Had a lovely birthday dinner here this past Saturday… had the frites to start(almost too much before a full dinner). I had a *gorgeous* beef cheek stroganoff, my partner had the pork. Great service, atmosphere, and the beer selection was wonderful. Thanks for a great evening.

Didn’t have a reservation and we had the 4yr old with us and realized uh oh… not a place really for kids. Was accommodated and seated at the bar against the window. Nice view. Very good service between the hostess, waitress and bartender who brought us our beers. Had the trappistes rochefort 8. Pretty nice. Ordered the sweet sausage special and wife had the Burger which she really liked. Even the 4yr old liked it(no kids menu of course). Sausage was different… dry and spicey… 4⁄5. Great atmosphere, really like the décor. At 18 for each meal, a little pricey. I would have been happy at 15 as this is Hamilton.

Came here on a friends recommendation, made a res on a weeknight. Waited at the front for 5 min for hostess, who then told us they didn’t have our reservations. No worries, they’ll seat us– then I’m assuming the manager comes up to us and grills us for another 5 minutes over our reservations. ‘R u sure you made them because people lie to us all the time.’ Seriously? Tells us no big deal, we can seat you but still just wouldn’t get over it! Perhaps we should’ve left then, but glad we stayed because next up, we met our lovely server– she was great, she was attentive without being annoying. Cocktails were pretty good, the broccoli app is so yummy and huge! Trout was a little too rich for me but my husband loved the Cornish hen. We had the goat cheesecake for dessert which was the most awful thing I ate, and the server just took it off the bill– without us complaining about anything! She was great! I prob would’ve given this place 4.5 stars, but the guy at the front ruined the initial experience for me. So, if anyone’s looking to go– make reservations, bring a printout of your confirmation and maybe get it notarized for safe measure!

We found this restaurant on Open Table and decided to go for dinner based on past reviews. The location is very picturesque and parking is a plenty on the street and at nearby street lots. The building itself is smallish although the space they have is well used. The dining room is upstairs which is nice in that it is separated from the bar area downstairs. They have a coat check which is also very nice especially at this time of year. We had a bottle of Reisling which was over priced but very tasty(VQA). Warm pretzels with a beer cheese dip were amazing. In terms of number of pretzels and size there could have been more but the flavour and freshness were great. We both had the strip loin steak which was buttery soft and cooked perfectly. The salad was ok, not much in it, but the dressing was lemony and obviously home made. Basic French fries were served with the steak. It was a bit disappointing that no other options were availabe for the potato, but the fries were hot and tasty. We had dessert a Bee Sting cake that was served with what tasted like home made vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The cake was not too sweet and the filling was more of a custard. The price before tax for both of us was $ 150 which we thought was expensive. Food was very good but portions were small, choice was limited and price was high. We will likely be back perhaps to try the barn downstairs.

Reading reviews of the Brux House on this and various other food blogs I’m reminded of the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes. Though, in the case of the Brux House it’s the prices that are dressing up this average gastropub(note to self: last time I ever use that term… ever). When the best thing you order are the fries at a gastrop… er, I mean, a self-designated finer eating establishment that serves beer, how could said establishment be anything but average. Which isn’t a problem if you are going for beer and deep-fried treats. But at the prices customers are being asked to pay, one cannot help but feel that one has fallen victim to gentrification without representation… like purchasing a knock-off at designer prices. We must say, though… service was spot on and FOH staff was great. Fortunately, the smiles were free. So if you want to stick your pinky finger out while sipping your suds from a brandy snifter while eating ok food at k.o. prices… knock yourself(s) out. As for us? We’ll grab some of the great beers from the LCBO, some great ingredients from Nations and invite some friends over… and keep waiting for something truly«refreshingly current and different» to come to Hamilton. We all deserve it…

My wife and I moved to Dundas last November from Toronto and quickly fell in love with the local restaurant Quatrefoil. We were told about The Brux House its Sister Restaurant in Hamilton so decided to visit on a special occasion, our first date after the birth of our baby! We were certainly not disappointed, The Brux House is situated on Hamilton’s Locke St in one of its characterful brick buildings and the décor is on point and tasteful. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and so decided to take a table on the patio. The staff are extremely friendly, knowable and attentive. To our pleasant surprise it was also Cider week, now as a boy from the West Country in the UK this was a fantastic addition to our dining experience! Our waiter was given the challenge of pairing our dish choices with a flight of local Ciders on offer. We both had the special appetizer of Squid with herb and chilli crumble and black garlic paste, and the Country Fried Chicken Sandwich for our main. Both were stunning dishes and the selection of ciders paired perfectly! The Brux House is an absolute gem and a real treat for any foodie looking to enjoy a casual dinning environment accompanied by spectacular food.

After hearing so many rave reviews from friends, we decided to check it out. They take reso’s which was nice and the ambience is restored wood comfort luxury. Menu is very selective, there were 5 mains to choose from. I had the PEI mussels and they were the smallest, almost microscopic sized mussels. Cost was not proportional to taste or portion size. Kind of felt like you were in a beer hall but with $ 25-$ 30 entrees. Beers were great though, tried a sour beer and a local IPA. Service was on point and parking was easier then expected. Just wasn’t really impressed by the food and thought it was over priced for a Hamilton gastropub. Probably won’t be back.

ohmigosh… I’m still thinkin about those fries… i think they were double fried, extra crispy on the edges, seasoned perfectly and that aioli dipping sauce… um, what else… decent selection of brews… we both loved the scotch egg and my companion loved his burger, stated it was one of the best he’s had in awhile(juicy and flavourful when I prodded for more details). Skip out on the mussels though, they were teeny-tiny and the broth was bland. Have also tried steak and it’s covered in this bone marrow butter, oh-mi-gawd…pork schnitzel was lovely too. Service is pleasant with just the right amount of attention, bit on the pricier side but def a place to consider when in the area.

Favorite spot in Hamilton right now. Best to make reservations if you’re going on the weekend. The cauliflower appetizer and schnitzel were amazing & and they have awesome craft beers that can be sampled in small flights.

Hamilton has indeed arrived with this high end gastropub. And I mean high end. $ 24 bottles of beer. Mains that start at $ 30. This is a place to go when you want to drop some large coin, get good food, and hard to find beers(both in bottles and on tap). Service is quite excellent. Meals come out quickly. The best value on the menu are the fries. The elk scotch egg is to die for. The house craft beer, unfortunately, is undrinkable. And they serve the beer in brandy sniffers. Not a good ol’ beer glass. It’s a peeve of mine. Ultimately, this is not your corner pub ‘n’ grub. Certainly it’s a place to take your retired professor ‘rent for his/her birthday. A once of year’er.

My husband and I dined at Brux House last night and our meal was flawless from start to finish. The atmosphere is great! Quaint Belgian beer hall feel. Our server Beau was fabulous, friendly, highly knowledgable and respectful. Actually all the staff seemed to posses these qualities! We started with the soft pretzels, baby shrimp and oysters. Outstanding. Mmmm so many great flavours. Our mains — I had an Oktoberfest sausage that was juicy and flavourful. My husbo had the steak frites which came topped with bone marrow butter — umami heaven! Oh and drinks! I was looking for something sans alcohol and was made the best Shirley Temple ever. In a word, yum! My husband had a flight of beers and enjoyed the craft selections. Really I could not say enough good things about this place! So happy they have arrived in our neighbourhood and hope they are here to stay! We will be back sooner than later!

Great place. The good: excellent craft beer selection, great ambiance, and what looks like a pretty good hipsterish menu(unfortunately didn’t try the food!). The not so good: the service was a little off. We waited at the door for 10 minutes before being seated, despite a table being ready for us upstairs… since the hostess was busy with other things. Maybe they were understaffed that night. Another thing, when pouring beers don’t make half the beer head/foaminess please! Overall I thought this place was great, just a couple minor issues. I think when they finally get up and going this place will be excellent.

Very nice ambiance with a delicious variety of beers. Had the Mussels with Fries and a Bretty White(so tasty). Fries were perfect and the aioli that went with them was quite good. Mussels were lacking flavour though as the sauce they were in was almost too light. Needed some garlic to add some flavour. But I do look forward to trying all of their other offerings as everything looked delicious as it went out.
