Note that this is called Power Living Myaree. I came here using their great introductory offer for unlimited yoga for $ 39 for 30 days. They have a lot of classes available at convenient times throughout the week. A large yoga studio with a nice little section of shopping in the front and decent shower facilities. Aside from one instructor(Brenda who teaches Tuesday mornings — in my opinion, she was critical, not constructive, and she picks on people), all other instructors are great. The Saturday morning Vinyasa flow class gets pretty crowded so get in early if you don’t want to be squished up against someone else!

A perfect way to unwind and mix up a work out. I’ve been a keen yogi girl for a long time now, and after hearing good things about Bikram from the girls at work I decided to tag along to a class at the Myaree studio. I was a little nervous at first — yoga is already challenging without practicing in a heated room! Unlike the fast-paced Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga I’m used to, Bikram was less about the ‘flow’, with a stronger focus on achieving and maintaining individual positions. In a room heated to 40 degrees it was definitely a challenge and a calorie burner! Having said this, it has always left me feeling amazing, not exhausted. The studio itself is lovely. The lobby smells like coconut and the atmosphere is extremely chill — a perfect contrast to that all too familiar go-hard-or-go-home gym environment. For those who are thinking of beginning I would plan to drink water throughout the day ahead of Bikram, as you sweat A LOT. My towel is always soaking by the end of the 90 minute class. And dress very lightly — for obvious reasons. Definitely worth a try for all levels of fitness and expertise. Make the most of the $ 10 for 20 days unlimited yoga offer, as the price soars steeply afterward.

Bikram yoga is hot and after asmpling the north studio(*158 Vincent) I found out through the owners(Jen and Adam) that they also had an additional studio on the south side. I’m a fan of variety and thought I’d spice up my life with a change of scene and see what their other studio had to offer. Initially setting up in a heritage listed church on the North side, Adam and Jen then set up a studio in the south to cater to the growing demand of bikram hot spots. The south studio doesn’t have that charm that the north studio has, but it is modern and has a «new age» feel to it.(and now early morning classes– which is a HUGE advantage for those of us who embrace the day at sunrise) The insense and candles are consisitent, as is the gong that is sounded as a 5 minute«prepare to meditate» cue. The room is large but the space fills up quickly and with 40 degree temperatures it’s essential to bring along a lot of water, at times I thought swimmers may be appropriate also due to the amount of liquid pouring out of the participants. If Bikram yoga is up your alley, to try or live by, check out the website(and North studio reviews) and get your Bikram on!
