Aeroporto sem estrutura! Cheguei e tive que desembarcar no meio da pista e andar muito até chegar para pegar as malas. Possui somente 2 esteiras e parece sempre vazio! No meu retorno a decepção foi ainda maior! Você passa pelo raio x antes de fazer o check in! Não gostei, pois não tinha estrutura.

This is the airport on the Brazilian side of the falls that can be utilized to see either side of the falls(so long as you have your visas). It’s larger than the Argentinean airport and has 4 carriers(Azul, LAN, Tam, and Gol) and 20 flights a day. The Argentinean airport(Aeropuerto Internacional Cataratas del Iguazú) by contrast only does 8 flights a day and is serviced by 2 arilines(Aerolinea Argentina and LAN). Relative to other airports, is seems small, but it’s main attraction is for tourists to come and see the falls. It has a limited number of restaurants(a couple inside the terminal past security) and a couple small cafes upstairs before going through security. Security screening is very simple, xray of bags and later after the check-in counters, a restriction of liquids(over 100mL) and the typical(no knives, fireworks, scissors etc). I would recommend getting something to eat at your hotel or tourist site(bird park, national park, etc) but grabbing a snack here is also possible. The café upstairs has decent coffee and the restaurant inside has typical sandwiches and decent pao de queijo. There’s wifi, but only available with paid services(TIM, Oi, Boingo).

For the popularity of this destination as a big tourist spot in Brazil, I honestly expected better. I realize that this airport was not going to be of the same level as Guarulhos or Tom Jobim Airports, but this is more like the airport I would expect if I were going to a small, little known city. My main beef with the airport really had more to do with Gol Airlines and their horrific wait for check in, despite there being 6 or 7 agents at the desk. It was perhaps the most disorganized ordeal of my entire trip — badness. Make sure you schedule a LOT of time to be able to deal with the check-in process. TAM Airlines didn’t look much better as far as customer service. Once you check in, the waiting area isn’t terrible — there is a Casa do Pao de Queijo, which has really tasty Pao de Queijo(cheese bread) and panini. It’s a good value, and very tasty — plus, you can grab a cold beer while you wait. Free Wi-Fi would go a long way. I’m not sure where I read that it was going to be free, but I had to pay something like $ 10 for the day to have access, which in the end, was almost worth it for my long wait.
