I love the Miss Chu in Melbourne but this one is just not the same. It is smaller and in an unfortunate and hard to find and not terribly inviting location.

Used to love this place but we just had the most disgusting dinner here. Meals were swimming in salty soy sauce. Very dissatisfied

Not bad, but you can do much better. This particular location never feels clean either, which is a little bit disconcerting. The portions are small and the prices are high relative to what you get, but this is probably a pretty expensive shop location. Still, I would skip this and head down the street to Chinatown if you are not in a rush.

Average food but expensive for a tuckshop! Rice paper rolls are around $ 8 — $ 9 for 2. The frappes /slushees are around $ 7 and are tiny — less than one standard cup(maybe 150−200ml). The prawn dumplings and chive dumplings are like the ones you’d find at yum cha — but at $ 7.60 for 3 dumplings, it’s more than what you’d fork out at yum cha. This is good for a really casual, fast meal where you don’t feel like eating that much. Wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.

Perhaps it’s my Canadian side, but the phở here was sub par. It was a tiny serving and they didn’t offer any condiments. I had to ask for hosin sauce and they provided me a tiny tiny container. No chop sticks either. Just not how I’ve had phở in any other country. The taste was just ok also.

A tuck shop off George street and in the easy to find Regent Center which boasts a number of Asian ramen and sushi shops. Atmosphere is fun, electric, vibrant and bustling! You’ll find faux courtyards covered in vine and hanging bulb lights. You can charge your phone at the sit down station Craving Phở is what I order. Eating is always a tactile experience for me so what I love about Phở is the bowl of goodies which typically accompanies. I was a little let down when it was already in the bowl… And no extra hoisin :( For $ 13 the bowl was smaller in comparison to some other shops. The meat was already cooked, but was plenty and the broth was okay. To me, this is beginners Phở and my fav is still Phở Pasteur. But, it seems very popular and if come back and order something else. Side note, Everything seemed rather sticky, the chairs, plates, cups… Put me off

Located underground below some shopping area. I loved the feel of this food joint as it really did give off a food truck vibe with seating right next to the kitchen. Anyways, onto the food. Started with prawn spring rolls as appetizer. I ordered the pork belly with rice, my mom ordered the green papaya salad, and my brother ordered the salmon with XO sauce. Prawn spring rolls — Super fresh. I could taste the basil so strongly and the veggies were all so crunchy. Worth ordering here. Pork Belly — The best dish of the three by far. The aromatic purple rice was so fragrant and the stir fried vegetables were so fresh and delicious. The star of the show was definitely the egg and pork belly, though. The egg was hard boiled and then deep fried with some sort is tempura coat. Yolk was runny, cooked to perfection. The pork belly was extremely juicy. Broke apart when I put it in my mouth. Probably the juiciest pork belly I’ve ever eaten. Salmon w/XO — From the small taste I had, the fish seemed fresh and the veggies and rice served with it were the same as the pork belly entrée. Nothing spectacular but was quite delicious as well. Green papaya salad — The worst of the three dishes. The salad came out way too spicy and my mom couldn’t finish it. Would not order again. Overall a very satisfying experience. The portions are nice too!

Ideal for a quick casual meal. Miss Chu’s offers fresh fusion«Vietnamese» food and quirky«tuck shop» inspired fitting– order at the register and wait for your name to be called from the window. Honestly speaking the food isn’t amazing. That isn’t to say it’s not good but you don’t come here to experience authentic Vietnamese food(forgo the phở). Their claim to fame is their rice paper rolls, which range from $ 7 – 13 for two rolls. Now if you have ever made these babies at home you’ll know how easy they are to make & how little it takes to fill them. Miss Chu’s just outsources the hassle of buying ingredients and wrapping these yourself. They get points as they taste good with their plum sauce and are healthier than other options you’ll find outside. I like Miss Chu’s. It’s a trusty quick eat. But it may be because it’s consistently okay.

Beautiful setup, chaotic and first, not easy to order. The menu seemed to be lost with the graffiti on the wall. Overall it was a bit over priced compared to what you’d get in the same area. We ordered the bahn mi a nd weren’t very impressed, the rice noodles with wood ear mushrooms and pork was also average.

Ventured into this place after seeing reviews on Unilocal. My wife and I were seeing a movie at the George street cinemas and decided to check it out. First impressions were great. Nice fit out… it seems hidden away and smaller than expected. We wrote down our order by checking off the notepad menu. We tried some rice paper rolls(tiger prawn & satay chicken) and tried the wagyu Beef Phở. I actually haven’t had Vietnamese food aside from a rice paper roll here and there so have nothing to compare it to. I quite enjoyed the flavours of the Beef Phở and the rice paper rolls were very tasty. We ended up ordering some more rolls and spring rolls as we were stil hungry. Portion sizes are in the small size for the price but you are getting quality. The tables are unsteady vintage ironing boards so make sure you don’t lose your lunch from them tipping over! I will definitely return, when I’m in the area.

I frequent the Bondi Miss Chu about once a fortnight(which I love!), though will never be back to the city tuckshop! The tuna sashimi rice paper roll which I order without fail every time I’m at the Bondi Miss Chu, this time was dry, thin, bland and absolutely not worth the price I’m usually able to justify at Bondi. DISGUSTING!!! Other than that, the service here is appalling — I was asked to walk around to the other side of the restaurant, even though there was somebody standing where I thought I could order, then when I approached the window which said«order here», I was directed to order around the corner! When I moved around the corner to order, the same two people who had asked me to move around preceded to talk to each other for a few minutes about nothing business related, when they finally thought it was time to see what I wanted. I will eat never here again, and I hope diners can save their money! Bondi Miss Chu is not a representation of this terrible restuarant!

I was not impressed by the quality of the food. I’ve tried many a Vietnamese restaurants and this really missed the boat unfortunately. My dish came with«caramelized» pork stew, which was neither caramelized or stewy. It also contained so much fat that there wasn’t much meat left to consume. Supremely disappointed. Drinks did look good, but were on the pricey side.

So much food! We over-ordered severely after seeing movies nearby. A bit of confusion over how to order, but once we got that through and you accept that no one has any smiles on their face, the food is awesome. No, seriously, it really is. It’s good quality, there is lots of it and can’t recommend highly enough. Pork buns are huge! They change the menus regularly it seems, so I can only comment on what we’ve eaten. If you want fast, fresh and yummy food, come here. And order a nice beer.

Good value for money, everything is made as Vietnamese street food. The design of this place and the tables are also a very creative use of the small space. The dumplings are excellent and definitely my favourite part of the menu. The rice paper rolls are also the best I’ve had. They’re fresh and moist and the sauce they come with is far better than what seems to be the standard sweet chilli sauce. My only complaint is that there needs to be more seating and room between tables.

Absolutely so funky! My new favourite place to eat out. Delicious affordable Vietnamese food right next to the beach. You got to fall in love with this place. Love love love their refreshing coconut & lychee mint slushie. Only thing I not sure about is dogs being allowed in such close proximity to people eating. Tables are set low near the ground and I felt like I was going to share my meal with the couple’s dog sitting next to us. Very cute pooch… mind you! No big deal we found another table further where we could relax vas enjoy our meal. Can’t wait to go back!

Where did this place come from? I take one wrong turn down a single set of escalators and boom here I am sitting at this cool funky Vietnamese styled tuck shop. Firstly the food was great, flavoursome, fresh and great textures. secondly they had power plugs for charging my mac and iPhone. What a great idea. This place is perfect for you light snack or lunch. I probably wouldn’t have an entire dinner there and you might end up working in the kitchen yourself to pay for it but still its great. Well I am glade i took a wrong turn when trying to find a shorter way to my Hotel. * That is All *

Great spot to get out of the sun for a little while. The vibe combines a vietnamese menu with Australian Flare. SElf serve water from billy buckets and rice rolls. Great use of sustainable resources — reusing bowls as lights and reusable water cups

Do not order any of the ‘steamed rice and greens’ combinations. The rice is loaded with sauce, salt and what I suspect might be MSG and it will make you feel totally nauseous after eating it. Go for the ‘warm vermicelli salad’ options instead, which are mostly delicious(the exception is the vegan mushrooms option, which is disgusting). The fried net spring roll salads(vegetarian or prawn & crab) are my fave. Other yummy stuff I like: — rice paper rolls(all of them) — free-range chicken curry with vermicelli and Vietnamese herbs — prawn dumplings — Peking duck pancakes Don’t bother with the banh mi. It is below average. Service is friendly and reasonably fast. Prices are OK but they could be cheaper, considering the small serving sizes.

Was already quite familiar with the Chu while I was living in Melbourne. I have not eaten at this particular tuck shop, yet I was lucky when one of my freelance writing clients(where I actually have to go into the office, despite being a contractor) treated me to Miss Chu’s here for lunch, take away. The rice paper rolls were delivered to my office without needing to go outside for a walk. It is kind of handy to be working at a office that is a block behind a Miss Chu’s. The price is a bit on the pricey end, yet their rice paper rolls are full of healthy ingredients. At the time I had a throat infection, so the chilli sauce did not go down too well at one stage at that point. Beautiful peking duck pancakes, they just melt in your mouth… There were some left overs. Le Sigh. If I was not flying back business class to Melbourne at the time, and hence if I did not have to fly out at all that day I would have taken the left overs home. Mmmmm… imagine…the chu for both lunch and dinner…

This tuckshop-style restaurant is located behind the George St cinemas serving very tasty Vietnamese food. It’s a popular lunchtime joint, so you may be waiting up to 20 mins.
