My girlfriend and I came here for Monday lunch. Nice little spot in North Burnaby close to Rosser Centre. We ordered the salmon battera(torched), some nigiris, and sashimi. Everything was prepared and made very well. No complaints at all. Excellent value here too! They have pick 3 for $x special of their menu. If you’re around here, give it a try!

I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve been to this place because I literally live a 2 minute walk from here. I discovered this place from browsing Unilocal one day because I was tired of the options we had around here and wanted something close by. I’m so glad I found Sushi Yoi because I don’t think I’ll ever go to Sushi Garden ever again. Highlights: — Their toro was great; seared toro is $ 1.75/piece which, in my opinion, is quite reasonable. Toro is my favourite type of sashimi so this is a huge plus for me. — They have a great all-day special where you get to pick 3 items from their list for $ 10.45 and you receive a miso soup with that combo as well. This time, we picked Tuna Nigiri(3pcs), Salmon Nigiri(3 pcs), and a Spicy Tuna Roll. — They have really good pressed sushi! FINALLY we don’t have to go all the way to Kishimoto or Miku/Minami for good pressed sushi! I would say that it is very good but probably not to the standards of Kishimoto/Miku/Minami yet, but it’s pretty darn close and for literally a fraction of the price. — Service was decent! I liked all the servers that we came across and they were all happy to help out. — Even the décor was creative — this place was definitely unique and seating was very comfortable. Needless to say, I’m a huge fan. I almost can’t believe that I can get such quality sushi so close to home — it’s actually a dream come true! We’ll definitely be back — I have a feeling it’s going to turn into our regular spot reaaaaal quick!

My regular sushi place recently closed for renovations and my girlfriend was fiending a good roll. We found this place, and ordered the vegetarian combo, spicy California role and a assorted sashimi platter. It was delicious and we would definitely recommend. Eating in is a little unrealistic since the staff stand at the back and it’s not that big, but the food is bomb !

I came here for lunch and it was super busy in here! We managed to get a table pretty quickly though. This place has a huge selection of sushi(specialty and regular rolls), donburi, appies, and other Japanese food — it was so hard to pick what to eat! They also have a lunch special — three items from a list + miso soup for around $ 10. There’s lots of selection on the list which was great. I ended up choosing this and ordered the salmon nigiri, california roll and spicy tuna roll. The salmon pieces on the nigiri were huge and the sushi was alright — not the best that I’ve tried. However I was absolutely stuffed by the end! The lunch special is really great value. I went to the back to use the washroom and in doing so, I passed by the kitchen area. They had a big plate of rice, which they use for sushi, just sitting on the ground. I did get a bit concerned about the cleanliness of the food at this moment. The service was alright, it was quick, which was exactly what we needed to grab lunch and get back to the office. Overall, this place was A-OK, I might come back again for their lunch combo!

Love their new online ordering website. These guys even deliver to SFU, that’s an easy 8 clicks away.

This is close to the station, therefore, totally accessible. I used to come here regularly when I worked in the area. Cheap avocado and veggie rolls. Nothing more for me as I stick to the basic. I used to always take it to go. There is some seating inside, not a lot but some, therefore, this is a grab and go situation. Customer service was always indifferent.

Great sushi for low price. I got the $ 10.45 combo which includes Yam Tempura roll, Negitoro and BC roll with miso soup. Food was good and miso soup was alright. Service was fast. One thing I didn’t like was my food came without ginger at first. I had to call server for ginger and they give me a small portion. It’d been nicer if they gave me generous amount of ginger though.

Great service! Clean and plenty of green tea was offered before and throughout the meal. Their all-day special is a fantastic deal for variety and size(miso soup, 3 pieces of nigiri your choice, smaller sushi roll for $ 10.45). Oh, and the salmon nigiri included a very generous amount of salmon! Yum. The radio was a bit loud, but it was also 3:30 in the afternoon and I was the only one there, so not a real complaint. Would visit again if/when I’m in the area but wouldn’t drive across town for it.

When I finish working out, there a few places where I want to eat to recover my glycogen. This will be one of the places where I would be heading to in order to recover my energy. I have been trying to hunt for the perfect sushi joint for my needs and this is the place for what I am looking for. I ordered their All-Day Special which was 3 pieces of Nigiri Sushi of Tuna and Salmon with 3 pieces of avocado on brown rice sushi($ 2 extra) It came with miso soup as part of their special. The miso soup was alright. Nothing fancy really. When it came down to the main course, the slices of fish were so big, I could have literally wrapped the rice around the sashimi it was that decent. Needless to say, the fresh was conventional fresh. The brown rice was chewy, firm and had some white sushi rice to balance the flavor to prevent it from being disgusting to eat. I can see this place being better for being as a take out place because it is tucked between so many apartments and townhouses. The restaurant itself is kind of small, but it rarely gets busy so there is seating available.

I’ll try not to copy Louise’s review, but since I went here with her, her boyfriend, and my fiancé, it’s a bit hard not to. Especially since her review is on point! To reiterate, the service was great! We were constantly checked up on and our drinks were always refilled. The prices were also great! I got a Maki Combo: 20 pieces of sushi(tuna, salmon and California rolls) for only $ 7.50. My fiancé got the all day special: pick three menu items for $ 9.95. It came with miso soup as well. We also got a bucket of beer for under $ 13! The food was tasty and the restaurant was cozy enough. The sushi was better quality than most«cheap» sushi places I’ve gone to. The next time I’m looking for a cheap sushi fix, I’ll come back here!

It was a double date night with my boyfriend, my girlfriend and her fiancée. My girlfriend picked Sushi Yoi because it was in-between where we are both located. We are both Unilocal’ers and love to pick places to eat based on the reviews we read and post:) When we got there they had a reserved table for us, service was great, always filling up our teas and what not. My boyfriend and I ordered the Awesome Roll, along with some other rolls and Sashimi it was all really good and fresh tasting. They had good buck of beer special which all enjoyed as well. Prices were decent, not overly priced. Good casual place to eat. They even had TVs there as well, which is nice to see — it creates more of a relaxing atmosphere, rather than just«eat and leave», like some places. I would definitely go back to Sushi Yoi, it’s funny I use to work very close by BUT would always pick to eat Sushi Garden. Sushi Yoi is better quality and service than Sushi Garden and best of you aren’t rushed eating there, you can take your time. Always wanted to try Sushi Yoi and was very pleased with quality of food and service. Just park at the Madison Centre, if you don’t want to pay for parking;) This is North Burnaby’s hidden sushi gem, definitely a must try for casual sushi eats!

Cheap, fresh sushi what else can you ask for. Service is fast and servers are polite. I like the agedashi tofu and oishi sushi(aburi). Seared sushi is always expensive but not at this joint. For quick sushi fix I recommend this place.

Looks like Hiro Sushi up at Hastings and Boundary has some competition for value sushi. In some ways this place is so similar to Hiro, I’m actually wondering if the owners of this place once owned Hiro. Parking is available on the streets after 2000. There is also free parking in the nearby parkade, though I didn’t know this until after I stepped inside. It’s advertised on their chopstick packages. The inside is pretty classy, with a giant swordfish over the front counter. Staff were friendly. As mentioned, the food is extremely similar to that of Hiro, except everything costs a tiny bit more. For example, the all day special here is 75c more, and the list of available items is very similar as well. I decided to do an apples-to-apples comparison, and ordered the same items as I normally do at Hiro. Miso soup — this place has green onions, and more seaweed. Hiro has mostly just miso, and no green onions. Beef teriyaki rice — the broccoli here is thinner, but the beef is fluffier. Portion seems a bit smaller here too. Chopped scallop roll — decent taste. Similar to Hiro. BC roll — roll is much heavier on the lettuce here. The other major difference between Yoi and Hiro is that Yoi is closed on Sundays. There you have it. Another option for those who want a decent cheap sushi fix.

Seared saba and toro nigiri were delish and affordable. Might return just to try the other seared pieces. Chopped scallop roll is not bad. Assorted Tempura was average but arrived hot at least. Tuna salmon sashimi was quite fresh and tuna pieces were big. Overall decent place and I’ll be back to try the rest of their seared sushi pieces as the price is lower than other places and I really enjoyed the piece of toro I tried this time around.

Pro: — They have an all day lunch special 3 items+miso soup for ~$ 10 — Good place for pick up and delivery Con: — Service sucks, don’t ever eat in unless you have 2 hours to spare; We ordered the lunch special, and it took them half an hour to give us the miso soup(and we went after lunchtime, when the place was not packed) — There’s a lot of waitresses, but I don’t know what they are busy doing. I waved my hand for 5−10min, but they all conveniently walked right past without noticing If you don’t want takeout from Sushi Garden(which is only a few minutes away from this place), then sure, go to Sushi Yoi. If you want to eat in, make sure you do it on your day off, and expect that they will treat you as if you are invisible.

Not bad for the office crowd. The aburi is pretty and tasty, portions are generous. My friends often go for the three items(from a pre set list) for $ 8.99 at lunch. Nigri sushi, rolls and sashimi can be found on the list. They also have lunch boxes and a la carte items. Decent selection for the size of the restaurant.

Come here regularly for lunch. Amazing prices and good value for what you’re paying. Their all day combo(3 items for $ 8.95) is awesome! there’s tons of options and it’s not just one from each column. you can pick ANY3 — how’s that for options? There have been a couple of times where I have found small hairs in my food but it doesn’t deter me from coming back since they’re really nice here and they responded well when I let them know about the hair. My faves are the agedashi tofu, the salmon tempura roll, and the green salad! Check out my picture — it has avocado and the portion size is huge. The bento boxes are an unbelievable deal! You get 4 different items in a box they really don’t cheap out on portions. I’ve done eat in and take out here both are great. If you’re in the neighbourhood stop by you won’t regret it. They also do delivery but not at peak hours like lunch and it has to be a minimum 25 $ order I think.

Sushi Yoi is good. I would come here over sushi garden any time. Walked in without any expectations but I was super impressed :) Everything is priced well and delicious. We had the awesome roll, the $ 8.95 special(which is fantastic), ebi sunomo, and cream corn croquettes(also fantastic). With two drinks and tip plus tax we paid a little less than $ 30. Service wasn’t that great but we were amused by how the waitress(we assumed she was the owner’s daughter) so obviously didn’t want to be there. Will be coming back!

Hidden gem, superior to other sushi places nearby on both quality and value. Service is reasonable to good, prices are notably low, food is fresh & well prepared, definitely better than one would expect for the price. The grilled squid is awesome, neither too salty nor too rich, very delicious. My go-to sushi spot in the area. Pro tip: $ 8.95 three-item special plus one bento combo will comfortably feed two average-sized MEC-wearing west coasters.

Why haven’t I come here before? Don’t let this be your statement. Tonight I tried their $ 8.95 all day special where you choose 3 items and get miso soup included. The miso is fantastic chunks of tofu, sprinkles of chopped green onion and enough miso to leave just the perfect amount of flavor on your tongue. I ordered ebi sunomono(wow both mini shrimp and a large halved prawn-unthinkable elsewhere!) and did I say just how big that alone was!!! I ordered spicy salmon roll(8 pieces!) and yam tempura roll(8 pieces!?) in the combo. Fantastic taste. Huge pieces. You wanna be here.
