Service SA

I don’t know that I have much more to add to the other reviews, but in case you need the TL;DR version: short waits and friendly staff make this Service SA stand out from the crowd!

Sarah is spot on here — I went here once, expecting the usual 45 minutes to an hour lost in a queue (I’d previously been a regular at the department of transport at Firle ‘cos it was one of the quickest at getting people through) during my lunch ‘hour’ (ok, it was always a fairly flexible hour, anyway) to hand over the slip that said I’d sold my old car, and was absolutely astonished to be back out of there within 5 minutes — like I said, at lunch time.
The lady at the front counter is worth her weight in gold. I’ve been back there for a couple of things now, and it’s been nearly as good — one change of address on my licence, and something else that needed paying, and she’s had me in and out in nothing flat.
They may have put this in place at all the Service SA branches, I don’t know. I don’t intend finding out — like they say, once you’re onto a good thing, stick with it. :)

Now nobody I know is a fan of government offices because the lines are always notoriously long, it is full of scary forms that you don’t know how to fill out and your wallet always leaves significantly lighter than when you arrived.
However, when I was forced to head to the Service SA office at Northpark Shopping Centre, I was pleasantly surprised by how reasonably painless the procedure was. They have a really great system to control the waiting times that works effectively. There is a staff member sitting at a little desk when you first enter and you tell her what your problem is, then she directs you to the line that you should b in and gives you a number. Then you take a sit in the big waiting area and wait for your number to be called. I was there in the middle of the day in peak times and waited around 15 minutes which I deem acceptable for a busy government office like that.
Once I was at the front of the queue, the man serving me was nice and knowledgeable about his subject. He was able to answer all of my questions and made me feel confident in his responses. There was even a man next to me who needed his registration slip which he said was in the car and the lady serving told him she would wait while he ducked out and got it so he wouldn’t lose his place in line. Now that is service!
