Absolutely awful. Me and my four friends went here based off the amazing reviews we saw. It turned out to be a completely locals-only spot and we received nothing but death glares. We were seated at a table that normally seats 6 but crammed us 5 with two of their local regulars. After being ignored for 10 minutes while sitting at the table, waitress then came up and bluntly said«Okay can I see all your ID» without any kindness or whimsicality behind her voice. One of our friends was 18 so we were asked to leave(unaware that after 8pm it was a 19+ venue, we were visiting on vacation). Gladly we left and headed to Heritage Grill down the street and had the times of our lives.

Came here last night for our staff party and had a wonderful time! Some of the most attentive service I’ve ever had, our server was very patient with our large group, super accomodating and all around awesome. The drinks were great, terrific beer list, and the food was very fresh, obviously made from scratch and the menu had something to please everyone. Super reasonable prices, though compared to the price gauging in vancouver everything seems like a bargain. Very good vibe and friendly regulars. Unpretentious and extra points for the music(bowie, lou reed, the kinks? Awesome!)

Ordered the Met Burger with cheese and a salad. The bartender/waitress/server was extremely busy as she was the only person on the floor. She was literally running from behind the bar to the kitchen to pickup food and serve your table — despite this she was very friendly. What does this mean to the quality of service and food? A lot. My order was messed up as originally I had requested fries but then changed it to a salad before she placed the order with the kitchen. Later I noticed(only because I quickly peered over my shoulder) she was about to give me my order, but quickly turned back as it had french fries and not a salad. During the change in order she returned to the bar to serve alcohol from behind the bar. I could hear the kitchen bell ringing to pick up my order(again) and she was challenged with serving those behind the bar and running to the kitchen to pick up my food and re-deliver to my table. During this time-frame, my burger sat for too long which made the bottom bun«soggy». As a customer I felt guilty in reporting back to her the issue when she came to my table to ask me «how was the food» — because she was juggling way too much. During my meal, there was a number of loud, drunk youngsters taking shots and using their cell phones to «video» themselves. Quite loud, annoying and using vulgar language throughout. One female managing the scene was not good. I personally think she herself was too involved in the customer service process to recognize the«raunchy» behaviour. When I paid, I noticed that the cheese I added to the burger was $ 2 — which was something I did not think to ask when ordering the extra add-on. With the cheese added to my meal and one beer(on tap), the total was close to $ 19. For the Met, I find this to be very expensive considering the atmosphere and overall service. I did not tip. Will say the burger was good(except for the soggy bottom bun) and filling. If you don’t want to be overstuffed, I recommend the salad — if I’d had fries I would have felt sick and this would have made for a very greasy meal. Too bad that the tomatoes in the salad were diced, would have been better if sliced whole and then halved(example). Diced tomatoes in a salad are hard to pickup with the leaves using a fork. They all fell to the bottom of the bowl; the house dressing was good. Overall food okay but overpriced and the atmosphere is on the«scuzzy» side with rude patrons and the undesirables loitering about outside next to the Columbia Skytrain.

WHATTHEHECKHAPPENEDHERE??? We were enjoying this years New West Pride celebration on Columbia Street and decided to stop by the MET for a few cocktails and some lunch. The place was hopping, of course, with the street party going on. We understand all that, but our service, cocktails and food couldn’t have been worse. Limited staff so our server was completely overwhelmed to the point of rudeness. Tables dirty and not cleared for a start… then after taking our first order she basically ignored our table. Our drinks were pre-made(poured out of a pitcher and NOT created like cocktail should be), weak and over priced. The food, pre-cooked, dry and small portions… and our guts are still raunched out days later. After being ignored and waiting for drinks for over a half hour we finally left. Got attitude from our server who said«Your drinks are here on the tray» Looked like they had been there a while… This pub should have foreseen the crowds and had more staff on to accommodate it… we won’t be returning here again.

Came here for dinner and drinks with my friends. The Whiskey and Beer burger is superb, one of the best I’ve had. Great value, great service(even accounting for the waiter’s horrible jokes!). I’ll definitely come back again!

The menu is interesting; I tried the zesty chicken wrap and it pleasantly surprised me. The interior looks like your standard dive bar but the patio is amazing.

This place rocks! They are very supportive of the LGBT community with their Monthly Pride Nights :) Way to go!

I like the Met. The service was good and the food and beer were also good. There must have been a door open somewhere because it smelled like cigarettes inside, but for some reason that kind of added to the atmosphere. I’ll be back.

Lord have mercy on me. I am trying to utilize the services provided for me in my hood, but this sh*t is going terribly. I met a friend on a Thurs night around 7pm on the patio here but by no fault of the owners and operators of this established the patio was full of, what my friend cleverly described as «functioning alcoholics who have come to meet their non-functional friends». In the middle of the patio we have the day-drunk young woman yelling at her bf about abuse(I think?) and she yell-talked for the longest damn time. She seemed to suddenly be quiet when a server came onto the scene. Everyone on this patio knew the servers names. All neighbourhood regulars I guess… I am out of my element, donny… The food was ok. The prices ok. The patio was very nice, but the shouting and the many shadey alcoholics make this place quite unfortunate.

The met bar & grill. Is a place I stumbled upon last fall and I’ve been coming back since. It has a nice atmosphere. Pool nights, bands playing certain nights, and a great patio. The food is good. I’ve tried the chicken tenders, shepards pie and the salad. Bartender is very knowledgeable and helpful. I like to tell him«anything with vodka» or any other alcohol and he’ll offer a few suggestions.

I was recently at The Met in New West for a blind date. I loved the Met, not so much the date. The Met is an inviting, cozy neighbourhood pub with a great selection of craft brews. I only sampled the beer, which was delicious, and didn’t try out their food menu. The waitress was quite knowledgeable about the different beers they had on offer. I was happy with her recommendation for me, Blue Buck from the Island. I liked their décor, with international flags hanging around the room. There was a pool table in the back. There were also ample tvs showing play off hockey. My date was more interested in the game than me but that gave me more time to check the place out and the live music on a Thursday evening. I should also mention that the Met is only steps away from the Columbia SkyTrain Station, so you can enjoy an evening out here without worrying about driving. I’ve also regularly visited the attached beer and wine shop. Although quite small, there is a great selection of wine and cold beer. They occasionally have tastings as well, which I enjoyed over the winter time, so much so that I left with a bottle of the wine that they were sampling. It was a hit as a gift. I recommend checking this place out if you’re in the New West area. I hear that their patio is quite nice in the summer. I will go back to check it out.

Rohan S. says it perfectly re: their craft beer. «When you’re in there, it feels like the Coors Light folks have got the message but the Craft Beer Crowd hasn’t figured it out yet. « This pub has made the forward thinking switch from mainstream to craft beer and have some very exciting things on tap. They have two rotating taps that are a beer geeks dream and their standard selection is pretty amazing too. When you’re in there make sure you do two things: 1. Try one of their craft beers(or at least the Islander Lager if you’re a lager fan) 2. Try the food! The food here is amazing. I never have a bad dish and they make so much of their food from scratch. I always find that anything with chicken is my absolutely favorite(including their wings. Yum!) because they only use fresh chicken! Never frozen. Wow, what a difference. I love this place. The atmosphere is chill and fun, their patio is great and the liquor store attached always has something new and crafty. Also, the hotel attached is pet friendly and 120 years old. Gorgeous rooms and even has an in-house ghost ;)

This is an odd but charming little pub in New West. They’re trying hard to transition from the Coors Light to the Craft Beer Crowd. When you’re in there, it feels like the Coors Light folks have got the message but the Craft Beer Crowd hasn’t figured it out yet. As I mentioned they’ve got a great craft beer selection with a good focus on local breweries(as does the attached cold beer and wine store). The staff her is very pleasant, but some aren’t all that knowledgeable about the beer their servin With New West becoming the next up and coming neighbour hood, this place has a lot of potential to be a hot spot along Columbia St.

This review is for the attached Beer and Wine store. Average at best. I miss the days when all the staff that worked there had facial piercings and crazy coloured hair. Oh, and they were all super friendly. I guess management changed a few years back and so did all the staff — now I’m surprised when someone even acknowledges my presence, let alone asks me how my day is going. Pricey, like most beer and wine stores, and has a small selection. I tend to only go here if I happened to be in that neck of the woods and it’s ten minutes to 11pm so I don’t have time to go anywhere else. The bar could be good, but honestly I’ve never felt the need to go check it out.
