Popped in for a quick lunch and really enjoyed this spot. Quick and friendly service and the food was very good. We had the salt and pepper calamari which has an amazingly subtle sweet chilli sauce. We also had the chicken which was very good. Not the cheapest café on the planet but a great all round experience.

Absolutely disappointed Thought we wanted to go enjoy a meal here as oppose to a café across the road we were basically turned away and told to try the coffee shops across the road No customer service and a 30 min wait

Great, well balanced taste and well presented too. The outdoor furniture could’ve been better but overall, guaranteed a food coma after(in a good way)!

I enjoyed being in the nice yard they have and this place is located at perfect location but that’s about it. I was underwhelmed by the food and service. The Benedict came out cold and lacked taste. The young man who is the server there has an attitude and is borderline rude. I think they have the potential and need to improve significantly!

We had eggs benedict, one with bacon and one with salmon. Both were perfect. The coffee was excellent. This is a great venue. Can recommend.

Ditto. Well done. Ordered the Judge and the Convict. Everything was tasty. The hot cakes looked excellent from afar, but the portions were so big, we didn’t have room for them between the three of us(son, wife, and I).

Amazing! A beautiful café in an historic setting. Great service. WONDERFUL food! And, just across from Hyde Park. We went based Unilocal reviews and were not disappointed. I ordered a brunch item — smoked salmon on rocket greens atop ricotta slathered ciabatta bread with a lemon oil drizzle and capers. It was a generous portion of 3 large slices of bread, each covered with delicious toppings. My husband and I shared an order of scones with jam and whipped cream — simply scrumptious; hot and made-to-order. He ordered a combination plate of scrambled eggs, a generous portion of bacon, grilled tomatoes, and toast. His order of pineapple juice was quite good — the juice seemed to be frothed and was delicious, as was my pot of tea. Great service. Beautiful surrounding. Delicious food. A hidden gem!

Best scrambled eggs ever. I’m quite the breakfast lover back in Perth and found this place by scanning Unilocal reviews. Thanks fellow Unilocalers for this one, we had the nicest breakfast here whilst on holiday in the city. Both had the barrister, 2 eggs your way plus bacon, ciabatta and roasted tomato. The scrambled eggs had chives mixed in to amp up the deliciousness, and the bacon and ciabatta were both cooked perfectly. Service was great, and had i had more stomach space i would have tried the hersheys chocolate milkshake.

Totally agree with the comments about this place being a hidden gem etc. We were staying in Sydney for a weekend away and found this place on Unilocal. Was a good walk from our hotel so we were famished by the time we arrived, but it was worth it! Especially after having lunch near the opera house the day before, great experience but tons of people. This place was great, we virtually had the place to ourselves, except for the regulars coming in for a quick coffee. Staff were great, food was great, would highly recommend it to anyone I know.

Lovely spot for breakfast, a long lunch or an indulgent afternoon tea — the pasta and specials are reliably good and the desserts are delish(try the dessert platter — heavenly!). Service is always charming. As others have noted its quite a hidden gem very close to the CBD!

Hyde Park Barracks Café is a pretty well-kept secret: a little sandwich board sign outside indicated a café lay within the walls of the Barracks, but given the tiny shops outside the neighbouring hospital and the general quality of hospital/touristy kind of cafes, I had assumed the worst. Coming here for a birthday party, we were served a set menu that offered museli with yoghurt(the berries were so rich that tasted like chocolate), an egg plate with three separate varieties(the highlight being the florentine) and champagne. Ahh, the sweet life. The café is situated in a converted building and offers outdoor and indoor seating. I recommend the indoor, as the raised section retains the original woodwork in the ceiling, roughly 10 meters high. And the service was excellent: our waiter was speedy and charismatic. And he gets bonus points for calling the birthday boy ‘princess’.

Lucky you… i’m about to let you in on a little Sydney Secret — which even most Sydneysiders don’t know about… hideen in the courtyard of the Sydney Barracks — is a gorgeous suave café which is sexy, sophisticated and delicious… Visiting this café is a treat because its off the beaten track and you really need someone to tell you about it before you get a chance to go. It’s a great place to eat during the day time… but I recommend going in the morning for breakfast… they make excellent Savoury Ricotta Hot cakes with Smoked salmon and dill crème friache($ 17.5) but it’s only served till 11am so you have to get up early for it… I found the service to be wonderful and really felt like I had a 5 star experience… The barrack area is magnificent — a place rarely visited by Sydneysiders but definitely worthy of a visit…
