Due to an error on our end, we arrived a day later than our rafting reservation. While we had booked online just 24 hours before, and tried to call/email our delay, we didn’t receive a response. Enjoy our saga below: Stop at Macuco Safari at National Park entrance. We our told to go to the 3rd stop on the bus. Stop at 3rd stop, a whole Macuco center. Speak with e ticket agent, who cannot find our reservation. She speaks good English, and confirms that we actually need to walk about 2/10ths of a mile up the road, because we are only doing rafting(as opposed to the popular boat only trip, or boat/rafting trip). Walk 2/10ths of a mile up the road. Immediately get turned back my a delightful Macuco safari employee who quickly clarifies we need to get back on the bus and go up a full stop(name few miles up the road). Walk back to the macuco stop! wait for and get on bus. Go up one stop. Find rafting booth. Get told we need vouchers. Get directed ½ mile on a random path through light jungle that takes us to another macuco stand. There, we meet Maisa and one other woman. Maisa was the highlight of the experience. Our reservation in their computer system, although found easily, was royally screwed up due to the date change, and Maisa easily spent one hour on the phone with her main office and us, communicating and resolving the problem. It was a frustrating hour, but we very much appreciated Maisa’s patience, and willingness to go between Portuguese, her limited English, and our limited Spanish to ultimately get the issue resolved. Now onto rafting!!! I read reviews not rip advisors indicating that the guides spoke little English. This was not true: the entire operation was run smoothly. Items were stored in waterproof bags and trailed you in a speed boat. The guide went through a number of English commands. The rapids were relatively small(level II to easy III by my rafting experience). Once we got through the two main rapids and some very small ones following them, we got to jump out of the raft, grab a rope, and float down the iguacu river. The floating down a canyon flanked by waterfalls and rainforest alone was worth the price of our trip. All in all, once the reservation issues were resolved, it was an amazing and unforgettable experience, and is highly recommended. As a disclaimer, all four of us are in our mid-20’s and In good health and shape. 3 people did fall out of the raft during the rapids, and were quickly pulled back in by other rafters, however this may not be the best trip for those who are not in good physical health or feel uncomfortable in open water.
