Sorry to say that Sushi Hotaru has dropped the ball. Many menu items have been scrapped off, leaving not much variety. Serving size are notably smaller and just doesn’t hit the mark anymore. Sushi Hotaru is still good value but the wait time is still long, and I am not sure if I will be back

This place is the definition of hard to find, but well worth the trouble. When I got there I was seated straight away, but I was by my self and there were groups outside waiting for a table. So I recommend getting in early if you don’t like waiting. There was a great variety and the food was really tasty. There are touch screens the you can use to order specific dishes which was good. Overall I’d definitely go there again.

One of few sushi train places in Melbourne. Food taste nice, variety of selection and well priced. Being able to order dishes on the iPad is very cool. Majority of the staff seems friendly but there are some who aren’t as welcoming :(

Here begins the hunt for quite literally, the most hidden sushi destination in Melbourne. I say that because Sushi Hotaru is quite literally a destination, albeit a hard to find and very busy one. Hotaru has great qaulity everything, ordered via a little interactive touch screen at your seats. Fast efficient service, it’s a really cool experience ordering a bunch of items and then waiting for them to come out not knowing which is to arrive next. Cheap eating destination and a good one. Heaps of stuff on the menu to choose from. It’s above and a little bit removed from Shandong mama.

For some odd reason, it took me FOREVER to find this place. The address on this site is WRONG!!! Correct address: Shop 118, 200 Bourke St, Melbourne, VIC3000 Take the escalators up and you’ll find it after walking a bit through the pathway. All plates are $ 3.00 unless otherwise noted. It’s pretty good sushi. Very standard and lots of variety. The cool part is you can order using their ipad. Yes, you even have to order your water through there. I sat waiting for the waitress to ask if I wanted anything to drink and after messing with the ipad realized I order everything through there. What I recommend that isn’t on the train is the agedashi tofu and soft shell crab. So yummy! I wish I ordered another, but I was so stuffed.

Hotaru is easily my favourite sushi place in Melbourne. Depending on when you visit, it can sometimes take up to 45 minutes to get seated. The sushi is delicious, and the ability to make custom orders and split bills through their iPad ordering system makes the experience even better. If you don’t want to wait for a seat, go on a school night, or if you go on a Friday, get there early. The other option is to go on your own, which is totally understandable. Go on, be that loner scoffing down chicken karaage, with a pile of 20 plates to themselves. It’s totally worth it.

Great value sushi train sushi and sashimi at $ 3 and $ 7.80 per plate respectively. There are additional a la carte items as well. The fish is fresh and the service is with a smile!
