We love to find these diners when we are on the road. We’ve passed this place a few times on our day trips to the valley. This time we had an overnight stay and this was the closest place for breakfast in the morning. A lovely, warm, inviting spot, it’s much larger on the inside then it appears on the outside. A few kitschy decorations but nothing over the top. They have a nice collection of china mugs on display. The menu isn’t large put neither is it pricey. A basic breakfast of one egg, your choice of bacon, ham or sausage and toast is 4.95. You get a nice little tub of their house made ginger pear marmalade which is excellent. They have the little prepackaged jams but why would you? The place wasn’t overly full on the labour day weekend Monday but service was fast and friendly and she was around frequently for coffee refills. Would definitely recommend and we won’t pass by so often without stopping in.

Amazing service and even better food! Had the deluxe burger and a strawberry shake, and was satiated. Though i could not say no to a slice of home made coconut cream pie. Great atmosphere, food and service.

a favourite since childhood. I always have the large hamburger with the works, which includes lots of delicious fried onions. And then usually I have a l slice of the justifiably famous pie, sometimes with a scoop of their old –fashioned vanilla ice cream. We work through the season from rhubarb to cherry to blueberry and finally apple. Coconut cream can be fitted in somewhere over the months. Their fish chowder with scones is also great. They are only open six months of the year so by now, March, I am beginning to look forward to the re opening. The staff are terrific; many have been there for decades, others are students. It is always packed and does not take reservations but you should not miss it.

This is a lovely, no-frills diner café just outside of downtown Wolfville that I’ve been visiting pretty regularly for the past five years or so. The best way to describe it? Well, it’s where all the senior citizens go for soup, sandwiches and chowder. ‘Nuff said? ‘Nuff said. The food is fresh made in house, sold for cheap, and consistent as all get out. While I hadn’t been in for a while, last weekend we visited with a celiac with a pretty low gluten tolerance. There may not have been much on the breakfast menu for her, but they were able to whip up a veggie omelet that did the trick. Not only that, they took the time to ask questions and learn that they’d need to thoroughly wash a separate frying pan to make sure she could eat. Kudos for being an old-timey favourite that can still surprise with some modern adaptations!

We were in the Valley today and when lunchtime rolled around we wanted to try a downhome style restaurant. The Evangeline Café was suggested so seven of us took a little trip from Kentville over to Grand Pre. The first thing we were told was to make sure and order a milk shake as they are the best around. The thing with the milk shakes is that they first mix them up in the ‘metal container’ on the mixer and then pour as much as they can into your glass. They also give you the metal mixing container with at least another cup or two of milkshake that is left over. So out of the seven of us there were six milkshakes plus six metal containers, enough to feed twelve people! One warning, make sure to take it easy on the milkshake so you can enjoy the food. I opted for a chicken clubhouse wrap which was excellent. Others ordered the chowder which I was told was very good. The food was fast and very tasty, service was great and the price is reasonable. I will be back!
