Okay so I was waiting for a movie with my friends at Metrotown mall and decide to eat something other than the stuff you found in food court, aaaand we decide to go to this wonderful place called Sekai. The food is pretty good, although not really worth it for the price and SOME of the waiters were giving an okay service. BUT this lady behind the register were having a face as in she saw me and my friends just finished stabbing a dog or something. She were giving us sour looks and since we are splitting the bills, the bill was separated into segments of the paper but slightly connected. Instead of separating the bills, she waited for all the bills to finish printing. But I wouldn’t give such a low score just for this trivial act of annoyances. No she THREW the bill at us and we were shocked that she would do that. After I saw this I obviously didn’t tip them because I was surprised that someone working in the service industry would treat their customer this way. BUTTHATISNOTALLFOLKS. After I paid for my food and wait outside of the restaurant for my friends who is still paying, one of my friend came out and told me that the person behind the register want to talk to me. So I was thinking if I left my wallet or something. But no, she was complaining why I didn’t give tips and how will the servers get their money if I didn’t tip them(ya she actually said that). I was a little pissed at that moment so we argue pretty long(she argues while being sarcastic which actually pisses me off more) and I said look I can tip you now If you want and it will settle everything, but she refuses and say that she didn’t want it, she want me to remember to tip every time regardless of the service you got. This got me mad and I told her how she treats her customer like nothing and I would never step foot there again. I never wrote a review before but this experience certainly made me want to share how patience-testing the service you will get from Sekai, the best place to go when you are trying to bust a vein.

After a day of shopping at Metrotown mall, my friend & I were craving Japanese food so we decided to come here for dinner. I had been here once before(quite a long time ago) and remembered having a tasty creamy udon here back then. This time, we did not get any udon. Instead, we ordered a bunch of items to share: Field greens salad, takoyaki, Philadelphia roll, Roppongi roll, and deep fried baby octopus. The rolls were really average tasting. Not bad but not great either. Takoyaki & baby octopus were also just ok in taste. Salad was a waste of money since it looked & tasted exactly like those supermarket salad kits. Service was non-existent. Restaurant wasn’t busy and there were lots of servers but somehow it wasn’t easy to flag any of them down. I might come back again, but I’ll probably stick to ordering just udon next time.

Food quality is good! But not good enough that the price has to be high. I got a chicken teriyaki don for $ 12 so yeah. Not worth

The service isn’t that great … The food isn’t that great either… I ordered curry udon and my friend ordered the creamy udon and some sides. It felt like we were gonna have a heart attack with the heavy broth.

I was really looking forward to try their fresh udon, and have some tempura bar, the way they do it in Japan, self serve, but it wasn’t as exciting as my last time in Fukuoka. Food: I’ll give them a 7. Service: attentive, servers were kind and provide a good service. Ambience: is good, tables are quite big so you have privacy. Price: 9 – 12 dollars for Udon a little bit to much

I think this is the best udon restaurant I’ve been to. I live in Vancouver and I would travel to Burnaby just to have their udon. Their udon is freshly homemade and it’s chewy and not too soft to the point where it breaks easily. The broth is tasty and not overly salty. I ordered the beef udon and the tempura flakes that is topped on the udon makes the bowl of noodles extra fragrant. The service was good and they were very attentive with topping up tea.

Thee worst Japanese food we have ever had in our lives. $ 80 was wasted. We ordered udon noodles, sashimi, California rolls, beef dish that had rice on the bottom & a poached egg in the middle, a few different types of soups. We ate only a few bites and left to pay our bill. We were all left starving after that. Never again will we go to this place. We were shopping all day long at the mall & came across this restaurant. Even starving, we could not down our food! awful food.

I give this 4 stars because of the dessert. Yes I’m starting with dessert. I love love love the deep fried banana with ice cream. It reminds me of what my mom used to make in the Philippines called«Turon». You Filipinos out there would know. It’s sooo good specially with vanilla ice cream. This an udon bar I know but I come here for the salmon oshi sushi. Do you know how expensive this is from Minami? Whenever I crave for oshi or aburi sushi this is where I go. Not the same quality as Minami but it will do. My mom loves the chicken karaage. You know how old people like their food soft right? The chicken karaage here are tender and boneless! I would definitely recommend specially when Metrotown food court is packed. You spend the same amount of money here and you dont have to hurry eating because someone else is waiting for a table.

J and I were at metrotown for the movie, but we arrived way too early. So, we just wanted to have some early light dinner before the movie. We didn’t have many options inside the mall, but Sekai seemed to be good so we decided to give it a try. Although Sekai is more popular for their udon, I couldn’t resist Salmon Sashimi(9pcs — $ 12) when I saw it on the menu. Unlike my expectation, it was actually really fresh and strong in flavours(4.0÷5.0). I was so excited to see White Tuna on the menu, so I ordered it as well. However, it was just regular Albacore Tuna which I don’t like much. When I asked about it, the waitress responded in such a courteous manner, and removed it from the bill. They don’t offer a wide range of sashimi options so it might not be the best place to have raw fish here. J got a Tonkatsu Udon($ 12.50) which comes in a hot pork & chicken broth with 2 slices of chashu, chopped green onions, baby bok choy, and a soft-boiled egg. The soup is a bit weak in flavour but glad it wasn’t too salty. The udon noodles were not too bad but lacked the chewiness. The chashu was pretty good and well-seasoned. Their soft-boiled egg was perfect as the yolk was mostly set and a bit runny in the middle(3.0÷5.0). I wasn’t too hungry on the day so I planned to have sashimi only with some beer. However, as I kept drinking I started craving some greasy food. I ordered their Japoutine($ 6.75) which is basically Japanese style pourtine consisting of tempura battered fries with mozzarella cheese and gravy. It was pretty tasty! The fries were really different from what I’ve used to have. Very large pieces with crunchy texture but still soft and moist on the inside. Generous portion sizes and lots of cheese!(3.5÷5.0). PROS + Decent food + Great service RATING Food 3.5÷5.0 Ambience 3.0÷5.0 Service 4.0÷5.0 Price $ Address: 236‑4820 Kingsway, Burnaby(Metrotown Ground Level, next to Pet Habitat & Bay) Phone number: 604−433−7881 Hours of Operation: Monday — Sunday 11am to 9pm

I’ll be honest to say that I didn’t even know this was an Udon bar, I must have probably skipped over that part of the name cause I ordered sushi when I was here. The sushi is alright, Nothing really spectacular, I felt like it was just like any other sushi Japanese restaurant. The waitress are about getting you seated and feeding you. They don’t really come by the check how everything is tasting. They refilled my tea once — out of the whole time. Next time maybe I’ll try the Udon.

Wow… so torn on the rating(damn you lack of ½ stars!). Given it’s spot inside a mall, and just down from the food court, it is definitely a step up from that kind of competition. You can sit down comfortably out of the flow of traffic, and be served food you didn’t risk spilling on your way to a dirty table. It’s billed as an udon bar… but the menu isn’t very authentic to a Japanese restaurant, and some of their udon are basically ramen dishes with udon noodles substituted in. The wife had a cheap beer special and an udon dish… I had just water(not a beer fan) and one of those udon takes on ramen… we split a croquette appetizer(straight from freezer!!! oh yeah!) with a side of curry sauce(huh?). All of it was ok… definitely not going out of my way to come here if I’m hankering Japanese home cooking(I’m coming your way Hi Genki!)… but as opposed to KFC or Burger King in the food court… a way better option. Final result… a 2 ½ star place bumped to 3 because of it’s neighbours.

Instead of a ramen bar, it’s an udon bar and I like it. Sekai Udon Bar is located inside Metrotown so there’s plenty of free parking and it’s easy to get to. They serve udon in soup(choices of white or whole wheat udon), sushi and a few appetizers. I’ve had a few of their dishes and I’d say they’re not bad. Prices are fair for what you get and the portion is decent. My favorite is their Tonkotsu Udon which is in pork and chicken broth with chashu(bbq pork), onions, bok choy, and green onions. The broth is flavorful and comforting. They do have to work on their customer service though. I’ve been here 3 times and 1 time, I had excellent service, but the other 2 were slightly below average.

Tried this place sadly hoping to fulfill my udon bar cravings from a place in Hawaii. I was sadly disappointed. The food wasn’t gross but it was nothing special in any way. Not very memorable as I can’t even remember what I had and I was just there a few months ago. The prices were not extremely worth the ‘blah’ food and I’d probably much rather spend that money at a japanese restaurant that has udon and other items. The service was okay at best, they weren’t overly friendly and didn’t understand me much even for simple questions and our food didn’t come out appropriately because two of us were almost finished our food before the last person got it… And we tried to wait for it all together but couldn’t. Don’t think I’d come back.

Not too shabby but definitely not fantastic. The inside is nice and the service is pretty good as well. I tried the curry udon and the cream udon. Flavour wise they were both really good but I didn’t like how thick the broth was. The broth was also really oily for both. The noodles were kind of a weird texture. I’d come again next time to try thier sushi. Sekai is one of the better places to eat in the mall.

I’ve ordered Tantan Udon($ 10 or 11) and Sekai Roll($ 7.50). Their Tantan Udon was spicy and noodle was good. It was chewy in al dente form. Sekai Roll was very good and yummy. Good food, clean interior and fast service. One thing I didn’t like was the price. I find it expensive and the bill came to $ 19 in total. I wanted to give 4 stars but 3 stars because of the price.
