Pretty enjoyed the snacks! Green tomato melt excellent with cheese. My favourite dishes are macadamia crab and pork. Silky macadamia merged with crab in a fresh and sweet way. You can even feel the crab is alive in your mouth, seriously. Also, caramelised witlof tastes amazing with pork! These two are amazing! Not used to kangaroo consommé. The desserts were not very impressive, but not too bad!

Came here for my birthday on Friday(which was a surprise) and I just have to say this place is AWESOME. I only go fine dining a handful of times a year, and I wish I came here earlier, because this is the kind of place that requires repeat visits. Sixpenny does the whole farm to table thing, as they have their own farm next to Berowra. It must be a damn good farm because everything here was damn delicious. They take a page out of Noma’s handbook, utilising the best of Australian produce to make something definitively Modern Australian. Their service is great; super attentive and informative, and patient as well. The only thing is they are slightly stingy with their wine pour. Other than that, just a great experience all around. We had a party of 10(had the room in the back) and we ordered the smaller degustation set. The first two snacks we had set the bar low… they really weren’t anything special, one being salt and vinegar chips and the other Cucumber Pickled in Rose Geranium. The latter was not received very well, and honestly we think sixpenny does this on purpose because the rest of the dishes were fan-freakin-tastic. Seriously, if you wanna talk about going from 0 – 100 this is what sixpenny does once they bring out the Green Tomato & Cheese Gougères. From this menu, all you need to know is: Jerusalem Artichoke Scallop — DELICIOUS Eggplant with Burnt Onion — DELICIOUS Crab with Silky Macadamia and Camomile — OMGOMGOMG Potatoes Roasted in Fresh Mustard with Lemon Thyme & Spinach — DELICIOUS Marron with Tomato Butter & Fennel Pollen — OMG Pork with Cidered Garlic & Caramelized Witlof — OMGOMG Milk Curd & Honey — DELICIOUS(if you’re not lactose) Poached Prunes with Plum & Jasmine — SEMI-DELICIOUS(not a prune fan) When dessert came, we were beyond stuffed… but after seeing the sixpenny chocolate cake(for my birthday) I had to have a taste and I do not regret it one bit. It’s chocolate nougat, and if you’ve ever had a Three Musketeers, it’s kind of like that in a cake, but much tastier. Awesome restaurant, one of the tops in Sydney.

Wow. Amazing. This restaurant can rival the best in the world, I think. It is a set tasting menu and they don’t reveal to you what is on the menu in advance. They’ll just start bringing out dishes and each one is insanely delicious. Everything from a delicate sliced apple salad to veal roast. The meal ended with this dessert of roast pumpkin in honey. I can’t stop thinking about it. All I want to do is talk about how good this food was. Expensive, but well worth it if you’re splurging. Service was also impeccable and setting was small, intimate.

We had a great 6 course degustation here a few nights ago! We’ve been to many of Sydney’s best and the food here stacks up. The matched wines were pretty decent too — though they lose a star because the pours were the skimpiest EVER! Easy to forgive though considering the food and the amazing staff. Got out of there for $ 450 for two. Update: $ 450 for two, not $ 350…

Sixpenny is an amazing restaurant. We went for a special occasion and indulged in the 6 course menu with matching wines. The food was absolutely faultless. Amazing flavors, techniques and presentation. The crab and macadamia dish was a particular highlight. My only gripe with the night was the woefully meager pours that are served for the matching wines. It was downright stingy. most pours wouldn’t have been more than about 30ml… wtf? barely enough to take 3 sips and enjoy the match. I really do recommend that everyone go to Sixpenny — however if you do, buy your wine by the bottle. Their extensive(and pretty reasonably priced!) wine list will give you much more satisfaction than doing the«matching wines» option.

A truly amazing experience. Six Penny is a three hat restaurants in my opinion.

With high profile restaurants closing their doors left, right and centre, one might have thought it was a bit ambitious to open a degustation only restaurant in a slightly less restaurant trendy suburb. But, sixpenny did it anyway. And, boy, I for one am glad they did. Sixpenny, named after the popular sixpenny restaurants of the 1850s, is a local corner restaurant, that is anything but. Seating approximately 30 people in the dining room, with a private room comfortably accommodating 8, this is an intimate outfit and it seems Stanmore’s residents have embraced their new local. The space, while elegant, is understated and unpretentious. They say they don’t want you to feel uncomfortable, as is sometimes the case in those ‘fancy’ establishments and I think they’ve achieved it. Warm woods, compliment cream walls. It’s an upmarket 70s retro vibe in my mind. Thirty-something chefs James Parry and Daniel Puskas can tout some serious cooking credentials between them, having worked in international restaurants Noma and WD-50 as well as Australian favourites Sepia and Oscilate Wildly. Now do I have your attention? They offer 2 degustation options each evening, a 6 and an 8 course menu and they’re happy to wine match for you, should you desire, or you may prefer to order your wine separately. Most wines come from NSW and ACT, by the glass or bottle. In keeping with their intimate feel, the dishes are brought to your table by the chefs themselves. A nice touch. Our 6 course degustation menu(which I realise looks like more than 6 courses by using dot points, but trust me) is as follows: * Cheese & Onion * Rye Toast * NZ Yam * Malt Chips * Duck Tongue * Knuckle Sandwich * Pickled Pear, Ricotta and Rose Geranium * Crab, silky Macadamia and Camomile * Snapper, Pumpkin Seed Cream, Soft Leaks * Leg of Lamb with Sweet Onions and Grassy Herbs * Chewy Rubarb, Yoghurt Whey Meringue, Camomile Ice Cream and Honey * Native Ginger, Poached Green Strawberries, Rosella * Beetroots, Mead, Steamed Brioche and Honey Ice Cream(an addition, compliments of the chef — thank you!) *Malted Rye(OMG — can I say — It’s like an amazing adults version of Milo and ice-cream)! * Lamingtons, Cookie Jar One word. Stunning. In every way. From the service, to the presentation, to the flavours. So, make your booking now and experience a degustation to remember.

My husband and I have been to Sixpenny for both lunch and dinner so have had the pleasure of having both the 6 and 8 course menus(and as mentioned by the previous reviewer, with all the little bits and pieces inbetween it is much more). The food is exquisite and imaginative and we love that the chefs often come to the table and explain what the dish is. The delicious bread is homemade and warm and comes with a mascarpone butter. Heaven! And we just love the cookie jar at the end! The service is very attentive and the restaurant itself is simply furnished but very stylish. We’re so lucky to have such a gem just a block away.

Recently opened, this small venue is a great find. Used to be the Codfather and seems to be founded by the same guys who do Oscillate Wildly in Newtown, the 8 course degustation is fantastic. Of course I say 8 course but if you include the tasting plates and bits and pieces that come with the degustation, it ends up being around 11 courses, so plan for around 4 hours. We didn’t do the wine matching, but 99% of the wines are Australian and the ones we were recommended were great. Favourite was the crab with macadamia milk and the beef — oh and the salt and vinegar chips — so thin you could see through them. It’s relatively expensive — $ 125/head when we went but really worth it for the flavours. They have their own herb garden, greenhouse and beehive out back as well, love the local flavour. Service was very attentive and the chefs came out to serve and explained what each dish was. Fantastic.
