Had a lovely Sunday afternoon with friends. I would have loved a glass of muscato, but there was none. My main course of snapper(cold) was just so-so. Delicious dessert but at $ 50 for a shared entrée, main and dessert(no wine) a tad on the expensive side.

The place: Beautiful spot, perfect surrounds to sit and have a bite or a glass and soak in some relaxing green hill views, or check out the interesting artwork that decorates inside and out. The staff: Busy cellar door, so we had a tag-team of staffers serving us our tasting between helping other visitors, but all were nice and friendly. The wine: A little light-on for me. Found the whites lacking zest and the Pinot Noir’s watery. Might just be that those with more refined palates can find some intricacy there that I missed, or that almost every wine we tasted was recommended to put down for to cellar for some time, but they just didn’t knock my socks off. Still worth a visit.

Our visit to Yabby Lake was a swift one. We had high tailed it out of Melbourne on a late Thursday afternoon with the hope of getting to a couple of vineyards before the 5pm close. Yabby Lake, being one of the closest Mornington vineyards to Melbourne with a great reputation for Chardonnay was therefor on our list and I’m glad we made the effort. It was a quick visit, but a delicious one. We settled on some bottles of the Single Vineyard Chardonnay and I had to be retrained from buying the museum release Magnums they had on display. The Red Claw range, at half the price were also a good buy but we were specifically in the market for special bottles we could put away so skipped them this time. The views here are lovely and I hope to return for cheese platters and wine overlooking the vines on a sunny day. Pro tip: If you’re here early in the day or need an afternoon pick-me-up after a lot of wine touring, then grab a coffee. The beans are from Market Lane you know. Ooo, fancy!

Amazing views and wine experience. After a nice winding drive through the vineyard. Your greater by a subtle entrance. Once you walk through the doors it opens up to a beautifully crafted cellar door and restaurant. Staff were warm and spent time running through both entry and estate selections. Great experience
