The stars don’t lie. This place is really good — value and quantity. Service could have been better, but working in hospitality I know there are off nights. I got the mini sushi roll entrée and the vegetable gyoza($ 8.80 and $ 6.80) and it could have fed me for dayzzzzz. Also BYFREAKING O. def recommend

Great value, good eats, and BYO. What more could you ask for? Sushi Suma does tasty and affordable Japanese food in a casual setting. It’s a great place to eat with friends or to go on your 4th date. The menu is pretty varied, staff friendly and the fish is fresh. While Cleveland street has several options for Japanese, Sushi Suma is the reigning king. Hard not to like the place, just know it books out fast.

If we’re having a «value for money» competition for all the restaurants in Sydney, Sushi Suma will definitely make the top of my list. The value comes from the authentic taste and high quality that’s un-compromised by the generous portion of servings. We walk in Sushi Suma starving and walk out utterly satisfied, every, single, time. Must order: the set menu(with teriyaki beef)

Always get the katsu dinner with sashimi to share with someone. So good! I hear the beef teriyaki is amazing, but i never want to miss out on the katsu dinner… Staff are so friendly, too; love them.

I really love this place. The food is consistently delicious, generous, fresh and more than reasonably priced. Hands down my favourite beef teriyaki! Amazing Sashimi! Excellent staff!

YAY ! My 100thREVIEW ! This gem in Surry Hills was introduced to me by my buddy and I love her for that ! LOVELOVELOVE… why? Reason #1 — Value for money Considering how expensive dining out in Sydney is, it is often difficult to find a restaurant that serves good food with reasonable prices. SUSHISUMADIDIT ! The set dinners are good for 2 people(guarantee that both of you will leave the restaurant with smiles on your face!) and it costs less than $ 40 !(without any drinks) How awesome is that? Reason #2 — Good food Agedashi tofu: Tofu is lightly battered and deep fried, served with the warm soy-based sauce, YUM Sashimi: Take a bite and you know it’s fresh. Tonkatsu — YUMYUM Reason #3 — Service Service is FAST. This helps especially if you were starving ! The negatives include 1) Tables are slightly *too* close to one another. It is difficult NOT to hear the conversation at the table next to you 2) The couch seat is kinda worn out… hence not very comfortable to sit on. Highly recommended, two thumbs up !

Very cheap, casual Japanese restaurant. Don’t expect everything to be top notch(considering the bargain prices they charge), however most things are pretty decent. Servings are extremely generous, so under-order first if you haven’t been here before.

Arrived and were seated upstairs(we were the first there) whilst downstairs was rather busy. Over the course of our meal upstairs eventually filled out, also with those waiting for a table. Really fast service, ordered one of each of chefs selection which is a set, then shared among the four of us. Pretty much everything came our really quick(perhaps too quick?). Thankfully the sashimi and sushi were first but it would have been nice to have a little more time before the hot dishes were served. Sashimi delicious. Great value! Suggest making a table booking early to avoid waiting too long, although you can enjoy a beverage whilst you wait.

Cheap, no-fuss sushi that’s great value. Besides feeling really full, you always walk away from a meal at Sushi Suma you always feel like you’ve gotten great value for money. Especially good value are the lunch time bento boxes. They’re massive and you could probably share one between two people. Just be prepared to queue for 10 minutes to get a table. The service is grumpy and they are slow to seat you, but hey, it’s part of the experience and in this instance, you’re not paying for great service, are you? If you love Japanese at a tenth of the prices that you’ll pay up the road at Toko, then this is the perfect place.

If you love cheap and fast Japanese and you haven’t been to Sushi Suma yet — do it. It’s a no-fuss restaurant where the staff aren’t particularly friendly and the tables are a little too close together for private chatter, but the food is seriously good. They get pretty busy so you might have to wait upstairs for a table, but it’s also BYO so grab a few glasses and get merry. When you’re summoned to your table, order a couple of dishes to share and stuff your faces. No matter who I’m here with, our order always seems to be the same: the sashimi platter, agedashi tofu and a plate of tempura. The food comes out fast and I haven’t had a mediocre dish yet. Keep in mind that they don’t take EFTPOS, so make sure you’ve got some cash in your pocket.

Sushi Suma is one of those excellent mid week eat spots. Its soooooo cheap for such fresh, plump sushi. Great to go in groups as you can order up and it will cost you just 20 bucks. The Agedashi Tofu is great but get only one each as it is very filling. The humongous Kaiso salad of raw cabbage, seaweed, Japanese mayo is awesome and the sashimi is so rotund and yum. We always order a teriyaki fish dish which is a selection of different fish in a beautiful sweet sauce. For $ 20 each this is an amazing banquet and you will be very full in that perfect not-too-puffy way that only Japanese food can do. Grab a bottle of wine at the bottle shop down the road on Crown Street or at the liquor land near Coles on Cleveland Street. No bookings, just walk on in and walk out content.
