Another great elite event organised by Ben! I’ve been to hotel CBD countless times but that night was the first time I ventured beyond ground floor! The event space was generally well organised with goodies bag packed for the participants. And no one would complain for the free food and drinks. I was fully fed from all the nibbles coming over the evening. The staff were helpful and attentive in topping up our bottomless wine glasses. Our team was very well balanced with different specialties. The goddess of luck must have favoured our team because we landed Dave aka«the Merlin» in our team. Actually, I decided to join his team after I found out that he has completed the bonus questions sitting on the table BEFORE the trivia night started! Our team performed well with Ingrid/Derek/Ben providing pop culture insights and the rest of us contributing in various topics. Couldn’t ask for a better team. Too bad the host back-pedalled on the Quizilla name. The 2 points would have made the difference between winning first or second! P/s: I still don’t know how Ingrid figured out the movie title from an eleven character scrambled anagram.

This was my first Unilocal event ever!!! I had a blast so thank you for organising. I’m quite daft at Australian knowledge so ironically enough, instead of churning out answers for brain growth and development, I churned out some wine drinking and unfortunate dead, brain-cells. And yes Ben, those wine toppers were there every 1:45−2 minutes. It was all for the cause right?! Can wait to see you crazie aces at another one! Peace, love and hair grease JK

What a fun night. I must say we did nothing to dissuade the idea that alcohol isnt good for your brain. In fact we were supplied ample amounts of libations, and it helped us snag 2nd place. We fought our way there beyond the goblin city, through hardships unnumbered, and dangers untold. With Dave aka The Merlin, Ben aka The other Ben, Dan, Sue, Nic and Derek we smashed out some pretty tricky questions, only to be cut down in all our Rock star glory by the event organiser’s team by one measly point. We still get a trophy though, so pretty stoked in the end. Our brains mattered tonight! Food was a plenty, I love a good food and booze elite event. Those rice paper rolls were bloody excellent.

Having a laugh with good people over a few drinks & snacks makes for good times. We may not have covered Unilocal in glory as far as the scorekeepers were concerned but having the best time out possible is really what I feel Unilocal is about & we definitely held our end of the bargain there.

My first Unilocal Elite event and I can honestly say that I had a great night. I’ve been meaning to come to elite events for far too long and I decided to commit and get into it. Like the nerd that I am I arrived 15 minutes before anyone else so I got to watch the team of #YourBrainMattersTrivia set up. Not knowing a single person I just sussed out who was from Unilocal and slowly chime in. I really enjoyed meeting my fellow Unilocalers. Just a big thanks to Dave, Dan, Ingrid, Sue/Soo, Nic and Derek for being a great team. Really pumped that we took out the second place(NB: I still thought my team name of Multiple-chance was witty). It was also great meeting Ben B in person — a big thank you for advising us about the 50 lashes beer line fault. I polished off my entire glass in a hurry because I thought brushing my teeth was the culprit(wrong). I will be coming to some of the next events, so I look forward to meeting more of you /seeing you again. Ben(the other Ben).

Dan’s brain o Dan’s brain at trivia O Now to the important stuff… real. peanut. butter. There I said it. Now, let’s elaborate and quantify. Real peanut butter tastes of peanuts because there are peanuts in it. It’s crunchy. That smooth garbage they roll out and try and pretend is peanut butter is for wimps. Cue #YourBrainMatters coming to the party with the real peanut butter… Sold! The trivia itself was good fun. The hosts rotated their duties and encouraged engagement with walk-arounds, funny anecdotes and video content. Since our team came 2nd on the night, losing by a mere point, I shall de-brief on team highlights for future reference. Dave was dubbed«The Merlin» after some rather interesting trivia gets; whilst Ingrid’s scribing and de facto leadership provided some quirky overrules on the night — case in point — Judge Judy!(who plucks that one out of thin air???) and she also nailed the anagram… loved the chuckle of nonchalance as she stated matter-of-factly«I know what it is». Ben L rocked in with some assists on famous faces and movie lines, whilst our friendly couple rounded out all the other answers we couldn’t get! Nic and I debated the legs, medal worthiness and compared taste notes of the 6-buck wines we were drinking… What we did agree on was the white was better than the red. I can’t remember how many questions we actually got… 1, maybe 2. Ha! Benny B threw out the insider knowledge letting us know the 150-lashes keg-line was compromised… so *that’s* why my beer tastes like cat-piss, it wasn’t the listerine, toothpaste, and the 6.8% IPA I had at SG beforehand, all working together in some insiduous plot to make the beer a 1-lash weakling. On a final note… free booze. Poor Danny boy was a bit messy by the end but a great night nonetheless!

Fun times. Wine: always improves sportsmanship. Burned off a sip going up and down the stairs(cue step by step theme song). I like that there was always someone to promptly offer a refill. If other places offered this sort of service, reviews would be at least 50% less snarky. Food: B+, even though cute box things were vegetarian. Considering that my two deal breakers are smoking and vegetarianism, it’s an A+++ by normal people standards. I learned stuff as well, the most notable being that: * the brain: use it or lose it. * my brain may have way more cells than yours(and that’s bad), and *“splish splash I was taking a bath«and«great balls of fire» were not by the same singer

I’m a big fan of the your brain matters folks. My mother in law is going through dementia at the moment and it’s the most horrible thing. Anything you can do to not end up like that, do it. So when the chance came to do some awareness raising, I jumped at it. The free drinks and nibbles may also have had something to do with it as well. Plus the trivia. I like trivia. My head is crammed full of useless trivia. Unfortunately it’s not the sort of trivia they ever ask at pub trivia nights. Fortunately I was sitting with people who did know the sort of trivia they ask at pub trivia nights. We came a very respectable second(by one point) and managed to salvage a bit of Unilocal pride as the other Unilocal table came second last. Great night. Great crowd. This just reinforces my view that the Unilocal elite crowd are universally awesome.
