I feel like Clancy’s has a ton of potential, but they just don’t care enough to do anything about it. We stopped in here on a Thursday night for their half price wing special($ 4.50 a pound with the purchase of a beverage). When we walked in, no one greeted us except a giant sandwich board which listed their specials. «I guess we just seat ourselves?» we shrugged. So we sat down at one of the many tables littered about amongst the pool tables, pinball games, Foosball tables, and dance floor that looked like it hadn’t been danced on in years. After sitting for a minute, we realized no one was going to come take our order, so we went up to the bar to ask for a menu. While at the bar, we ordered two pounds of wings and two beers(MGD for $ 5.50 a bottle), then went back to our table. In hindsight, I should have taken a picture of the interior. It was kind of… grungy. Definitely not a place that anyone with high standards would want to eat at(fortunately for me, I’m not a high standards kind of gal). The wings didn’t take long to come out and the bartender that we ordered from came by to check up on us. The wings were pretty decent and it was nice that they came with some veggie sticks(and dip!). If I’m desperately craving some cheap wings, or if I want to play pool, I’ll probably come back. If you’re looking for a nice atmosphere, good service, and out of this world food, then look elsewhere.

Don’t bother. The service here is practically non-existent. After sitting at the table for almost 20 minutes(in plain view of the servers) we finally had to go up and order a drink. Later, we ended up having to move to the bar so we could order some food(no one appeared to be waiting on the tables!?). The bartender was quite nice, but not at all proactive. We were never once asked if we wanted another beer. Usually bars are on top of that. The food was average. Typical previously frozen stuff that you could make at home plus sandwiches, salads, etc. Definitely not worth the wait. Atmosphere inside was ok. Some updates have been done & you can play pool and foosball. Not too bad if you want to watch sports but you might want to hit up the liquor store next to it & sneak in a 6 pack if you’re expecting more than one beer. I’m sure the servers won’t notice.

Because my previous favourite wing place had recently closed down(57 below) I decided to give Clancy’s Sports Bar and Grill a shot as it happened to be a Wednesday meaning they had their 15 cent wing special on. Location The pub is in a bit of a sketchy area nestled within the Royal Towers Hotel. I had to loop around twice before I realized you have to drive in past the liquor store and hotel to reach the pub as there’s no visible sign. Customers can park in the parking lot and get reimbursed inside, but there’s also street parking nearby. It was relatively empty when we got in around 8 p.m. No music, no large crowds, okay for catching up and chatting but definitely lacked a bar atmosphere. The bar is incredibly spacious and the tables are very spread apart with a small dance floor in the middle and a few pool tables and foosball machines scattered around. Food/Drink We weren’t offered a menu when we arrived, but the waitress was able to reel off the list of beers on tap and wing flavours. They had quite a few flavours including honey garlic, salt and pepper, hot, sweet Thai and barbeque. My favourite were the hot and honey garlic. The hot was just hot enough with that buffalo flavour I love and the honey garlic was just sweet and saucy enough for my liking. The salt and pepper was also another favourite at the table, but the barbeque didn’t score so well. The beer on the other hand wasn’t so great. We tried out their Rickard’s Red and White as well as the Caribou. Both tasted watered down and unappealing. Pricing I visited Clancy’s on a Wednesday night which happens to be their wing special night. The wings were 15 cents each(10 in a basket) and you have to buy a drink(minimum $ 2.50, $ 3.95+ for alcohol). What they don’t tell you however is that each flavour is an extra 50 cents, so technically the wings are 20 cents each(which isn’t much and they’re still extremely cheap, but it’s nice if they let you know first). All in all, Clancy’s isn’t bad. Not quite as many flavours as 57 below and the drinks aren’t as good, but definitely a less shady crowd. I would definitely recommend a visit there for the wings., but you might want to predrink before you go.

This is a big and sprawling bar on the ground floor of the Royal City Towers. It’s far too big, and far too disjointed to develop any sort of vibe or feeling. The crowd is a strange mix of barflys and students, and the service is friendly enough. It’s not somewhere I’ll be a regular.

Clancy’s finished some major(and exceedingly lengthy) renovations sometime in the fall that left the place looking… well, to be honest, looking almost exactly like it looked before. I’m assuming the rent is pretty cheap in New West, because they don’t pull in the kind of numbers that could keep a place this spacious in business for very long in any other part of the city. And having half the bar shut down while they did several months of renovations couldn’t have helped any. THATBEINGSAID: the food is edible, the beer is affordable(especially if you don’t mind Molson Canadian), there are TV screens playing sports everywhere(though not pay-per-view, anymore), and there are some extraordinarily friendly staff members. Plus a couple of pool tables and an arcade punching-bag machine for taking out your frustrations on. There are also a whole bunch of colourful local personalities that are regulars there, to you know, keep it real. Be aware that they occasionally have one of those one-man-band guys who sings and plays guitar along to recorded elevator muzak. I consider this one step away from Karaōke, but of course you don’t get to participate, so I guess it’s not really the same thing, is it. If I haven’t scared you away yet, I ought to say that I like this place, because it’s a down-to-earth local watering hole, and because it is frequently empty(or at least not that crowded) — even on hockey nights.

There’s not much I can really say about this place other than it’s a large pub sparsely populated, mostly by people my parent’s age. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. There were quite a few pool tables, and apparently on some nights they have live music. There was a spacious outdoor seating/smoking area which would be a bonus for warm weather, although I did not actually go outside. Food is decent. I had the classic burger with mushrooms and cheese added and fries. The burger was huge! It was also very tasty, even if it was dripping a pool of grease onto my plate. The fries were also delicious, not bad at all for pre-frozen, deep fried, shoe string fries. Overall it wasn’t bad, considering it was at a mediocre sports bar in New Westminster. Food is moderately priced, although I couldn’t figure out why the veggie burger is a few bucks more than a beef burger. Service was friendly. I would probably go back here again at some point.

This place is awkwardly spacious. It seems like it was built for something else but instead they threw a few chairs in, and a few pool tables and decided on a bar. I would guess perhaps a dance club, but judging by the age of the patrons… probably not. I’ve gone twice, both on Wednesdays. Apparently it is the only drinking hole left in New Westminster that hasn’t disappointed my New West friends… yet.(Last time we went into the Met we were completely blinded by the lights and stumbled out backwards wondering where we were and why we hadn’t brought sunglasses.) They seem to have trivia games on the big flatscreens that you can play. It looks pretty hard though, or maybe I just don’t get the questions because I’m under 40. Pitchers of Canadian(sigh…) are on special for around $ 10 on Wednesdays. We opted for the Sleeman’s Honey instead though. It was about $ 14 and to me it tasted fine, but to my friends it tasted weird and watered down, like a pale ale. The second time we went, I ordered the veggie burger with fries. It was decent. I ate until I was stuffed! The fries were great, the veggie burger was«meh». The cheese slice helped though. I’ll probably order this next time… as I don’t have any other choice. The first time we went, they ordered the nachos. I had one bite and no desire to go back for more. I don’t know what the hell kind of weird cheddar cheese they used, but it was nasty and tasted how I imagine a toilet bowl would if you were to lick it. Or maybe I’m just ruined for nachos since having them at the Foundation? You tell me. Anyways, I’ll probably go back. Its not the worst. or the best.

I just went back there recently to visit friends since I’ve moved. Clancy’s is under renovations and it looks like they will be getting a lot smaller. This is upsetting. I don’t know if the food has changed since I only drank. Please don’t change drastically, Clancy’s!
