This is a fantastic little Japanese restaurant. We popped in on Thursday night and had a lovely intimate meal. The place was very quiet but that is not an indication of the food — it’s great quality! We ordered a feast of pork gyoza, miso glazed eggplant, vegetable sushi roll and seared salmon aburi. The food was really fresh and well made and I left feeling very satisfied! Reasonable prices too. If you’re looking for a Japanese place around crown and Cleveland st is definitely recommend it.

Can’t miss out on the sushi on a trip to the Golden coast. After a day at the beach, I thought it’d only be appropriate to have an oceanic meal afterward. After browsing around Unilocal,I ended up going to Sushi Uo. They have a few lunch specials which is pretty bang for buck. The sashimi lunch special came with miso soup and 3 types of fish. My favorite was the salmon. The fish tasted pretty fresh and the quality wasn’t bad, I would say on a scale of 1 — 5 it would be a 3 or 3.5. I was drawn into trying the uni since it was local. Sea urchin is one of my favorites and I’ve only tried ones from California, Japan and Maine. Let’s just say, Australian uni is not the best I’ve had. It lacked a sweet aftertaste and it was actually kind of briny. The more interesting item I tried here was the wagyu sushi. I heard the chef torching it while I ate and I was pretty impressed with the taste. No need for soy sauce or wasabi for this dish. The meat was pretty tender, it’s kind of like a deconstructed gyudon but with grade A meat.

When I came to Sydney, I was under the impression that the standard for sushi was solely revolving sushi. I was looking for a place that offered sit down sushi and this was one that a friend recommended. It was a 5 minute bus ride from my place and the atmosphere was adorable! Mood lighting and adorable Japanese decorations. Service was great. Menu was decently priced. Sushi was very good quality. They also let us split the bill and they take credit card! Would definitely come back!

Another stop on my Cleveland Street escapades… This place is sits across from Sushi Suma and is pretty much a direct competitor, albeit slightly nicer and slightly more expensive. Two steps above Yakiniku Den as well. I love their soundtrack, a mix of 90s throwbacks to noughties jams. Service was great, super friendly and checked up pretty often. I recommend getting the sashimi platter, it’s $ 25 for a lot of sashimi/sushi, plus an oyster. See my photo. Skip the pork belly though, it wasn’t anything special… plus this place is a sushi place. Definitely interested in coming back again, and not only if Sushi Suma is packed out. I would bring a casual date here too.
