At 245 on a Saturday afternoon, Phở VK is not a busy place– which makes it an ideal spot for a late lunch(and homework spot apparently as three kids sit at other tables doing theirs). I found a Vietnamese dish I liked awhile back, and I don’t think I’ve deviated from it since. My love of all loves is grilled pork and spring rolls on vermicelli noodles. Colour me YUM! So this is my dish of comparison from one Vietnamese place to another. At Phở VK, it’s #35. The grilled pork portion was tasty. The dish had a good helping of it and there was a decent amount of sauce on it. There was something different about the taste of the spring rolls. They had flavour, but a little less something to them than other places. Maybe it’s in the way they were cooked? I enjoyed sitting by the window. Normally, I avoid window seats in the winter, but Phở VK had an old school radiator emanating hot air right next to my table. It was so cozy :). A couple of things I noticed: 1) The tables were slightly uneven. At one point I watched the dish that the sauce for my vermicelli came in slide about 4 inches across the table and stop again. Not a big deal, just don’t put anything too round on the table top. 2) The sauces are in ketchup and mustard containers on each table. That yummy thick brown sauce(what’s it called?) that we all love to pour on top of our noodles is in the mustard container and the hot sauce is in the ketchup container. Red for hot sauce-clever. 3) The giant gold cat waving its paw by the cash register. I love those things! Overall, not a bad spot. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and thanked for visiting as I walked out the door.
