My first night in Melbourne I fell in love with walking around the CBD, but when it’s cold it was getting a little unbearable to stay outdoors so I asked my local cousins that I need a hot chocolate fix to warm me up and they took me here, Max Brenner, never heard of this place but was eager to learn it’s a chocolatier, so this should interesting, and it was! From ice cream to hot drinks, then a fondue and waffles, this place is such a cute shop. Since we went with a few folks we ordered something different so that each of us can have a taste of other items on the menu. Since I’m a white chocolate fan I ordered a hot white chocolate but their regular hot chocolate was better in my opinion. They also came with little gummy bears on each drink, a charming touch. But the one thing that I loved instantly were the hug mugs! Since we went here on a chilly night, the hug mug kept me warm, I think it’s so adorable I bought one to take back with me to Texas. This location is open later than most in Melbourne Central so it’s definitely a cute place to hangout with friends and family over some dessert. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. This place can do better in the cleanliness department, we had to switch a few tables because they weren’t clean.

During my visit in Melbourne, this was definitely one of the most delicious stops I had ever been to:)) I especially loved their hot chocolate, which they served in their special hug-mugs!!! They are adorable and the hot chocolate is heavenly! In addition to the hot chocolate, I also tried their strawberry fondue and that was also fantastic! It is one of the best memories I had during my time in Melbourne, which I shared with my best friend in the whole wide world! She was the one, who took me there and I have been praying for a Max Brenner’s to open in Turkey ever since:)

Got a late dessert made by the bald man, Max Brenner at his chocolate bar. Never heard of Max Brenner and surprised that I hadn’t but my fellow Aussie friend said I had to get the experience and she was a huge fan, being a great lover of anything chocolate. She recommended the Spectacular choc-fudge brownie sundae which consisted of double chocolate ice cream scoops, choc-nut fudge brownie chunks & caramelised pecans, served with crunchy waffle balls & a pot of pure melted chocolate. This was a chocolate overload but delicious. Definitely recommend sharing with at least one other person. The melted choc sauce was great over the sundae as it hardened under the ice cream. Enjoyed the crunchy texture with the creamy ice cream, chocolate and semi-hard brownie pieces. So good. Don’t order anything else with it though or it will be too much. Friend got the chocolate strawberry dip: dip fresh strawberries in pure melted chocolate. Sadly the strawberries were a bit bruised or not so good looking, being out of season but she tucked into the chocolate sauce– enjoying two, asking for an extra order. Can see why– it’s delicious. Picked up a mocha the next morning to go for the tram to Brunswick which was quite nice. Had a range of chocolate products: Suckao, hot chocolates, coffee & tea, Max I-Scream(a daring huge dessert extravaganza), Max’s pastry, choctails & icy shakes, milkshakes, chilled indulgence, sweet-icons(more chocolate overloaded sweets). Need to come back for the waffle experience and the chocolate fondue for two. Definitely recommend everyone to have a Max Brenner experience.

So this is supposed to be one of the best chocolate place in Melbourne ? I had some kind of chocolate muffin with chocolate sauce with it, it was terribly dry. The hot chocolate I ordered, was absolutely tasteless, I had better hot chocolate from some vending machines Tourist trap much?

We are currently in Melbourne for PAX, my first time in Melbourne, my husbands 2nd time(he visited as a child), and I must say that this has been the worst experience over our 3 day stay so far. First of all it took us an hour to locate the place as coming from Brisbane we had no idea where to go & discovered that there are 2 La Trobe Streets that confuses Google Maps to no end. We tried calling to ask for directions but it appears they dont like to answer their phone. Upon arrival we found the service to be painfully slow and we only had 4 or 5 people in front of us. Upon eventually getting served & finding a table, the staff did not clear our table from the previous customers until they brought our order over. We got a stone cold doughy soufflé and they took forever to bring me my drink(my husbands hot choc was lukewarm). We got fed up with this & just as my husband was going to ask for a refund my lukewarm hot choc arrived. It was incredibly difficult to get any staff members attention in order to complain so we left. Worst Max Brenner’s I have EVER been to. Will not return.

Horrible coffee, water glass had chip of glass in it. Beware.

If you love chocolate you must go to Max Brenner. Apart from a great range of chocolates to take home, this is also a good café(maybe not for your health or waistline, but we’ll ignore that for now). Personally, I can’t go near here without stopping and having a mocha coffee — highly recommended!

Ok, Max Brenner is seriously the most decadent, indulgent and extravagant chocolatier in the city. Theobroma does great chocolate — but Max Brenner has made creating new and exciting chocolate dishes and treats his thing. Basically he is the Shakespeare of chocolate. I’m not generally a sweet tooth, but when I’m in the mood and want to over indulge Max is definitely the place to go. Located in bustling Menzies Alley in Melbourne Central, it’s secluded from the crowds but still amongst the action. The décor and café all just top off the pleasure and luxury. As for what you should try here, because if you’ve never been your head will surely spin from the range of delicious chocolate based treats, everything I’ve ever had is good. The dark chocolate mocha frappé has become my favoured drink(or choctail as it is so aptly named), and the«spectacular choc fudge brownie sundae» is an all out, over the top, death by chocolate masterpiece. Be warned though, it’s not for the faint hearted. Double choc scoops of ice-cream, served with melted chocolate, pecans, walnut brownie and waffle balls. There. Gives you a fairly good idea of the decadence that exists only at Max Brenner.
