I like the vibe and the service here, but the food… it was just Okay. Nothing special and nothing that wowed me for all the high ratings this restaurant gets. I left a bit disappointed and wishing I had a better last meal before my flight back home. We ordered: –Lychee Lemongrass Bellini(AUD$ 17):Pretty tasty! They should add in pieces of Lychee for something a little more different.(Although I am Lychee addict…) Smoked Pear Martini(AUD$ 19): Not bad for a Whiskey cocktail, and they rimmed the glass with smashed pork cracklings. –Zucchini Popper(AUD$ 15): Prior to having this Zucchini Popper, we had one at Waterman’s Lobster Co and that set the bar much higher. –Prawn & Calamari(AUD$ 18): Batter was nice and light, simple seasoning. –Aged Delmonico Steak 400g(AUD$ 55): Had a subtle aged flavor, but nothing amazing. Also was not seasoned very well. –Wagyu Scotch Steak 350g(AUD$ 65): A much more tastier cut than the Delmonico but was also bland. –Asian Greens(AUD$ 12): The one dish I really liked… the cheapest and it was also a side dish. It’s about $ 100 per person if you’re dining here for a full meal, but would I come back? Nahh… But I give credit to the service here, they’re really great and attentive. Even the girl who wasn’t our server was really attentive with us and felt like we should be giving her some extra tip. *They also charge a 1% Merchant Credit Card Transaction Fee *$ 6 drinks from 4PM-6PM: Wish I had seen that sooner now that I’m looking at my receipt… :(

Having visited this place multiple times, this restaurant is either very good and sometimes pretty disappointing. Steaks are good, but not always fantastic. Be sure to ask the waiter for their specials. The last time I visited the service was slow, empty glasses during dinner, simply not mindful. The same week we visited the experience was good. Dining outside is possible, great seating, recommended. The service indoors is generally better.

Amazing steak house in Sydney, probably the best for the price. The place is really nice, the waiters are kind and the food is PERFECT. My mother said that this one was the best steak of her life XD My T-bone was very good.

You can’t go wrong having a meal here, but the price and desserts mean that ultimately it’s a place I’d rather go to when someone else is paying. Let me get it straight, the mains were outstanding. Really good mean, cooked correctly. This isn’t one of those places where you have to order your steak«rare» just to get it(actually) «medium rare». They know what they’re doing, and you’ll get what you ask for. Unfortunately after such a great main meal, the desserts were a bit of a let down. I’d suggest you just skip them and save more space for drinks. The wine list is really quite good, which is why I gave them an extra star — something about a big steak and fine red wine just works.

Visiting Australia, we wanted to try their meats since that’s what they are known for. But wasn’t too impressed compared to our steakhouses in Ny. Tomahawk chophouse was good but not the best. Cooked it to a perfect medium rare though! Wife thought the sauces were a plus. Waiter worried us about not being able to finish it but we showed him lol. Potato purée was very tasty.

I really enjoyed my dinner here. We had oysters which we enjoyed. The sides were really good(French fries, salad, and green). I ordered steak which I thought was really good, I described what I like to the waiter and he suggested one. My husband thought his steak was ok, but not the best he’s ever had. The red wine that was suggested was also very good. I did not like the strawberry dessert, but thought that the ice cream was good. It wasn’t busy, lots of seats, although we had made a reservation. There is outdoor and indoor seating.

I’d rate this up there with Kingsleys. Better in someways, as the menu is broader — as in more steak. Starve yourself before you go to get the best value out of this place. Pass on the marinade and butter if you want the Paleo effect. If you like steak blue or at most medium rare, this is the place for you. Bring a client, or get taken there by a vendor.

A friend of mine was approaching the end of her 6 months of employment at Chophouse so we went to eat a ton of steak while she still had her discount. Wow, just wow. I feel like no steak will ever be as good now. They have a scotch fillet special right now and it has the perfect marble and just trust me and get it. The yam fries were good too and the scallops were also delicious. My friend really likes their slaw too but I wasn’t super into it. The espresso martinis and Oh Canada cocktail were superb and special thanks for the Canadian content… bacon flavored ice cube… amen! We ended up spending a lot of money but we ordered a ton and it was worth the price. Seems like they train their servers pretty well too!

I don’t usually go to steakhouses, but when I do, I will now always go to Chophouse. Do not leave without trying their dessert — we didn’t expect a steakhouse to have such an extensive range of desserts, and we certainly didn’t expect every single one that we ordered to be as amazing as they were. Highly recommended!

This was probably the best steak I’ve ever had. It’s not cheap, it’s downright expensive, but they do meat incredibly well. Great cocktail bar too, and good things to go with your meat(chorizo salad anyone?). Did I mention it’s quite expensive? But worth it.

We went for a work lunch. Was just right. Good traditional chops/steak lunch. Ideal for business and would go again.

Great steaks, great service, great wine. They recommended two sides for 2 and 1 would have been plenty. We had onion rings(nice and crispy, not greasy at at all) and green beans(fresh and properly crispy). The waigu rump was recommended and a very tasty steak with nice bark.

Someone asked me how I went at Chophouse the other night. Well, the atmosphere was too rushed, I said. I don’t mind paying for a good meal — I’ve always said that. But when I(or someone on my behalf as the case may be) is paying $ 40-$ 60 for a steak — without sides — I’d like to be able to enjoy it. I found Chophouse too chaotic. Tables were too close together, servers were briskly moving around but were mostly oblivious to someone trying to get their attention. AND, I said, raising my voice slightly– It took us TWENTYMINUTES before we managed to flag down an appropriate person to take our drink and entrée orders.(The first person said they would try to find our server. When they didn’t return, we managed to find someone we could convince to help us out — and I mean convince. At first they said they’d grab our server, and we practically had to beg him not to. A few moments after that, the first person returned and said our sever was busy, but that they could get our drinks going.) I made a feeble attempt to excuse the service — maybe they were understaffed, maybe it was training day for an entirely new staff roster, or maybe it was just a bad night, but that was pretty much the tone of the night. Service was nearly impossible to find, and when you did ask for another drink they’d run away before the person next to you could order theirs. At this point into the answering my friends query I stopped, looked up, and said, «wow, I’ve really become a food snob». He smiles and said I was — but that’s why he asked me how it was. So I continued… I really had to bite my tongue when *pause for dramatic effect* the waiter told someone at my table that wagyu MBS only goes up to 9. SHOCK! HORROR! LIES! ANDTHEN, I said, rolling my eyes — when my steak did arrive, it hadn’t even been properly rested — at this point I was laughing at my own snobbery — what the hell has happened to me that I refused to cut into a steak that was still sweating when presented? But I did. I waited an extra 5 minutes to allow my steak to properly rest before slicing it open. If you’re still reading and care about the actual food: the steak at Chophouse was pretty much on par with other steak joints in the area. As mentioned in previous reviews, and for reasons known only to them, Chophouse rebels against the norm by sticking to its own scale of doneness. My medium rare was really leaning on the rare side of the scale, and my table mate’s medium ran the gamut from rare to medium rare. I prefer underdone to overdone and am fine with a bit of raw flesh, so this didn’t bother me too much, but it’s worth noting for those who can’t handle a fair bit of red– order up. I found both the steak and sides under seasoned(an easy thing to fix at the table), and the salmon special was completely lacking flavour until we doused it with a good amount of lemon. And then it just am tasted like lemony salmon, screaming out for some dill– or anything, really. The prawn and calamari dish(«bar food» section of the menu) and the special mushroom side were the standouts. I’ve heard Chophouse does a nice lunch, and I may stop by to test it out one day, but with nothing to make it stand out from the other steak houses nearby, I can’t see myself heading back there for dinner anytime soon.

Good steak. Little short on options for starters, but what was there was quality. Good alternative to Mr Perry’s cow temple around the corner.

Nails the slightly retro NY steakhouse vibe. Love the terrace on a summer afternoon for drinks and bar snacks. Steak is excellent and always perfectly cooked, though sides can be a little hit and miss — last time I got tepid fries. Disgraceful! Potato purée(what can I say, I don’t really go for greens?) is divine though. Service is seriously patchy, especially when you’re with a big group. Overall, a good spot for a long lunch or special occasion dinner.

Had heard good things about this place, and a friend suggested it for dinner. There’s an American feel to this place, very American steakhouse kind of feel with the good customer service to boot. We made a booking for a Tuesday night and was surprised how busy it was. We started off with drinks — got a Lychee Blush cocktail that was pretty nice. We ordered food — got the lamb chops and it was delicious! The meat was tender and so tasty. It came with a mint jelly sauce. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes which was super mashed and buttery and a side of green beans. The dinner was delicious! We decided to get ice cream and the waiter recommended the Sticky Date Pudding. It came with a honey comb and chocolate sauce but was already very sweet on its own. I definitely like this place! Would come back for a nice juicy steak!

Higher end steakhouse in the financial end of town. Yes, it is more expensive than the local pub, but then the food, atmosphere, fit out and service experience are significantly above most local pubs. The staff are consistently helpful and attentive but not intrusive — sometimes it can be a little hard to get this balance right, but the chophouse crew manage it much better than most. The setting is intimate, and quirky industrial without being over the top. Perhaps one of the best things about the restaurant is that even though they cater to the corporate card market, there are some very reasonable menu items for under $ 30. Special mention to the potato mash/purée — not sure what they do, but it is pretty special. Maybe truffle oil, I don’t know but its good. Damn good. They also seem to have a pretty reasonable $ 6 drink special in the afternoons which I assume caters for the good range of boutique beers on tap — as a schooner of Peroni will run you about $ 8 to a ridiculous $ 11(Ryans Bar, I’m talking about you) in the immediate vicinity, this alone makes it worth a look. Should you desire a quality steak or other high end(Australian sourced) protein, the Chophouse can and will make it happen — any which way you like it. As one of the earlier reviewers points out, Sydney is saturated with plenty of good steak options but the Chophouse is one of the places in which the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts.

Chophouse gets a lot of hype. Maybe I don’t know enough about marble scoring to appreciate the place properly. The steak was good, but was it 10 times as good as a medium rare sirloin from my local? Probably not. After visiting twice my opinion stands. The food is pretty great, but it’s way overpriced, as is the wine list. Chophouse caters to the CBD tourist and business crowd. It sells itself as a magical carnivore experience, and a place to indulge in some carnal need to eat red meat and drink red wine(which I entirely understand!), but falls short… The tables are too close together, it’s noisy and the service is painfully slow. The so-called experience is pretty disappointing — like when you were a kid and saw the guy in the mickey mouse costume backstage, with his head under his arm, chain smoking. If you want to pay $ 100++ a head for an amazing dining experience… go somewhere else.

Came here on a very chilly Tuesday night so couldn’t wait to tuck into some good winter grub. I can’t express enough how much I enjoyed the steak here. I ordered a medium rare Petit fillet MB2(the leanest of all the cuts) and it came out medium rare as requested! Slicing through this steak was a pleasure as was matching it with the baked winter vegetable salad, highly recommend. Now onto dessert — Wow. How does one choose from all the wonderful combo’s available, turkish coffee ice cream? Yes please. Unfortunately, I decided against dessert but my friend ordered the cherry and coconut icecream with chocolate sauce and honeycomb, looked incredible. The service we received on this particular night was service like no other. They offered to take our jackets and scarves to the cloak room, they took some time out to take us through their specials and recommend a good drop and catered to some changes on the menu. I absolutely loved this steakhouse and would certainly return.
