I wasn’t expecting much for a small place on a small island, but at least it wasn’t disappointing. Just kind of average. I went with my mother and her friend around noon and in total we had 3 bottles of wine, an order of calamari, a pound of shrimp, and lemon pepper fried chicken. The wine was whatever. An understandable price for Canada. The calamari was spectacular and the batter was wonderfully light. The chicken was fine, but came out to us a little cold. As for the shrimp, which was their«daily special», it wasn’t very good. $ 25 for a pound and they were tiny. Plus a large portion hadn’t been deveined. Oy vey. I did have a great time though and our server was pretty good, so I think if you were on the island for a short while this would be the place to go. But I didn’t try anything else on Bowen, so I can’t compare it to any other restaurant.

Doc Morgan’s is a good sensible Bistro-Bar, with enjoyable Food and Drink and great ambiance, where one can meet intelligent Locals and Global Visitors to Bowen Island. My last visit two days ago, I made friends with people from the U.S. who were on their way to Volunteer in Asia. We had good chat, about World Travel; Brazil, Africa and Polynesia, while sitting near the open fireplace, and dining with a few drinks, sharing experiences. On sunny days the view of Snug Cove, the Marina, Howe Sound and Mountains is Five Star. Most likely your best stop while visiting Bowen Island. I live here. C. Charles Rudd Fine Artist

Decent food, great location with a nice patio, and very friendly staff. We ended up in this place duo to the nice location by the water. I had a salmon burger with green salad and it was a very decent dish. The salmon was very good. As dessert, I had a chocolate cake with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. The dessert wasn’t in the menu, but the waiter told us that it was something close to $ 6(i don’t really remember the exact value). We ordered and it was delicious. But we had a surprise when the waiter brought the bill. They charged separately the ice cream that came with the chocolate cake($ 4 more)! I don’t mind paying for that at all, but nobody told us about that or asked us if we wanted to add the ice cream. Weird. Except this small surprise, it is a good place for a lunch.

Great location close to the ferry & marina. Excellent beer on tap and good pub food. Does get busy but staff are attentive and view from the deck is good enough that you don’t mind drinking while the food comes. Make sure you don’t miss the weekend bbq as the ribs are something special!

When you walk in it has a weird smell. We were at Bowen Island hiking on Sunday and there are hardly any restaurants open. I had a fish and chips and on the side there were coleslaw. The fish and chip was ok but i loved the coleslaw the most. Its different then any other coleslaws I had. The portion is pretty decent. But it was the cheapest thing on the menu. We sat on the balcony and it was nice and breezy. The waitress doesn’t seem to be around when we need something.

You can’t beat the location — it’s been ages since I have been here but I’m keen to start lining up some summer activities. The place is a bit rambling but I like that — a bit noisier on the patio but then you can find other nooks and crannies to enjoy. At the very least it is a good spot to drop by for a pint or two before grabbing your bike and heading to the ferry.

Came here for food and beer after hiking Mount Gardner. On the plus side, the place is clean and serves local beer. However, food was less than stellar. We ordered a ‘pound’ of wings, ‘hot’ style. For $ 14, I assumed we’d get some nice sized wings. Instead, we got puny McNugget sized wings. To make things worse, we had to pay an extra $ 1 for blue cheese dressing. There was no flavor to any of it. Nice setting, but poor value.

We had the fish & chips and the fish(cod) was very good with a decent portion size and good, batter. The«chips» were shoestring french fries, unfortunately, and likely frozen. Coles slaw was fresh and good. Overall not bad at all for $ 14, especially after a good hike, but real chips from fresh potatoes would have got an extra star from this reviewer. The beer selection was good and well-priced. I quite enjoyed my Howe Sound King Heffy. The location is terrific, close to the ferry terminal and with a great deck overlooking Snug Cove. We were lucky enough to sit outside but the indoor seating was quite charming with pleasant nautical décor. Overall well worth a try at the end(or middle) of a day on Bowen.

Great new management. Thanks Howe Sound Brewing for saving an icon waterfront destination restaurant. Thanks Steph for great advice on the wine and specials. And for looking after my steak!

Was a little bit worried about doc Morgan’s after reading some of the reviews on Unilocal but my grandpa was coming over to Bowen to check out my new pad and doc Morgan’s holds sentimental value for him so we went there for lunch. We walked in and were greeted and seated right away. The décor looked fine — it kind of reminded me of a boat. Music was some sort of jazz — seemed fine. Server was attentive — always filling up our water glasses(I like that). Best part was the food though! I had a veggie burger with yam fries. The veggie burger was a decent size and the amount of yam fries was massive! They took up half the plate!(I love yam fries). Best part of it all was that I got a super tasty meal for only $ 12. That’s cheap compared to Vancouver prices for such things(and also better value than the other 2 places I’ve eaten at on Bowen). My husband had the Cajun chicken breast burger with salad and my grandpa had the fish and chips. They both also liked their food. We got there for a fairly early lunch so I didn’t order any alcoholic bevies but next time I go ill definitely be ordering a cocktail since I noted the ultra cheap(for a good pub) price of $ 6.50 for a cocktail with 2 shots of booze. I just moved to bowen from downtown vancouver a few months ago and I think that doc Morgans is just super.

I came here today with my partner and we were both thoroughly disappointed and actually walked away with very upset stomachs from the food. AVOIDTHISPLACE! There is definitely better food to be found on Bowen. The only positive that I see in the entire experience I had here is that it was a sunny day and we were sitting on the patio, which is really nice. So I guess that is worth 1 star. The server we had was hopeless. He came back to clarify what we had ordered and then managed to put it through so that our meals came out separately — mine not coming out until about 5 minutes after my boyfriends. No apology was given regarding this, we were just advised by the girl delivering the food that our server had made a mistake. Normally, I would forgive this, but not when combined with everything else. I ordered the fish tacos and they were the most horrible fish tacos I have ever eaten, which is disappointing given how simple a dish it is. Something was not right with the fish — the little taste that it did have was not right and has made me feel quite ill for the rest of the day. It was pretty much cardboard that had been defrosted and microwaved(that is what it tasted like anyway). The rest of the taco was very bland too. I only ate ¾ of one taco and the rest was left on the plate. When I gave my feedback regarding the fish to the server he really didn’t seem to care and I doubt it was passed on to the kitchen. I don’t think I have ever left ½ my meal on my plate because of how disgusting it tasted and cannot remember the last time I had a bad experience eating out — normally in BC we are spoilt for choice with great food options, so I normally choose not go back to a place because it was only average(not horrible, as it was in this case). So, if you are on Bowen Island and are looking for food — DONOT come here as you may end up getting sick like I have today. If you are just after a beer, the patio is great. I will never be back.

As a local Bowen Islander, this place is a bit of an embarassment… it has been known to run out of beer and ingredients for their offerings, and the waitstaff is definitely hit and miss. I understand that it’s hard to find staff over here but this place is a joke. Recently they reopened after closing midsummer, and are now serving fish and chips, with the patio upstairs for adults and the lower patio for families. Good idea but could we get some creativity on the food/staff/efficiency side please? It’s a stunning locale and quite comfortable if the music is not so loud you can’t have a conversation, so try it out, but don’t stay if it’s a bad day…

We came here mid-May on a lovely Sunday day trip to Bowen Island and were looking forward to sitting outside and enjoying some oysters which were being promoted on their chalkboard. We walk in and ask for an outside table. We’re told to just wait a few minutes, and someone would get a table ready for us. From where were were standing, we could see a table that was available. We waited nearly 10 minutes for that table and finally asked again if we could just be seated. This time our response was — yes, I think your table is ready. Okay… Nothing had happened to «ready» the table in the time we’d been waiting for it. But okay… So then we sat down. No one came by with menus or water. We looked around at all the other tables and noticed no one had food. A lot of grumbling was taking place about the lack of service. How strange since inside, there were several waitstaff just standing around the bar talking to each other. Finally someone comes by and we ask for water and menus. We’re told there is no menu as it was being created still — a new chef had just started THAT day. The server said he’d be back to let us know what the options are and asked one of the girls standing around to give us water. We heard from the table next to us that the options were limited to a few things which were basically burger, fish and chips, etc. No salads, no oysters, nothing that we really felt was worth sitting around and waiting for. I can’t rate the food as I never got any. We decided to leave. At that point, we had already wasted 25 minutes and gotten nowhere. I understand it was a new chef — but was the management and waitstaff new also? What’s with the lack of service? No thanks — I won’t be coming back here.

The best place to eat on Bowen Island! Doc Morgan’s is located close to the ferry docks so after a long day of hiking and exploring, you want to be close to the docks to be on time to cruise home. The food was pretty standard pub food and nothing stood out, but you definitely go for the location and view. My friends and I decided to have some beers and snacks on the patio. It was relaxing staring out at the boats under the sun. There are patio umbrellas as well in case you don’t want the sun to be directly on your head.

My wife, myself an our little daughter enjoyed a great meal at Doc’s this past Saturday night. We’ve been coming here for years and in the past 3 years the high prices and mediocre service has turned us away — our experience Saturday was very different. The place had it’s old energy back with a neat mix of locals and visiting boaters and a warm and cozy atmosphere(no doubt helped by the $ 4 beer specials, $ 5 martini’s and $ 2 shots). The food was excellent and the service was prompt and friendly. If you haven’t been in a while — give it a go, we had an awesome night !

Best Ribs Ever! I love ribs and have tried them all over vancouver so this is saying a lot. I also had the fish and chips another time I was there, the fries were superb! The server was this sweet girl who was attentive and informative, we were those annoying people who moved tables after we ordered but she was so nice about it. I have dreams about the Guinness chocolate cake I had here, it was just like a warm fluffy brownie, so rich mmmm! I live in Vancouver but will gladly do the ferry thing for Doc Morgans. Oh and the live music on the patio was amazing, the young woman singing had the most enchanting and ethereal voice, me and my boyfriend were both talking about her voice well after dinner. It made the night feel very special even though it already was because we were celebrating our anniversary.

We had been warned about this place but we just wanted drinks(tea & beer), so we decided to risk it. The surly waitress claimed they didn’t have a drink menu(which we later found to be false). The water for the tea was lukewarm, and it took her over 10 minutes to bring us more. Give this place a miss.

key location, right on the water when you get off the ferry, complete with a beautiful patio. i would imagine it’s a key spot in the summer! we got in today and there were four other tables. we were a large party but with it being so empty, i didn’t figure it would be a problem. service was prompt to take our order and get our drinks. they have some absolutely delicious iced tea, i would definitely recommend it! our food took for forever to come out. three cups of chowder came out after ~45 minutes and weren’t hot. our food came out shortly afterwards and overall was meh. our orders of fish and chips were mixed up and a spare plate of fish was brought out as all 2 pc orders only came with one. i had the cod and it was very mushy, both the fish and the batter. the little cup of coleslaw was very wet with vinegar but otherwise was okay. mine spilled over and soaked into my luke-warm fries which made it easier to deside not to eat them. we had dessert and ordered the last three pieces they had — 2 caramel apple pie a la mode and 1 ny cheesecake. i only had the apple pie and other than the caramel drizzled over the top, there wasn’t much caramel or spice taste in the pie. the crust was nice though and saved the dish. overall, i would try a different restaurant next time i’m over there but would definitely visit the patio for a drink.

Mmmmm nice honey pale ale. I didn’t get what company brewed it though. It was on tap. The scenery is nice and it’s really close to the ferry docks so it’s great for grabbing a quick pint before you get on the ferry to Vancouver. Service was pretty quick too. They have all sorts of seating arrangements: outside on upstairs patio, outside on downstairs patio, inside upstairs, and inside downstairs. It’s pretty big. I’ll be back the next time I’m on Bowen Island.
