25 juin 2016.

One of the best kept secrets in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. Gorgeous outdoor location and warm ambience that feels both rustic yet sophisticated. I held my wedding reception here in 2008. My guests could not stop raving about the food(duck confit!) and the venue. Perfect for a special occasion or just a lovely meal out. Thank you, Les Fougères!

The Food: 1 glass of wine, coffee, two appetizers, three mains, three desserts, complimentary bread service. 3oz Neige Première 2008 Cidre de Glacé: Whole Wheat Fennel and White with Sea Salt House Butter, Olive Oil, Sea Salt Tomato Soup with Basil and Orange Québec duck foie gras sampler — foie gras terrine pressed with duck and Armagnac macerated prunes, served with maple balsamic syrup; Foie gras mousse with partridgeberry preserve; pan-fried fresh foie gras with rhubarb and rosemary compote Crisped brandade ravioli and garlic chips served on tomato basil coulis with Juniper Farm seedlings Duck, maple syrup and orange tourtière Wild Mushroom and Brie Pie Apple tartlet with maple syrup ice cream and a caramel cage Prune and Armagnac soufflé with prune ice cream and almond financiers Maple syrup pie served with chantilly cream, pears, walnuts Bodum Press of Yirgacheffe Ethiopien The Verdict: Rustic but refined — a space that would not seem out of place in the French countryside — Les Fougeres was a great choice en route from Montréal back to Ottawa and with a lunch menu every bit as enticing as the dinner menu it also proved a veritable bargain for the quality of the food, service, and setting. A restaurant, a market, and a destination given its off-the-beaten-path location Les Fougeres is without a doubt worth the drive to those located in or visiting Ottawa.

I lived in Ottawa for fourteen years — FOURTEENYEARS — and didn’t make it out to Chelsea to try this place. This, despite me considering myself a foodie. This, despite me going to Le Nordik at least a few times a year! After I moved away from Ottawa, I put it out of my mind and accepted that I would never go. It took a going-away party for two friends moving to the UK to get me up from Toronto and across the border(to Quebec) to try this place. There was barely any parking on an early Sunday afternoon, but I managed to squeeze my car in. I was early for my reservation, and so I checked out their amazingly well-stocked shop where you can buy frozen versions of their food and other gourmet goodies. After warming myself up in front of their wood-burning fireplace, our party of ten was seated in the most homey, sun-drenched part of their dining room. The service was amazing with accomodating our tenth guest — our friends’ six-month-old baby. The food was good, too! They offer a special on weekends where for $ 15 you can add an appetizer and a dessert, along with coffee, to your brunch. Unfortunately I was pressed for time and could only fit in a delicious slice of duck maple syrup and orange touritère. I have to say, the more traditional egg-based brunches looked AMAZING. Other than my adorable godson, this place is definitely a reason to make it back up to Ottawa!
