your meal. My friends and I have been coming here less and less often because of this. The River’s Reach has gone from the go to bar, to our 3rd or 4th choice.
