Eu amo o Mani!

Food is great. But the wait. Wow. Normally restaurants have their restaurant figured out. Not Mani. 2 ½ hours wait. Was told 1 hour by host. No food or drinks offered to offset the pain. Cars valet parked. A little harder than«I’ll just go somewhere else» type situation. Worst part was host came to us to say somebody was paying and it still took another hour. The waiting area is huge. Probably smarter to just go there for drinks & finger food. And it appears they are making a killing on the 25 people sitting in idle, for hours, ordering their 3rd appetizer and 3rd cocktail.

Absolutely fabulous tasting menu and pairing. Including tapas, there were 16 courses. The food was easily as good as D.O.M. and a higher ranking on the world list would be appropriate. Our waiter did not speak much English, but he gave it his best. They did pull another staff to explain our dishes. A little on the loud side, but tolerable. It was worth the trip to Sao Paulo.

Recomendado a casais e datas especiais. Caro, mas vale cada centavo.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to, an obligatory stop for any food lover that finds itself in Sao Paulo. The setting is very charming and the price very reasonable for a restaurant of that quality(around 160 – 170 reais for a three course meal with a glas of wine). As for the food, really amazing, I had the beef on chips with a bit of mustard for an appetizer, lamb with veggies and farofa for main course and blueberry icecream, presentation — great! Yum yum yum.,

When I found out that Mani is top 50 restaurants of the world, I couldn’t be there fast enough. We tried for weeks to get a reservation and it was impossible esp during World Cup time when we were visiting Sao Paolo. We decided to take our chances and showed up at 3:30 pm on a Sunday(they close at 4 to turn around for dinner service). They not only sat us within 5 minutes but not once rushed us out… we were there till almost 5:30/6. Had a marvelous brunch, pleasant professional service and impeccable food. The ambiance is light and airy and you just know you are in another world. Worth every penny. I wish this existed in the U.S. Sheer perfection, bravo Mani!

Mani manages to pull off thoughtfully creative dishes with impeccable execution. The food is modern and perfectly blends in ingredients from Brazil. Highlights included foie gras with a guava shell and fill, yucca gnocchi and the daily fish with plantains. This combined with an elegant and a dining room that is just casual enough makes for a great meal.

In my top-3 of Sao Paulo restaurants. Food is great, and atmosphere(semi-outdoor space, quite informal) is very nice as well. Not too busy at lunch time but worth getting a reservation in advance no matter what. Did I tell you food was great?

Absurdamente bom. As sobremesas magnificas. Vale a pena o preço. Serviço bom e com atenção. Recomendo.

By far the best restaurant in Sao Paulo and one of the best I’ve ever been too(and I’ve been to some nice places!). Some may call me an addict, but I make sure to go to Mani every time I’m in SP and I can’t stop raving about it! You can call ahead to make a reservation, which is highly recommended since the place is small and walk-ins may need to wait an hour or more. The place is very cute and homey. The front part of the dining room has a thatched roof, which creates the modern rustic décor. The back has a few more tables and is less bright but still very airy. The service is terrific, especially if you manage to flag down someone who speaks English(which is rare). Their English is choppy but good enough to get by. They also have English menus for those of us not well-versed in Portuguese food. Now onto the most important part of the restaurant: the drinks and food! This review is going to accumulate the food I’ve had over multiple visits. Drink — there is a lychee cocktail that is simply divine. Imagine sipping on a fresh lychee. It is that good. The drink is not too viscous nor is it too liquid. The amount of alcohol is also perfect and does not overpower the delicate lychee flavor. They also make excellent virgin juices — try the mango and passion fruit. Many places do this juice, but Mani uses very fresh ingredients and not too much sugar. Food — where to start! For appetizers, the egg perfecto is just that — perfect. The egg comes out inexactly the shape of its shell, and the yolk is a little runny. It is bathed in a pool of pupunha foam whose texture and light taste is a perfect complement to the egg. The Jabuticaba cold soup was good and interesting. Jabuticaba is a grape-type of fruit that is only found in Brazil(or so I’ve been told). The soup was a little tangy and sweet, and the addition of the shrimp made it unique. The gnocchi with roots was excellent and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted, in the best of ways. The gnocchi was soft and melted in my mouth. The light broth it came in added subtle and aromatic flavor to the gnocchi, each of which was topped with an herb. This is one of my favorites at Mani. For the main, get the catch of the day cooked with bananas and manioc flour. It is one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had. The manioc flour is crusted on the delicate white fish, which sits in a broth made from bananas. The banana is simmered to a perfect consistency such that the flavor and texture balance the fish. I could not stop eating this dish and wanted to order seconds despite being stuffed — that’s how amazing this fish is. The lamb was also good and came with a variety of root vegetables and manioc flour as well. It was cooked medium rare and was very juicy and flavorful. The portion was large but not too big. The heart of palm noodles was good but a little on the salty side. Instead of slicing the heart of palm into round slices as is common, they shave it so it comes out in a mound of «noodles» to which they add parmesan and truffle oil. The truffle flavor comes through bold and strong but is not overpowering. For dessert, get the egg, which isn’t really an egg. It is yellow eggnog ice cream scooped in the shape of the egg. It is thick and creamy and perfection. The coconut foam and crisps are presented in round circles around the yellow«yolk» to resemble an egg, or a flower. The foam and crisps are an amazing addition to add crunch and airiness to the creamy ice cream. The dish was not too sweet and VERYDELICIOUS! One of the best desserts I’ve had. The acai was also very good — not too sweet and blended to a perfect consistency. They use fresh acai as opposed to frozen stuff, so this dessert was delicious. The da lama ao caos was interesting — it was eggplant with cheese, pistachios, orange tree flower jelly, shredded phyllo, and a scoop of black sesame ice cream. I think they tried to do too much with this dish and the flavors went kind of crazy, especially for someone who doesn’t like salty in her dessert. The black sesame ice cream was amazing though, as was the presentation dish. Please do yourself a favor and go to Mani. You won’t regret it.

I came here with my girlfriend for my 31st birthday. I read a ton about Mani beforehand so I knew what to expect. We both ordered the chef’s tasting menu which was around R$ 400 a person. Although the entire dining experience was wonderful, there were definitely some pluses and minuses. The thing that stood out the most was how disappointed I was with the desserts. They were almost too creative and unique, so some of the flavors were not that satisfying. That said the overall experience was great and the venue is so beautiful and cozy.
