It’s funny, because community authorities used to make a big deal about ‘The Mezz’ that opened up in Mt Hawthorn, a shopping complex where locals consumer needs would be broadly covered, from fresh produce to news and entertainment. Sure they have a butcher, a bakery, a newsagent and a DVD/Blu-ray store but that’s all the boring stuff inside the Mezz. The real action happens out the back, adjacent to the car park. Here you’ll find some great stores such as this. Code Bloom, as its name might suggest, specialises in floristry but its not your average flower shop. Here you’ll find just about any accessory or homeware relative to flowers and gift-giving: vases, boxes, pots, balloons, greeting cards, even jewellery and chocolates. Again, not just your average florist, but a fabulous one-stop gift shop.

When I saw Code Bloom for the first time I thought it looked like a cute little gift store and had not idea it was also a florist until I walked in and smelt the divine scent of hundreds of stunning flowers. Needless to say I was in awe and wanted to buy every single flower to get my house to smell so wonderful. After this over excitement I had the time to look around and see the other products they stock like gorgeous delicate jewellery, little leather goods, delicious gourmet chocolates, the cutest little cards which also have a packet of seeds to grow your own flowers and once again I was marvelled by the delicious scent of their vanilla glass candles. Code Bloom is really the ideal gift shop and florist with a wide selection of goods for every ones need; preparing bouquets for weddings and corporate functions, creating gourmet hampers with divine produce and of course housing beautiful gifts.

Once upon a time if a friend was having a bad day or had some good news you would send flowers. Men would send flowers to their girlfriends, there didn’t even have to be a reason. Nowdays we send pokes through Facebook. Somehow it is not quite the same. Go old school. Send someone some flowers. You will be amazed at the response you will get. Having a bad day yourself, grab a bunch to brighten up your home or office. Now, where to get flowers. Try Code Bloom in Mt Hawthorn. This place is a cross between florist and gift shop. They have small gifts, flowers and balloons for every occasion possible.

Wake up and smell the roses. Is there any better way to decorate your home or to brighten up a dingy flat than to place beautiful, colourful flowers sporadically across the room. My head turned the first time I walked past this bright shop and although I have no need for flowers, I felt the need to walk in. If I was ever to get married I would love my flowers to be as pretty as the onces they display in this shop.

I am a staunch believer in there only being two types of people in the world; one’s that are born«young» and remain mentally youthful for their whole lives, and us sad folk who are born«old» and live in purgatory during our youth until our physical and mental age meets somewhere in mid-life. Well, I am of the second kind. I am a very young looking old person, and I looooooveeeee flowers. Growing them, buying them for others, smelling them, saving them in weathered notebooks, I love flowers period. So it’s no surprise I was in floral heaven when I walked past Code Bloom located at the Mezz in Mount Hawthorn. Actually and more accurately, I was drawn in by the wonderful smell emitting from the store and a very quirky sign inviting walkers-by to come in and«smell the roses». Reasonably priced and very well stocked, this place has lots of friendly staff who’s passion is probably visible from the moon. I didn’t buy anything(which is something I am deeply ashamed of because one doesn’t need an excuse to buy flowers), but I will fix this and go back after the Christmas mania has eased. And I will buy myself a nice boutique, or hint at other’s to do it for me.
