Love love love eating crab at Red Hot Wok. I don’t know why but everytime I come to this joint we are always treated like family. I am sure there are better places to eat crab in Glen Waverley, Box Hill and such but living in CBD meant that this is closest for me to get to. Their steamed barramundi is fresh and delicious too. And for cheaper eats their beef brisket noodles are fantastic.

For your Chinese fix in South Yarra, look no further for Cantonese style cooking with some Malaysian classics. I’ve upgraded my rating to 4 stars because the dishes they do well(classics) taste better than Pacific nearby. A solid option for the after-work dinner crisis, when cooking is no longer an option, I am very grateful for my local very dependable malaysian-chinese restaurant. I feel I’ve sampled a fair few dishes and I love how there’s a good char from a ridiculously hot wok otherwise know as the«wok hei» effect that gives their dishes that really good flavour. This makes their fried rice & char kuay teow taste awesome, as well as their beef hor fun. I recommend that, and their roti is crisply yet soft & fresher than most. Their torched ribs are sticky and tangy from black vinegar and a must if you like sweet & sour pork(me!) and their S&P chicken ribs are lip-smacking tasty — better than the salted egg sand ones. . In a pinch these guys will do just fine to satisfy your laksa cravings too.

A tradition almost … we seem to order the same things. We’ve been coming here as bachelors and years have past … the same grp of mates still come here but with our GFs /wives and/or own family. We have noticed that the portions have shrunk a bit over the yrs but that’s ok. The food is still pretty darn good! without fail our standard order. a must are the salted egg chicken(2 portions)!.. sizzling tofu also 2 portions! yep they are that good! Butter prawns, kangkong… Staff here can be a bit overworked so don’t expect service to come with a smile :) but generally it’s ok. We’re here for the food and the company. Happy eating folks!

This Malaysian restaurant is a big hit with South Yarra residents and according to a friend of mine(who lives in Pakenham) is also renowned far and wide among the Asian community. It’s name and premises might throw people off but the happy faces of(mostly Asian) customers within tells a different story. I have a golden rule when dining: If you’re trying a new restaurant and it’s an Asian one for instance — you can tell how good the food will be depending on the number of Asian customers within. Likewise, look out for Indian customers in an Indian place. It’s common sense really. This is my number one neighbourhood restaurant for fast, delicious and authentic Malaysian Chinese dishes. They make their own tofu so you can expect their array of tofu dishes to be silky, fresh and definitely enjoyable. Try the sizzling tofu for a wholesome, tasty dish that comes on a hotplate or my personal favourite: Chilli seafood tofu — which comes with chopped seafood in a spicy(chilli crab-like) sauce. Other must-haves are the Torched ribs(tangy, sweet pork ribs), sambal kang kung(morning glory as it is known to Aussies) and if you feel like splurging and getting messy the chilli crab is a winner. Like most Chinese restaurants, you’ll be given free fruit(normally super sweet oranges) to refresh and cleanse the palate after a full meal.
