Yum. Guiltless fast food. This spot is consistently good.

Great food, good quality, delicious and great portions. Very authentic tasting. My respects to el cocinero inspirado! I’m so glad I got to experience this place before my vacation was over! I will be back!

I had 3 beef tacos at Windmill location. Food is good, but I feel ripped off. Very small, 3 for 10 $, for after tax and a 1.50 tip(excellent service) its like 13 $. They should throw in a drink or something. Ill stick to Cheese Curds which has amazing value.

What can I say about my love affair with Habaneros… Let’s see if I can find the words. I absolutely love Habaneros, my partner and I eat there at least once a week. We’ve tried many burrito places in town, but this place has by far the best! The tortillas are just thick enough, the meat is so tender & juicy, and the selection of toppings is beyond what I could ever imagine. Also, their bowls will have you eating left overs for 2 days! They are definitely not stingy on the toppings, which is great! My partner is a vegetarian, and it’s always a task to find something for her other than fish at most restaurants. Habaneros has a vegetarian chick pea curie base that will blow any meat eater’s socks off! Sometimes I chose that one instead of the ground pork because it’s that good. Good on you Habaneros… My love… haha!

Wanted to try this place since I first heard about it almost two years ago. Finally was in the area on a summer Saturday at noon so decided to pop in. There are a few patio tables with umbrellas outside and one family was having lunch there, but no other customers were inside. Friendly service. I knew in advance that I’d be trying their veggie burrito, so ordered it immediately and got a take-out pulled pork mango quesadilla for my partner at home. We enjoyed both a lot, very fresh with good flavor. If I had any requests though, it would be to offer whole wheat tortillas. Or do they and it just wasn’t mentioned? Also, I like refried beans on my burritos and only really noticed the absence when I got home to eat it. Obviously the main competitor in HRM is Burrito Jax, which I actually prefer a teensy bit more, but Habanero’s are still great too. I’ll go back any time and try a burrito bowl.

I know it’s not authentic Mexican, more of the Subway of Mexican food but I can’t stop thinking about the Burrito I had! It was SO good. Pulled pork burrito is now my life. I’ve been raving about this place for two days, thankfully I was going on about how much I loved this place to a co-worker, and he said he use to pass it all the time to get to work, I was confused(we work South End Halifax). Come to find out there is one right up the road from me on South Park street! All this time, this delicious Mexican gem has been right under my nose! You better believe I’m going there later today I built my burrito pretty low key mild, with tons of cilantro, but let’s face it, it’s all about that pulled pork goodness. I want to try other things, but I’m not sure I will be able to stray from my one true love… I’m now a burrito gal. Side note: It was pretty huge, I split it with someone else and was comfortable full by the end of it, so be hungry and built that burrito my friend!

Confession: I prefer the Burnside location. Mostly for seating options. The food at both is pretty great(hence 4⁄5). Since this is, technically, a fast-food joint, you might think that service is sub-par. You’d be wrong! The people who work here are always attentive to the needs of their customers. As a vegetarian, there aren’t as many options on the menu but the staff are accommodating and give me extras of some of the other portions. The food is always fresh and delicious. I usually get the three taco deal and am allowed to customize each one which definitely makes for a more enjoyable experience. Seating here is, as indicated above, limited. It’s one of the few disadvantages. Other than that, I’d recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Mexican. Or, more accurately, modern Mexican fusion.

I absolutely adore Mexican food, as an avid maker of it at home it’s nice to be able to just go somewhere and have it done for you. Living in Canada(having done a bit of travel in the USA) our choices for Mexican food aren’t exactly plentiful. However the majority of the places around here that do it, tend to do it fairly well. Habaneros is no exception to that rule. I was on my way to work and happened to be craving some spicy food the few days prior so naturally off to the place with the name of one of the hotter peppers on the planet is probably a good start. It was mid-afternoon when I went in, only one other patron in the place, so it wasn’t busy at all and I ordered a burrito and taco to go and really the only downside to this entire visit is the fact when it came time to eat later in the evening when I was at work, I had discovered the burrito was missing a couple of toppings that I had asked for(beans, *facepalm* and my sriracha sour cream) so it was basically a rice/meat/pico and salsa tortilla. Mildly inconvenient to my burrito experience, but I’ve been several times and every other time everything’s been delicious. The taco wasn’t much to write home about, as I find taco’s are fairly standard fare across the board no matter where you go. I’ll certainly return again, and will probably be making sure this time that I get all of my toppings before I leave.

I have eaten at Habaneros just one time. Previous to trying this establishment I had eaten at Cheese Curds several times and very much enjoyed my food. I know they are worlds apart as far as the type of food they serve but I believe they are owned by the same people, so I figured the same quality would be there. The choices here were great and the staff were friendly so that was a plus, I couldn’t decide what to get so I opted for three soft shell tacos. One with pulled pork, one with chicken, and the last with ground beef. Let me just say the toppings were awesome, the flavoured sour cream and the guacamole and fresh crisp lettuce… Yum. However the protein is where the problem is. The chicken was moist and well cooked but flavourless and not seasoned at all. The pulled pork was pretty good but just was not much of it on my taco. The ground beef was pretty gross, really greasy and almost mushy. All in all I was pretty disappointed with the meal and I’m not in any hurry to return. I will give it another try but if it disappoints again… Papa bear ain’t gonna be happy.

Putting aside my normal long winded reviews, I will opt to go short and sweet with this one. Just try it. Their ingredients are fresh and just popping with flavour. The Burritos are huge and filling. A choice of different rice and sour creams keep things interesting. The pickled onions are the stuff dreams are made of. The quesadillas are a nice way to switch it up and their nachos are surprisingly plentiful and tasty. Do yourself a favour and try some of the freshest Mexican Fusion cuisine around. Not authentic, but amazing!

Yum! I’m at The Mount Hope hospital this week doing an orientation for work, and when one of the speakers mentioned Habaneros is down the street and its a must try I figured I had to take her word for it! I ordered 2 crispy veggie tacos and nacho chips. It came to about $ 9 after tax and tip which I thought was pretty reasonable. Habaneros has a fabulous variety of veggies and I felt I was getting great value when they loaded the veggies on. I asked for«everything», which included jalapeños, pickled carrots(yum), lettuce, pico de gallo(not sure if I spelled that right), and some other ones i’m not remembering. I got the spicy salsa, the hottest hot sauce they had, and the honey jalepeno sour cream. The tacos were DELICIOUS. They had a huge burst of flavour and the sauces were good and spicy, but still so flavourful. Not to mention I was definitely full after the meal, which I’ve found since going vegetarian I’ve had an issue with. The chips and salsa were also really good, maybe my only complaint is that I wish they gave me more salsa with the chips, I ran out!

I love this place! Everyone who has ever waited on me there has been nice, and I have never waited too long in a line up. Definitely a friendly and efficient environment. While they have many options, I have only ever had the 3 set tacos. I always get the double shell ones, soft tacos with a hard taco shell inside, with taco beef as my meat of choice with multiple toppings. They’re pico de giro os fresh, I’m not a fan of tomatoes, but I loved it. To top it off, they’re options of sour cream makes me excited. It’s different. My favorite is the chipotle sour cream, that adds a little kick to my tacos. The price is reasonable, and I find the tacos have a moderately fair amount of food in them for me. My only complaint would not even be about the food, but the seating inside. The stools are okay, but not exactly comfort. I’m glad I live in Halifax with no car. If I didn’t, I think I would be eating out and there way more often a week than a normal person should.

This is only the second time I have ever posted on Unilocal, but I felt obligated to pass on what a terrible place this is. First off while placing my order I had to repeat it about 15 times as the staff didn’t seem to be paying any attention to me for more than 1s at a time The next problem is what you actually get in the tacos. As you can see by the photo I have added, you don’t get much, and I mean for almost $ 10 after tax this is a complete rip-off I almost thought of leaving as I was watching the staff make the tiny things, but I decided to stick it out and pay the ridiculous price so that I could see what these minuscule tacos packed that they were getting 5 star reviews. Well I wish I had of left before completing my order, as the 1 tiny piece of meat I got in my taco was tasteless, and the only thing that had some taste to it was the salsa that they added. As Cheese Curds is owned by the same person I will probably never eat there again now either. If you are looking to have a taco you would be better off going to Taco Bell than subjecting yourself to the garbage that they serve here

What a wonderful place Habaneros is for a bite after long, hard hours of intense thrift store shopping at Value Village across the street. I reside in Halifax and don’t get to frequent it as much as I’d like but that’s just as well. I’d be here a lot more often. I have a feeling that with such a vast array of fillings and condiments, I’d be hard pressed to become bored with all they have to offer. I’ve been here twice now, the first time trying the special burrito of the day. I love that you can’t make substitutions to the fillings on the special. I’d do the same if I’d taken the trouble to put together the amazing pulled pork burrito with crispy onions and other delicious fillings I inhaled. On my second visit, I wasn’t in the mood for anything bready, so I opted for the burrito bowl which came with a nice crispy gluten free bowl shaped shell, and was consequently filled with some amazing cilantro-lime rice, beans, some epic pulled pork and a variety of toppings. I almost clapped my hands and jumped for joy when I discovered they had pickled AND regular onions. Extra cilantro and some chipotle sour cream rounded off my pile of porky goodness(alas they were out of honey jalapeño which I will have to try another time). I find the prices super reasonable for the quality of the meal and I love that the staff are super cheerful and seem genuinely happy to make you some sweet eats. My one request would be an amazing Mexican inspired dessert like churos perhaps. I’m excited about my next closet do-over so I will have another excuse to treat my self to a post thrifting meal at this wonderful gem hidden away in Dartmouth.

Not a bad place to stop for something filling and tasty but I probably won’t write home about this one. I had a chicken quesadilla with the famed lime-cilantro sour cream and my lunch date had nearly the same thing. We opted for different types of salsa, I went for the house made variety and the medium was also tested out. The heat was blasting on a cold winter’s day so I was glad I had a sleeveless top on under my sweater and jacket, as it was almost difficult to breathe inside, it was so hot! I was asked if I was ok with tomatoes and onions, and as these turned out to the closest things to veggies that get put in the quesadilla I’m certainly glad I’m ok with them. The chicken was fine, and plenty of it. The cheese was your normal garden-variety shredded, also plenty of that. Overall, Habaneros is fast and filling, but I don’t think it’ll tempt any foodies to make a repeat visit.

So I found myself mid-afternoon passing the plaza and felt compelled to turn in. I can’t believe that I got here in it’s first week and have yet to try Cheese Curds next door. But today I just didn’t feel like a burger since I wasn’t up to eating in and I didn’t think a burger would travel as well as something from Habaneros It was shortly after 3:00, there was no line up at all here. Lots of cheerful faces behind the counter. Owner, Chef Bill even popped his head in from the kitchen while I was there. As I stared up at the menu board the fellow behind the counter commented I had the glazed look of someone overwhelmed by the selection. I didn’t tell him it was actually a fevered look from someone suffering with pneumonia. I really couldn’t compute everything to make a quick decision so when I spotted the chimichanga decided on it, with BBQ pulled pork. It actually was a good decision. The chimichangas come with your choice of salsa and sour cream, I chose the medium heat salsa and lime & cilantro sour cream. With a bottle of Coke it came to $ 10 + change. It was almost an hour before I was able to sit down and chow down on this big ol’ deep fried burrito. I gave it a quick zap to heat it up and it was delish. Loved the pulled pork. Might even go for the hotter green salsa for more heat next time. Didn’t think I had the appetite to finish it all but I did. It may not be traditional Mexican food and I don’t think they profess to be so, it’s good fresh imaginative food. Honestly, I think I’ll make it back here before I even make it to Cheese Curds for the first time. Wish I’d had the presence of mind to pick up a menu so I could actually take the time to make a more studied decision for my next visit.

I’m a big fan of Mexican food, and thanks to my half-Mexican boyfriend(who lived in Mexico for 4 years), I have learned what actually constitutes«authentic Mexican food» and«Americanized Mexican food» and find myself on the lookout for the former whenever I have the chance. Unfortunately the choices in this category have been severely lacking in this city(with the exception of Mexico Lindo) until the past few months so when I heard Habaneros had opened up I couldn’t wait to get my gringa culo in there to check out their ingredients. Well, clearly this place is consistent because I can definitely echo what everyone else has said about friendly and fast service — the guys behind the counter are super nice and I had my order within minutes(although there was only one person ahead of us so it not being busy I’m sure helped with this). Now that that’s out of the way, onto the really important part — the ingredients. First of all, I was impressed that they had corn tortillas on the menu(definitely«authentic Mexican» as opposed to the more traditionally Americanized white flour tortilla), although I was disappointed to hear they only had them in hard/crunchy form, not soft. This is a tiny complaint though, because flour tortillas are still fine in my book and theirs were good. I just kinda hope they carry soft corn tortillas sometime in the future. I ordered a BBQ pulled pork and a fajita chicken soft taco, with pico de gallo, house-made salsa, corn salsa, lettuce, and lime-cilantro sour cream on top. OHMYFREAKINGODTHETOPPINGSWERESODELICIOUS! It seriously was all super-fresh and I loved the variety. The pulled pork was so good I couldn’t get it into my mouth fast enough. The chicken wasn’t as good — I liked it — it was tender and lots of flavour, but I found it was a bit too spicy(gringa, remember?) and just nothing… special. I think next time I would either get two pork, or try one of the beef ones(speaking of which, the beef is SHREDDED, not ground, which is ‘authentic Mexican’ as well and preferred by me, so that was nice to see). My particular favs were the pico de gallo and the sour cream(love that they added a few herbs to it rather than just serving it plain, which is fine but bor-ing). I made my order a combo, with a drink and tortilla chips, and it came to just over $ 10, which I think for the amount of food and fresh ingredients is quite reasonable. The chips were good too — a little salty, but def better than the generic, no-name ones that are clearly from a grocery store. I’m not sure when I’ll be back here just because it’s not close to my work or home, but I would actually go out of my way to stop by just because the ingredients and service are so good. Or they could just open a location in Clayton Park…*nudge-nudge*

Honestly? I was super impressed by Habanero’s. Considering my friend and I popped in about 30 minutes into opening day, I was prepared for a) a lineup or longish waiting times and b) some confusion. I was pleasantly surprised to only have to wait a couple minutes to order, and the service was great. I decided to go for the 3 tacos for $ 7-something deal and my friend got nachos. I found the prices very reasonable — more so than Cheesecurds. I decided to experiment with 3 different tacos. Meat aside, I got the same toppings on all three with a little guidance from the servers: lettuce, cheese, corn salsa, medium salsa, guac, hot peppers and plain sour cream. I started off with a classic crispy taco with spiced taco beef. Then I tried a soft taco with pulled pork, and finished with a soft taco with fajita chicken. All 3 were delicious and really hit the spot, but the star of the show was most definitely the pulled pork. It was so flavourful. I’ve been thinking about it ever since and plan to make a trip back very soon. Maybe next time I’ll try a lobster and shrimp taco too. My friend devoured her nachos — she was definitely a fan. The décor is fun and fresh. Mostly counter seating in addition to some picnic tables outside. Habanero’s is a very welcome and needed addition to the Dartmouth dining scene. I can’t wait to go back.

I’ve been looking for a quick take out taco place with good food for years and am hoping that Habeneros will fill what I believe is a gap in the market in Dartmouth. I had the spiced beef chimichanga. It tasted great, though I was a little disappointed that it was premade. My husband had the 3 taco deal and liked them. We shared a nachos; they were really good, though small. I hope in future that they consider offering 2 sizes of the nachos. The staff were helpful and friendly. I will go back again!
