It is my favorite go-to place when hosting a dinner party, birthday or in case I run out of time/energy to make dessert . My favourite will be the Buttercream cake, topped with choco profiteroles and choco ganache! Their cakes do have that distinct French twist and are deee-licious, sweet but not too sweet! I have received nothing but compliment after compliment regarding how gorgeous the cakes look and taste. All I can say is, hmm! Their melt-in-the-mouth macarons are also worth mentioning.(watch out Nic & Rocco!) Tip: If you are craving/looking for something specific, be sure to call them to make an order!

Isn’t it weird how one chain can have two such different locations? I am NOT a fan of French Twist Chermside, yet I am quite fond of French Twist James St! Maybe it’s the more relaxed vibe of James St markets, or the staff are friendlier, I’m unsure. Maybe it’s also because French Twist Chermside is mostly café, whereas French Twist James St is a patissiere. Regardless, I got a very decent baguette from there the other day, and my friends bought up from the great range of pre made sandwiches which got thumbs up all around. The pastry’s looked like shiny gems, and I was very tempted by the idea of a take home quiche at $ 19. They would comfortably serve 3 — 4 with a salad and looked as far away from a chain store quiche as you could get. If you were sneaky and a terrible cook you could totally pass it off as home made if you were cooking for a judgemental mother in law.

I admit the French Twist in chermside has made me avoid this chain like the plague. However this James St Market store charmed me with its rustic looking breads, friendly staff and good looks straight out of a parisian boulangerie. The counters are gleaming and the shelves are heaving with delicious smelling baked treats. I spend a long time dithering and finally walk out with a crusty, crackly french stick(worthy of comparisons to its european cousins) and a slim package of light and delectable pistache macaroons. As the photos can attest the range of goodies on offer is mouthwateringly vast, I recommend you come in with an open mind(and wallet) and let your taste buds run wild.

Leave your good intentions at the door of this French style bakery serving everything from Portuguese citron tart to brioche and macaroons. As tempting as their whole baked cakes look on display, I tend to go for an eclectic mix for my dinner parties so everyone can get a sample. Citron tartlets is a treat as are the lavender macaroons, pain au chocolat and raspberry almond tartlets. French Twist also has the best sour dough I’ve ever tasted outside of France. The crust is crunchy and the rye had a distinct tangy sour flavour. They were all out of the sourdough when I went last Saturday at 2pm so I settled for a ciabatta loaf — which is also fantastic and great for bruschetta.
