I wouldn’t have found this place had it not been for a friend who bookmarked it. I admit, I’m a bookmark stalker. But hey, how else would I find little nuggets like this! I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect walking in. but rest assured, I’ll definitely be coming back. Located just a few steps away from Layup, Art Starter is definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a new place to brunch. There’s plenty of parking along Brisbane Street, at a very affordable hourly rate too! We went on a Saturday around noon, and aside from a kindly older lady sitting outside, we were the only people there. But within an hour or so, the place was buzzing with every table full! While I wouldn’t say this place is suitable for larger groups, it’s definitely perfect for a few friends to catchup. It’s located right in front of(and is part of) an art gallery so the walls are decorated with art pieces, which if you like, you can purchase. The staff were super friendly and hospitable. It’s table waiter service here, so you needn’t worry about getting up to go to the counter until you’re ready to settle the bill. We ordered soy matcha lattes to start followed by the bruschetta and the smashed avocado. Since I was feeling particularly peckish, I added eggs and bacon to my smashed avocado, a decision I did not regret. Our order was brought out to us in minimal time, the matcha lattes were perfect, and the food serving sizes were generous. For those who are on Rewardle, you can collect and redeem points here. I absolutely loved this place, and is most definitely worthy of the 5-star review I’m giving it.

Reminds me of the quaint little cafes in Daylesford, Victoria. Polite service, locally sourced foodstuffs and a warm feel. I’m not one for surprises, but when the suprise is a salad garnish of spinach, chickpea and red cabbage dressed in tasty vinaigrette with my order of eggs — I’m on board. A pleasant place to spend quiet morning.

Decided to give this place a go instead of the Dizzy Witch. It was a lovely café with nice staff. The waiter was chatty but not over bearing. I had the veggie galette & a side of the salad which was quinoa & white beans which had a beautiful dressing. The coffee was lovely too & yes I got a large mug, can’t be doing these small little egg cups they consider the small cup in most cafes! The wall art is by upcoming artists & for sale which adds that little extra to the place.

A walked in this place by chance. great little café with good food and coffee. Love the fact it is linked to the art gallery, I wouldnt have even ventured in to the gallery without this place, and spent a long time musing over art having a very pleasant time. nice concept, loved in the art in the café too. Will pop back next time I am in Perth

Located at the front of the Harvison Gallery, Art Starter is a coffee and more small café. On offer is fresh made cakes and slices, breakfast options: home-made granola, buttery croissants or fresh fruit as well as lunch options on display in the cabinet — sandwiches, daily salads, pastries and more. I enjoyed the bacon and egg brioche roll($ 8.50) with tomato relish and a strongly brewed cappuccino outside in the sunshine. My pooch was happy with the outdoor seating and water bowl. Unfortunately the gallery was not open when I arrived, but I hear it is definitely worth a squizz. Open seven days and parking available.
