I always said this is the store I would shop at when I grew up and had a big important job. Slowly, I’m starting to realize that maybe I’m already at that point? Can we take a second to talk about the window display? Those Grimsmo ladies got it. Their window display is on point. It’s defiantly grabs your attention and pulls you in. Constantly changing and seasonal, it’s a highlight of my walks on Barrington St. The shop itself is full of high end Canadian made clothing and locally sourced jewelry. I can’t say everything is Canadian designed, because I don’t know, but I think they try hard to support local and Canadian artist — which I can get behind. Stuff can be on the pricey side in here, but don’t worry. they have sales. I took advantage of their tax free boxing day sales. It is worth it for the quality of clothing you get here, and did I mention the Yoga jeans? I would say this shop is aimed towards the successful, classic, on trend 30⁄40 something and who doesn’t was to be classic and successful at any age? It’s located in the old Junk and Foibles shop space. I loved that store so much, but I have to say it looks way more spacious and pulled together as J&R Grimsmo.

Halifax needs more lovely little shops like this. Whenever I’m on Barrington Street, I know I’m going to pop in and see what new and cook items that J&R have on their shelves. The clothing here is sparse, which means you’ll be one of the few and the proud to own your particular dress or shirt from here. It’s always nice to feel cool. I don’t often find much in the clothing that I like here, but I love their accessories! J&R is very much in love with locals, so they always have jewelry by NS artists. As someone who loves fashion rings, but can rarely find them to fit her, this place is a diamond in the rough. Tiny rings, with teacups and thorns on them! So cool! I want all of them. They also have a collection of lovely vintage handkerchiefs here. Very classy!

This store makes me happy. First of all, it’s just so darn pretty to look at. The way they have the store laid out and decorated is really chic, but with a fun, hip twist. Second of all, they carry super cute and well-made pieces that you won’t see everywhere else, and many of them by local artisans. Last time I visited I picked up a gold necklace with a pen point charm and I absolutely love it(I have pretty much worn it every day since). Thirdly, the girls that work here are super nice and always have the best outfits on. You just get the sense from this place that the owners are really passionate about what they do, that they handpick each item lovingly, and that they have their finger on the pulse of what is happening in Halifax and what fashionable Halifax ladies are looking for. I have to admit that most of their prices are out of my range, however, these items scream quality in the construction and fabrics, plus they are unique, so I totally understand the prices(it just means I can’t purchase things here as often as I would like *sadface*). So glad to see a chic boutique doing so well downtown — I really hope it sticks around!

OK so there was one thing in the store I saw that interested me enough to buy which was a designer water bottle and it is kind of cool. For the ladies on the other hand if you are looking for the new yoga jean pants then look no further they carry them for only $ 120 regular price and this place does have sales might I add. I really did not look at every rack as this is obviously a women’s store but high end shops and I are like butter on toast even if it is an all women’s store. I always take a look around to see what’s in the now.

If you’re looking for something different to wear or just an admirer of beautiful simplicity, pop into J&R Grimsmo. Fashionistas for sure should add this boutique to their must-visit lists. J&R Grimsmo is the latest and maybe the most stylish addition to the Halifax women’s fashion scene. Located in the old Junk & Foibles spot, the owners have made the most of this beautiful space refinishing the floors to their lovely original state and using older pieces of furniture such as chest of drawers and an amazing counter to create a very unique retail space. One of my besties gave me a very cool necklace from here(made of brass with two charms – a map of France and a small replica of a hammer) so of course I paid a visit to see what other goodies I could find. The clothing leans toward the casual, yet dressy style. There are pieces for both work and the evening. Prices are definitely on the higher end, but the pieces are beautiful in their simplicity and clean lines. The kind of funky classics you could keep in your closet for years. The store also sells great accessories including unique necklaces and rings and belts. Plus there are also some quirkier items like hand hooked throw pillows and paper mobiles with nature themes. I found a very nice hand cream to put on my Christmas wish list. Although the prices are definitely on the higher side, the service did not reflect the price point. I was met with a friendly greeting and no pressure, leaving me to browse the beautiful surroundings and wares in peace. Even if you can only afford to browse, be sure to pay a visit.
